Bawburgh golf Club was started in 1979 by alan Barnard as a 9 hole Course, designed by himself and Bert Kelly (former professional golfer) The course was a par 33 and 2577 yards in length.
In 1991, Alan and wife Kate grew Bawburgh Golf Club further, developing into an 18 hole golf course, par 70. Shortly after, 1994 saw the addition of Glen Lodge Clubhouse. Over the years they both contributed to the growth of Golf in Norfolk. Alan provided Norfolk with the Barnard Trophy, an annual competition for senior golfers. Alan and Kate still took an interest in Bawburgh Golf Club right up to their final years, visiting for Lunch and helping out at the annual Barnard Charity Golf Day. Alan and Kate’s son Robert Barnard carries on their legacy as Managing Director and instructed the additions of the companies 9 hole course and driving range. Roberts Daughter Krissy (Business Manager) and colleague Jamie (Operations Manager) recently designed and constructed Glen Lodges new Wedding Venue, which opened in April 2019. Named the Barnard Suite in memory of Alan and Kate who both sadly passed away in 2018.
