Old Ludgrovian Events

Golf Day, The Berkshire 16th September 2018 Richard Barber (1955), Jeremy Cornwallis (1959), Charlie Farquhar (1977), Reg Hoare (1974), Chris Neame (1981), Henry Crofton (1992), Alex Andjel (1994), Mike Bishop (1994), Alex Cornwallis (2001), Will Hyslop (2009) and Gerald Barber.

Eleven intrepid Old Ludgrovians assembled at the Berkshire at midday for refreshments before play. The sun shone and the Blue Course was in immaculate condition. Three teams were selected to do battle in a Stableford competition. The winning team consisted of Richard Barber, Chris Neame and Reg Hoare returning with 80 points. The individual prize was won by Chris Neame, who collected an impressive total of 32 points. Overall it was an excellent event. In 2019 we plan to return to a late April date when I hope we can attract a larger field. I shall advertise the date early in the New Year on the school website. GWPB Please contact development@ludgroveschool.co.uk if you would like to play.

A fantastic afternoon of Sets Football at Burton Court despite the rain(!). The game was close! At 8-8 after sixty minutes of enthralling Sets football, "Nextgoal-wins" was announced and the Blues were the first to hit the target...win for the Blues. But as ever, Sets football was really the winner. Place2Be were extremely grateful for our donations and it was great to have their support on the sideline. They're a great charity and given their involvement with treating depression in School Children, it feels very appropriate to have them as our chosen-charity for this Old Ludgrovian event. Max Fraser (OL 1995) and Ed Corry Reid (OL 1995)

LUDGROVE SCHOOL FOUNDATION

2018 marks five years from the establishment of the Ludgrove School Foundation and we are immensely grateful to everyone who has contributed to its success. The Foundation continues to increase support for bursaries and we look forward the School’s next capital development on the horizon in 2019. Look out for more information in our next issue about the forthcoming building project. Ludgrove’s 125th year was made particularly special by the June Old Ludgrovian Day and the Anniversary Ball in December, not only in raising £140,000 to support bursaries and the development of the School, but also in demonstrating the warmth and strength of the Ludgrove community. There were far too many Old Ludgrovians, past parents, former staff and friends of the school for whom we have fallen out of touch. Please forward this Newsletter to OL friends and contemporaries and ask them to update their contact information at www.ludgrove.net/updatecontactdetails.

Old Ludgrovians in the US Ludgrove has a series of boys joining us from the US and many OLs have been in touch to say they are now based in America. With a growing base in North America, we would love to try to organise an event on the other side of the Atlantic. Furthermore, the Ludgrove School Foundation was accepted as a British School and Universities Foundation approved institution (www.bsuf.org) in June, creating a means of promoting our work in the US and providing a taxefficient option for our American donors. If you are now based in the US and are interested in a OL North American gathering, please update your contact details on our website at www.ludgrove.net/updatecontactdetails or contact the Development Office at development@ludgroveschool.co.uk.

Thank You The School and the Foundation are immensely grateful to every donor, whether they have made a one-off gift, donated a gift-in-kind, sponsored the Ball, pledged a bequest in their Will or make a regular monthly standing order donation. Every contribution of any size or means makes has an impact on our work. If you would like to know more about the Foundation’s charitable aims and contributions, please contact the Development Office at Ludgrove or visit the Foundation’s webpages on www.ludgrove.net to learn about the different ways you can support us.

Royal National Children’s SpringBoard Foundation

BOARDING SCHOOL BURSARIES Ludgrove is proud to be an accredited Royal SpringBoard school. Our partnership with the Royal National Children’s SpringBoard Foundation is critical to the School’s strategy to widen access to the transformative experience of a boarding education. Royal SpringBoard is the UK’s largest boarding school bursary charity, following the merger in 2017 of Royal National Children's Foundation and The SpringBoard Bursary Foundation. To learn more about its inspiring work, please visit their website - www.royalspringboard.org.uk.
