History
F
ormerly known as Windwhistle Golf Course, visitors could experience the 9 hole golf course carefully designed in 1932 by J.H. Taylor - 5 times open champion.

In 1955, Leonard Fisher took the club over and acquired more land to develop a challenging 18 hole course. A dedicated and professional greenkeeper team keep it under regular maintenance and work hard to ensure the green is always beautifully trimmed with the grass kept to fine lengths in order to create the fairways and greens on each hole as well as managing plants and trees around the course.
Upon purchasing the Club in 2014, Jackie, Steve and their Greenkeeping team have worked tirelessly to improve the standards of the course, to ensure the very best facilities are offered to members and guests throughout the year. They renamed it Cricket St Thomas Golf Club and have developed the venue to offer one of the areas’ finest sport and hospitality venues where visitors can have a superb days play in a warm, welcoming, family friendly environment.

KEY HOLES
T
he 9th is a classic drophole with wide, sweeping views – make sure you look around whilst you play!
The 15th takes you to one of the highest points of the golf course with stunning countrywide views between Dorset, Devon and Somerset. The 17th and 18th are generally acknowledged to give you a nice easy finish with driveable par 4’s.
The 1st gets you off to a challenging start– a tough par 5 dogleg and the 10th is a gruelling uphill hole which is the longest par 4 on the course - not for the faint hearted but you will feel that you have earned your place at the 19th hole!

eneral consensus is that the best holes are the 9th - a classic drop hole with wide, sweeping views of this stunning countryside and the 15th which sits at one of the highest points of the golf course where there are views of Dorset, Devon and Somerset to be had for the taking.

The most challenging is the 1st - a tough par 5 dogleg and the 10th which is a gruelling uphill - the longest on the course! The easiest come at the end - 17 and 18 which offer a nice easy finish with driveable par 4’s. Then, of course you are welcome at the 19th hole!
Hole 2. 203yds par 3 s.i.9 A tough par 3 into the prevailing wind. Its favourable to miss the green left, as trees at the rear and a steep bank on the right make for a much harder up and down. A par is a great score.
Hole 1. 546yds par 5 s.i.5 A sharp dogleg right invites you to cut the corner of this reachable par 5, leaving a medium iron into the green. A birdie is possible for the brave, but for those who wish to play it safe, an easy par is on the cards to open your round.
Hole 3. 359yds par 4 s.i.1 One of the toughest holes on the course, an iron onto a sloping left to right fairway leaves you the best chance of hitting a raking long iron into the green. A miss short and right is no bad thing for a simple up and down. Tuck a par in your pocket and move on!
Hole 4. 500yds par 5 s.i.11 Another great birdie opportunity on this straightaway par 5. A solid drive will put you in range of a receptive green, wield the wand well and an eagle may be on the cards! Hole 5. 292yds par 4 s.i.17 Risk and reward? Take out the big stick and have a go at the green, but beware the trees on the right for they will catch any errant drive, leaving you struggling for par. A solid iron into the fairway and a short second will offer you the simple route to par.
Hole 6. 402yds par 4 s.i.3 A good driving hole to an uphill fairway but with trouble on the left, the second shot is blind to a green that slopes away from you. A good feel for distance and control of spin will put you on the green putting for birdie!
Hole 8. 381yds par 4 s.i.13 A drive with a slight fade will put you in the best position to attack this par 4. A careful approach is needed to find this small undulating putting surface. A birdie is possible but you will need all your skills to read this tricky green.
Hole 7. 400yds par 4 s.i.7 An inviting fairway laid out before you welcomes a straight drive here.
Hole 9. 174yds par 3 s.i.15 All downhill on this classic drop hole. Aim slightly left and let the ball feed in from the large bank, but don’t overdo it or you will catch one of the bunkers guarding this green. Anything missing right will leave a very difficult chip up a steep bank. A little teaser!
There is trouble down the right, but don’t let that bother you as you fire a mid iron into a large green. Miss the pot bunker left and another par is a certainty.

Hole 10. 442yds par 4 s.i.2 A blind drive uphill to a widening fairway, skirt with the tree on the left to give you the shortest line to the green on this dogleg left hole. A long iron will be needed to reach the tiered green which is protected by two bunkers. No shame in dropping a shot to par. Hole 11. 338yds par 4 s.i.16 A gentle fade from the tee will help the ball hold the fairway. If its dry and you’re a big hitter the green may be in range, for mere mortals, a well executed pitch is the secret to a sub par score.

Hole 12. 329yds par 4 s.i.8 Hitting a draw is favourable here as the fairway slopes from left to right. An accurate approach to a green cut into the hill is required to make par. Hole 13. 170yds par 3 s.i.6 A tee shot that looks longer than it is, so careful club selection is needed on this par 3, which is played over a valley. A bunker beyond the green guards against anything long, so a ball short landing on the manicured apron is no bad play. A par will probably make ground on the field!
Hole 14. 334yds par 4 s.i.10 Crack a drive away and your ball will catch the slope and run all the way to the bottom of the fairway. The approach is uphill to a green that is protected by trees on the left, so bailing out to the right and letting then bank bring the ball back is the sensible play. Hole 15. 364yds par 4 s.i.4 A visually inviting fairway lies before you as you tee the ball up. Get as close as you can to the top of the hill and then let your irons work their magic. A narrow entrance to a green that is protected by a bunker - short left, roll in the putt for a well earned par.

Hole 16. 154yds par 3 s.i.12 Gently uphill for this last par 3. Avoid the trees left and right which cause problems for the wayward tee shot. The green slopes from back to front, so leave the ball below the hole for a much easier putt.

Hole 17. 274yds par 4 s.i.18 Try and drive the green if you dare, but anything off line will be blocked out by trees. A well struck long iron from the tee, will leave a flick to the green, and the best opportunity for a birdie.
Hole 18. 297yds par 4 s.i.14 Trees line the left hand side of the carry. Perhaps an iron from the tee to the middle of the fairway gives you the best chance of attacking the final hole. Pitch it close, hole the birdie putt, then head to the bar with the crowd’s applause still ringing in your ears. Magic!

Liam’s career started at Sandy Lodge Golf Club in Hertfordshire where he achieved a scratch handicap at the age of 18. Here, he represented both Middlesex & Hertfordshire at county level which confirmed his desire to become a PGA golf professional. Liam spent 2 years on the Euro Pro Tour, during which time he achieved a number of top ten finishes.
He has since become an experienced coach, with a large teaching base across various clubs and the local area. He describes his approach as simplifying the golf swing by focusing on key fundamentals and coaching the person and not a method. With particular importance placed on the short game he has developed a reputation as a coach in this area of the game. Liam is a very approachable person, so please pop into the professional shop and introduce yourself, even if it’s only to say hi… that’s perfect.

Our Pro team offer regular free golfing tuition, as part of the school day, using YMG short golf equipment - designed to capture the imagination and encourage participation from children from 5 years old to 16 years old. iam runs a well-stocked professional shop which offers an impressive range of golf equipment including clubs, balls, gloves, clothing and much more, to suit every level of golfer. Club crested t-shirts, jumpers, slip-overs and waterproofs are available. The Pro Shop is situated at the main entrance of the Clubhuse and next to the 1st tee. It is the focal point for visitors and members alike, to meet, talk golf and get friendly advice on all aspects of the game.
Whether it’s tweaking a swing, advice on equipment, custom fitting new clubs, kitting out a beginner with the right equipment, helping manage your tee time, coaching or simply taking a green fee, we do pretty much anything and everything golf. Perhaps best of all we are there to help you, the golfer, squeeze the most out of this wonderful game that both tantalises and frustrates in equal measures. Visitors can telephone the shop directly to discuss tee availability. You can also hire your buggy or trolley and pay your green fee in the Pro Shop.
Liam and his staff pride themselves on their expertise at club fitting and teaching, and are skilled in both disciplines at the highest standards within the industry. A full repair service from re-gripping up to loft and lie changes and re-shafts is available.
