On 18th February 2008 the TranterRichards’ partnership took Calderfields over and since this date the venue has gone from strength to strength. The new owner’s initial tasks were to immediately improve the golf course and offer better facilities than its customers had ever experienced before.
Soon after the purchase, the club was relaunched as “Calderfields Golf & Country Club” new, larger functions rooms were constructed, a restaurant was established, modern and spacious changing facilities were added as well as 20 log cabins, making Calderfields a popular hotel to complement its existing services. In January 2017 a spade was put to ground and the first sod turned in a bid to build a Golfer’s Conditioning Centre,

allowing players of all abilities to hone their skills and improve their health as well as their game. Today, Calderfields Hotel, Golf & Country Club is arguably the fastest growing golf & Country Club in the Midland region. Hosting in excess of 400 diners per week, a popular wedding venue, striking parkland golf course, idyllic fishing lake, golfers conditioning centre and the perfect site for multiple functions, Calderfields really is “More than just a golf club!”

Hole 1 ‘Do or Die’ - Par 4 - 363 Yards It may not seem long, but this is one of the toughest opening holes in golf. With your shoulders still cold, a pond just 130 yards from the tee. Out of the bounds all the way down the left and plenty of trees make for a testing first shot. Get a straight drive away and the green opens up nicely for you giving you the perfect opportunity to make par or better!

Hole 2 ‘Braveheart’ - Par 5 - 513 Yards Getting a good tee shot away here is the key, too far left and you dice with the out of bounds and are blocked from the green. Too far right and you will be meeting players down the 5th tee! Watch out for the cheeky little dog-leg in the final third of the fairway, you don’t want to be pitching over the greenside bunkers, but you also don’t want to be walking back to the tee to play that provisional. A steady five here will keep your card going.
Hole 3 ‘Stables’ - Par 4 - 385 Yards This hole gets its name exactly from what lies over the out of bounds down the left. Your line off the tree must be accurate, use the single oak tree as guidance and you stand the chance of hitting the green in regulation. Don’t be fooled by what appears to be a flat green, an off-line pitch shot will see you down on the left and in trouble.

Hole 4 ‘The poplars ‘ - Par 4 - 389 Yards The 4th hole gives you your first opportunity to open the shoulders up, no out of bounds in sight, but you don’t want to dice with the large popular trees that will catch a stray tee shot. A well hit drive will only lead to a mid iron into the green which is guarded with bunkers left and right. Position is vital on the green as too far left will give you a very tricky putt with large contours to deal with.
Hole 5 ‘Hedges’ - Par 4 - 399 Yards From the back tees this par four has become a real test. Newly added fairway bunkers really narrow this fairway down and the new addition on the approach closes the mouth of the green to any running balls. A par here is a good result and sets you up nicely for the remainder of the front nine.
Hole 6 ‘Nice and Easy’ - Par 4 - 314 Yards A gentle draw is required from the sixth tee, a large oak tree down the left only gives you the option to go down the right. The big hitter will almost reach this green in the summer, but be aware of the island bunker situated in the centre of the fairway. This bunker lies in wait for those who don’t quite make the distance. Plenty of bunkers make this a hard green to pitch to, and the two-tiered green makes a par putt a rare opportunity.

Hole 7 ‘Meeting Point’ - Par 5 - 505 Yards A good position off the tee here, will make for an easier approach. Stay clear of the right-hand side of this fairway and you will open up the green for your third shot. Be careful not to play with the fairway bunkers as that will halt your chance of hitting this green in regulation. A wellguarded long green allows you to fire in a short iron, and a fairly flat putting surface gives you an opportunity to pinch a shot back.

Hole 8 ‘Lakeside’ - Par 4 - 376 Yards Our signature hole! A narrow and blind tee shot takes some nerve to overcome, however, the brave will be rewarded with an easier second shot to a waterguarded green, reminiscent of the 17th at Sawgrass. A true and fair putting surface awaits though who have the nerve to take it on. A par or better here and you have done extremely well.
Hole 9 ‘Clubhouse View’ - Par 3 - 199 Yards The first par three on the course, and one of the longest par three’s in the County. This hole allows you to attack the green with a long iron or small wood. Players should not be scared to open their shoulders here, but beware too much aggression and you will be blocked out by the trees running parallel to this hole. Miss this green and face a tricky downhill chip from the surrounding mounds.

Hole 10 ‘Acres Rest’ - Par 4 - Par 4 - 270 Yards Arguably the most daunting tee shot on this course. Into wind with the fountain blowing water high above your head this hole is more difficult than it looks. Not only a large lake, but narrow fairway and large island bunker all make this relatively short hole very challenging. A par here is a good start to the back nine.
Hole 11 ‘Bounders’ - Par 4 - 353 Yards A strong draw will set you up nicely to hit this green in two. This is a ‘risk and reward’ hole, take the Tiger line over the left-hand trees and go for it, or shape the ball round and put yourself in a safe position. Overrun the fairway and you will be in trouble, an open-fronted green with two tiers gives an ideal opportunity to make par or better.
Hole 12 ‘Old Oak’ - Par 3 - 180 Yards A gentle draw is required from the sixth tee, a large oak tree down the left only gives you the option to go down the right. Hole 13 ‘Airport Approach’ - Par 4 - 417 Yards One of the longest par fours on the course, this hole requires a long and accurate tee shot. The White House in the distance is the perfect line to bring you down into position A on the fairway. A straight and lengthy second shot is also required to get anywhere near hitting the green in regulation. Your third shot must be thought about, as overshooting the green will see you knee deep in heath land. A large and forgiving green provides a welcomed finish to a somewhat challenging hole.

Hole 14 ‘Canal Turn’ - Par 5 - 506 Yards The 14th tee is the furthest part of the course from the clubhouse, it’s the homeward straight from here in. A slight cut is required from this tee in order to miss the first oak tree on the right. But at the same time, you do not want to find yourself in front of the left-hand oak as it is game over from here! From these trees the fairway drops away from the player making a seemingly long hole reasonably short.
Hole 15 ‘Arbereeton Way’ - Par 4 - 396 Yards The key to this hole is keeping your tee shot on the higher side of a sloping fairway. Any sight of a draw and you will flirt with some very tricky rough on the lower side of this hole. A long approach makes for an ideal opportunity to play a ‘bump and run’, judge this right and you could be in position A, get this wrong and who knows where your ball will end up!

Hole 16 ‘Captain’s Pool’ - Par 5 - 507 Yards There is no room for error on this hole, too far left and you’ll be out of bounds, too far right and you’ll be calling ‘fore’ and dicing with the Captain’s Pool! Your second shot also needs careful consideration if you are to leave yourself in a good position to attack a wellguarded green. A brook at the front alongside two greenside bunkers awaits any errant shots. A par or better here, is welcome on anyone’s card.
Hole 17 ‘Short Hop’ - Par 3 - 125 Yards By far the shortest par three on the course, this newly-constructed green is well protected by a front bunker, the green itself has a cleverly concealed ridge at the rear making putting a real challenge. A perfect hole for closest to pin, but a hole not to be disrespected!
Hole 18 ‘Homeward Bound’ - Par 4 - 312 Yards This driveable par four has several hidden demons! It has out of bounds on the left, and a heavily wooded area on the right. The brave may want to take the direct line over the trees, where the less confident will want to use the fairway to guide themselves in. A good tee shot will see nothing more than a mid-iron to reach the two-tiered green. Be careful leave yourself above the pin and face a daunting test down to the hole.

Custom Fitting
Here at Calderfields Golf Club, we have qualified PGA professionals on hand to custom fit you and your club at all times, the process will start with a discussion about you, handicap, injuries, aspirations and what you are looking for in a golf club/set. At this stage we encourage you to bring along your current club/set, this way we can show you the benefits a custom fit session will achieve. Our Professional will take a static fit, measuring your height and arm length to get a rough guide on club length. You will then be measured for the correct lie angle to make sure the club is striking the ground from the middle of the sole. We then use our state-of-the-art launch

monitor which records numerous aspects of the ball’s flight to accurately choose the correct shaft and club head for your swing and needs. Who should be custom fit? We believe all golfers can benefit from being custom fit, from beginner to pro; a custom fit set will give you the best chance of scoring low. Many higher handicap golfers feel they are not good enough to be custom fit and they are not consistent enough. However, this could not be further from the truth and you could argue it is actually more important for them. A higher handicap may not be consistent at hitting the ball
straight but will have many consistencies in the swing. We specialise in all types of club repair and alteration here at Calderfields Golf Club and carry the latest grips in stock, all of which are available in different sizes. All repairs and alterations are carried out in a swift and professional manner. Our very own ‘while you wait’ gripping service offers professional, unbiased advice on the grip most likely to suit YOU, with the option to try the grip on one of your clubs and then it fitted on all before you leave.

Offering the very best golf instruction available in the Midlands our Golf Academy instructors are not only expert golf coaches, they are experienced and successful professional golfers. Our instructors offer golf lessons to players of all ages and abilities. Whether you are a beginner, just want to brush up on your golfing skills or master a certain technique and need some intensive golf tuition our instructors would love to lend a hand! Golf Conditioning Facilities
We do not believe in one way to swing a club, rather in an infinite number of swing styles. But, we do believe there is one efficient way for every player to swing and it is based on what the player can physically do. Golfers will benefit the most from a healthy and efficient body as physical fitness is a key to playing great golf. The most efficient swing is not the same for every player, because efficiency is unique to their body. To achieve an efficient swing, a golfer must first be screened. This screen involves an
assessment of swing mechanics and biomechanics, physical fitness, movement quality, current health and a client history. The results are used to create a plan unique for that golfer. The plan may include fitness training, physical therapy and treatment, coaching of swing mechanics and biomechanics, nutrition, acupuncture, mental strategy or all of the above. A golfer will see the greatest improvement by surrounding themselves with a team of experts. Similarly, any professional in the golf industry will see their clients

benefit most by themselves being part of a network or team of professionals. The Calderfields Suite The indoor marquee creates the dream atmosphere for Weddings, events and celebrations. With Ivory linen flowing from the ceiling and mood lighting throughout, there are few venues in the area that can compete. The Golfers Spike Bar The comfy seats in the TV room and also the conservatory provide a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere after a game of golf or on a quiet evening. Freeview TV is televised and we welcome all to attend providing you respect the venues behaviour standards. The conservatory has a log burner that is lit early morning through the winter creating a cosy and warm environment through the winter months.
Locker Rooms Our recently refurbished locker room is popular for all members who have a private storage area throughout the year for a small fee. We also provide a visitor’s locker room with showers to clean up in after 18 holes golf.

Breakfast The most important meal of the day is available from 8.00am until 10.00am at Calderfields. If you have chosen to stay in one of our cabins and paid for Bed and Breakfast or are on a golf break then you will have Tea, Coffee, cereals, fruit, juices and toast available before you select a meal from our breakfast menu. If you have not opted for the B&B package then this is also available for you for ÂŁ10.
The breakfast menu is also available to any guests wishing to simply order from that as opposed to the ÂŁ10 package. Lunch Calderfields offer lunch and early dining from 11.00am until 17.00pm following breakfast (that is served from 8AM). There is a wide variety available from Jacket Potatoes and Omelettes to Homemade Lasagne and Thai Chicken Curry.

Dinner Calderfields has had a restaurant onsite for the past ten years but has recently relaunched as the Lakeview restaurant. The new restaurant takes pride on its service and the fresh food we serve. Open from 5pm to 9pm, Monday to Saturday, we have a variety of promotional deals and packages available for all our guests. We are not just a restaurant, we offer popular afternoon teas and cater for

Civil Ceremonies Civil marriage ceremonies can be performed in our licensed room at Calderfields. Your whole day can be set within the grounds so you and your guests don’t need to worry about travelling from the church or registry office to the reception. We can host ceremonies for up to 140 people, while the rest of your guests can join you for your evening celebrations in our bespoke function room that caters for up to 250 people.

We extend a warm welcome to visitors, with both our green fees and society packages representing fantastic value for money.
You will find the course provides an interesting challenge for golfers of all abilities, with stunning views adding to the elegance of the course.
Visitors are welcome to play the course during the week or at the weekend, and are invited to use the club’s other outstanding facilities during their visit. You do not have to be a golfer to be able to spend an enjoyable time with us.
The well-stocked Pro Shop will allow you to stock up on consumables and to browse the wide range of golf equipment and clothing, while a full range of catering facilities is also available in the clubhouse, where you can relax with companions and enjoy the view overlooking the course.
Although handicap certificates are not mandatory, we do prefer golfers to be of a sufficient standard for them to be able to enjoy their round and for them not to inconvenience other players when out on the course. Fishing Lake
Our idyllic fishing lake sits at the heart of our parkland golf course. Not only does the lake lend itself to our signature hole, the par 4, 8th, it also hosts 10 fishing pegs finished with bark frames and woodchip Plato’s.

The lake is fresh water fed and is stocked with an abundance of fish from 20 lbs carp to small F1 type sprats so whilst you sit back and soak up the sunshine, you really never know what you’re going to catch. Fishing is permitted from Dawn to Dusk only on a day ticket basis. Annual memberships are available upon application.
