About The Course

Beadlow Manor Golf Club boasts two full eighteen hole courses, the 6,618 yard Baron Manhattan, often simply referred to as The Baron, and the 6098-yards Baroness.

Both courses underwent some intensive treatment over the course of the summer 2014. These treatments focused heavily on the greens in order to improve both drainage and structure.

Each course poses a different challenge; with an abundance of water features, lakes and hazards all defined by the tree lined parkland setting.

In addition, the introduction of a new rough mower greatly improved the cutting regime of the courses, and transformed the layout of the rough and newly introduced semi-rough band.

The Baron Manhattan was designed in the early 1970s and consequently the course first opened in 1973. Since this time it has matured into an outstanding par 73. The Baroness is the sister course of The Baron and is a little shorter, but no less challenging, ranked as a 71 par. Together they present an excellent venue for golfers of all abilities.

Try not to get too distracted by the lush, well-manicured fairways with your shots from the tee, and be prepared to face some well-protected greens often with testing pin positions. And even if your score ends up a little higher than expected, you will walk off the course having enjoyed the peace and tranquillity offered by these unique courses.

Course Tour

If you have never played at Beadlow Manor before you are in for a treat. Make the most of your trip by learning about some of the pitfalls that lie in wait, and how to avoid them, by following our hole-by-hole tour. The Baron

Hole 2 – Par 5 – 479 Yards With a relatively narrow exit from the tee, it is crucial to hit the fairway from the off. But in tough wind conditions, particularly if the wind is against you, a wood is required from the tee. Great risk and reward hole with the green protected by a pond for any wayward second shots.

Hole 1- Par 4 – 283 Yards A straight forward tee shot, with either a long iron or fairway wood, is the best approach to begin your round on The Baron. The green is a small target, so accuracy is key; and with the putting surface quite small aim for the middle and be happy with two putts.

Hole 3 – Par 4 – 403 Yards On this par 4 long hitters beware. A straight tee shot is needed to beat the stream, and make for an easier approach to the green. But be careful, while the green is reachable in two, with a slight dogleg left, make sure your iron shot has enough to hold.

8

w w w. b e a d l o w m a n o r. c o . u k

Hole 4 – Par 5 – 477 Yards With a very long and narrow funnel out to the green, and a short water trap dangerously placed, club selection will vary greatly depending on the position of the pin. But whatever club you choose precision is vital.

Hole 7 – Par 4 – 399 Yards From the tee a medium-to-long iron to the corner of the sharp righthand dogleg is best. Don’t try and skip the pond; be sensible. This gives you the best angle for a second shot and a crack at the green.

Hole 5 – Par 3 – 211 Yards Don’t be fooled, this is a tough par 3, and it is wise to play longer than you think. So take plenty of club, as there is little danger long.

Hole 8 – Par 3 – 134 Yards The shortest hole on the front nine is a real gem of a par 3. However, this is also a technically tough hole over water, and demands precise shot selection throughout.

Hole 6 – Par 4 – 401 Yards Though only a par 4, this hole is technically the hardest hole on the course. Aiming along the left-hand side of the fairway will allow you to play with the slight dog-leg, and will leave you with a shorter approach to an elevated green.

CONTINUED

Hole 9 – Par 5 – 481 Yards Standing on the elevated tee you will be encouraged to open your shoulders. But beware; this is a tight driving hole which doglegs from right to left. A good long tee shot should give you a chance to go for the green in two.

Hole 11 – Par 4 – 379 Yards Take time to take in and lap up the stunning views from the tee. This is a relatively straight hole, so your opening shot needs to be well struck. Around the 200 yard marker is a great position, and you’ll have a much easier approach to the green from the most level part of the fairway.

Hole 10 – Par 4 – 410 Yards Bigger hitters can take their tee shot over the trees to the corner of a sharp left to right dog leg. Hugging the right of the fairway will leave you with the perfect angle for a shot to a partially hidden two tier green.

Hole 12 – Par 3 – 188 Yards This is a long par 3, where you are unable to see the bottom of the flag from the tee making distance control tough. The green is also protected by bunkers at the front so a longer club is wise.

10

w w w. b e a d l o w m a n o r. c o . u k

Hole 13 – Par 5 – 523 Yards Don’t be fooled by the length of this hole. Accuracy over power is crucial here. As long as you to hit the left-hand side of the fairway your approach will open up the hole and allow longer hitters to have a crack at reaching the green in two. Hole 14 – Par 4 – 419 Yards A blind tee shot over water needs to be hit down the left side of the fairway due to the dogleg. Once you have found the fairway you are left with a 2nd shot that plays downhill to a well-protected green.

Hole 15 – Par 5 – 504 Yards An uphill tee shot, where the big hitters have a chance to go for the green in two. If you lay up with your second you face the tricky prospect of getting your ball past the tree on the right, but not too far as the reservoir awaits for any slight hook. When approaching the green play wisely! With bunkers peppered around the front and back anything too long or too short will be punished. Hole 16 – Par 3 – 144 Yards From an elevated tee you will shoot to a small green with bunkers surrounding the front so distant control is vital if you are to secure a par or better.

Hole 17 – Par 4 – 404 Yards One of the toughest holes of the second nine with demanding driving conditions, with out of bounds left and a narrow fairway. Those good enough to find the fairway face a tough approach to a wide but shallow green.

Hole 18 – Par 4 – 337 Yards For your last tee shot of The Baron, be sure to aim down the left side of the fairway. This will open up the green for an easier approach to another elevated green, making this a tough finishing hole. Finish with a gross or nett par here and you will walk off the course happy.

The Baroness Hole 1- Par 4 – 289 Yards Ensuring you clear the stream, a straight and solid drive from the tee is the perfect way to begin your round on The Baroness. As you approach the green be cautious, the putting surface is quite small and protected by a series of bunkers, so aim for the middle and be happy with two putts. Hole 2 – Par 4 – 409 Yards A strong par 4 which plays uphill. A long drive down the left half of the fairway is required to leave a mid-iron to a well-protected green. Your distance control will need be spot on, as the shot is all uphill.

14

w w w. b e a d l o w m a n o r. c o . u k

Hole 3 – Par 3 – 168 Yards The first par 3 of the Baroness provides a narrow undulating green. Clubbing is vital when the pin is at the back of the green as anything short will end up rolling back the front of the green. Hole 4 – Par 5 – 481 Yards This par 5 plays slightly uphill but with a good, long drive down the left half of the fairway you will leave the chance of reaching the green with a fairway wood.

Hole 5 – Par 4 – 326 Yards Hole five provides a chance for the longer hitters to start with a long sweeping drive, avoiding the large trees on the left side of the fairway. For the shorter hitters a fairway wood to find the fairways will leave a short iron for your second shot and the chance to set up a birdie putt. Hole 6 – Par 4 – 289 Yards A short par 4 with a large pond short of the green, allows the brave a chance to drive the green but beware, anything short and a big score awaits! Alternatively a lay-up with a mid-iron will leave another short iron to a green which slopes dramatically from back to front.

Hole 7 – Par 4 – 449 Yards As this hole is a long par 4 it can be played in a number of ways. The longer hitters can drive the ball straight over the pond on the left side of the fairway. Shorter hitters can alternatively hit an accurate drive down the right side of the fairway to avoid the hazard. Another option is to lay up short of the water leaving a long iron into the green. Hole 8 – Par 4 – 352 Yards A drive down the left side is required to avoid the tree on the right. This also opens up the green for you to attack the pin, but anything short will find the greenside bunkers.

Hole 9 – Par 4 – 409 Yards A slight left-to-right dogleg so a well-judged drive to the corner is required to leave a mid-to-long iron over the ditch to an elevated green. Hole 10 – Par 4 – 328 Yards Great course management is required on this hole as danger lurks off the tee! With water left, and running through the fairway 200 yards from the tee, a well-judged tee shot is required. Getting on the green is just as tough, as it is very narrow and long, and therefore difficult to get the ball close when the pin is located at the back of the green.

16

w w w. b e a d l o w m a n o r. c o . u k

Hole 11 – Par 5 – 489 Yards Longer hitters relish this hole, as a straight drive leaving your ball just short of the larger stream is best off the tee. Be wary, though, the slight left-hand dogleg can mean your approach to the green is a little tricky. Hole 12 – Par 4 – 402 Yards The toughest hole on the course. With a left to right dogleg the ideal tee shot is a slight fade, but over cook it as the out of bounds down the right awaits! Find the fairway and you are left with a long second shot to a well-guarded green.

Hole 13 – Par 3 – 158 Yards From the tee the green looks much shallower than it really is. Keep in mind you have more room on the right hand side, as the green slopes heavily from back to front so anything short when the pin is at the back of the green will leave a long, slow putt. Hole 14 – Par 5 – 535 Yards Great risk and reward abounds on the longest hole on the course. A good long drive over the ditch will leave a tantalising choice of a layup with a mid-iron or the chance to drive the green with a fairway wood; but with the pond on the right cutting into the fairway, accuracy is paramount.

Hole 15 – Par 3 – 149 Yards The penultimate par 3 is played over water to another narrow, long green protected at the front with two large bunkers, so over clubbing is the best option. Hole 16 – Par 4 – 399 Yards The ideal tee shot is struck down the left side of the fairway. This ensures you don’t block yourself out for your approach shot. A ditch runs through the fairway and a bunker is positioned just short of the green, giving the impression you need to play shorter than you think.

Hole 17 – Par 4 – 316 Yards Your perfect tee shot will be a soft draw to a narrow fairway which has a slender right-to-left dogleg. But don’t overcook it as out of bounds invites anything stuck too far down the left side. Once on the fairway you face a slightly blind approach as you won’t see the bottom of the flag, so club selection is vital.

Hole 18 – Par 3 – 150 Yards The tranquil final hole plays towards the clubhouse and over water. But don’t relax just yet! You need a solid drive and an accurate mid-iron to reach the slightly elevated green. Anything which leaks right or is short will find sand, leaving a tough up and down to finish your round.

Having recently undergone a full refurbishment the clubhouse provides a comfortable space to unwind before or after your round, to have a few at the bar, or a more substantial meal in the restaurant. And with two large television screens and a spacious lounge area, the Beadlow Manor clubhouse has something for everyone.

In the clubhouse restaurant our chefs serve a hot breakfast, snacks and sandwiches, along with some beautiful dishes every weekday, using fresh local produce in a selection of wholesome, home cooked dishes. The menu changes daily according to the season, but every Sunday we offer a traditional roast lunch between 1pm and 5pm. Due to the popularity of the restaurant at lunchtime we advise booking well in advance, especially on Sundays.

We are fully licensed with a selection of draught and speciality bottled beers, wines, and spirits, alongside an extensive range of soft drinks. Here at Beadlow Manor customer service is paramount to everything we do, and we pride ourselves on ensuring our accommodating staff make your visit to Beadlow Manor a memorable one.
