WELCOME Enfield Town Football Club plays in the Isthmian League Premier Division. The team were promoted from Isthmian Division One North in 2012, a few months after moving into the refurbished Queen Elizabeth II Stadium in Donkey Lane. More recently, the side have reached the Middlesex Senior Cup final (2015-16), the Isthmian Premier play-off semifinals (2016-2017), the 4th qualifying round of the FA Cup (2017-18) and in 2018-19 the Velocity Trophy (Isthmian League Cup) was won after a 2-0 final win against Hornchurch.

The first supporter-owned club in the country, our vision is to be an inclusive club for all, and a football and social centre for the community with a range of teams playing at the highest sustainable levels possible.

A thank you to Roger Reed Enfield Town life president Roger Reed, father of current chairman Paul Reed, has joined a select group by becoming an Isthmian League life member. The accolade was bestowed on Roger at the league’s annual meeting in Brighton when Roger stepped down as a board member after almost two decades’ service across two spells.

“I had no idea about the award,” says Roger who, at 75, has decided to call time on his invaluable work on the Isthmian League board where he was primarily responsible for maintaining standards through ground grading.

In the entire history of the league, founded in 1905, only a small group of officials have ever been made life members, including former FIFA president Sir Stanley Rous. Indeed, Roger is one of only two life members currently living.

“I thought they would do something for me but not that. I was bowled over by it. I’m immensely proud.” “I never dreamed for 10 seconds that I’d end up a life member of the league. I just did what I did because I had the knowledge and the time.”

Now retired, will he miss it? “Yes and no,” says Roger. “I must have visited literally hundreds of clubs. I decided to retire because of my age. I don’t quite have the energy any more to drive all those long distances. But I’ll miss being on the inside track, if you like.

“It wasn’t just me. I worked in partnership with Keith Wortley who was a structural engineer and knew the language of the builders and contractors.

“However, now I can relax and do other things. And, of course I’ll still be coming to watch The Town as often as I can.” Just over 10 years ago, Roger, who used to work for the FA -- his duties revolving around funding facility developments -- was hugely instrumental in getting Enfield Town’s 99-year tenancy deal at their QE11 stadium over the line. He was vice-chairman of the club at the time and recalled: “When we

“We had to compete with other bidding groups to be the anchor tenant. The stadium was derelict, even though it was a listed building, and had to be totally revamped. But we were dying on our feet having to play at Brimsdown. “I’d put together a brochure which demonstrated what we would do to develop the sport in the borough and I’d like to think we’ve more than delivered on that.” The first game in the new stadium was against Harefield United in the Middlesex Senior Cup.

Roger recalled: “We didn’t want to make too much of it as we didn’t want too many people there since we didn’t know how the ground would work. “The one that really sticks in my mind was the official opening against a Spurs selection when we had the best part of 1,000 people there. It was a wonderful atmosphere and we won 2-1. The legacy now is that we have established ourselves as one of the leading non-league teams at step three and we have a permanent home for the next 89 years.”

However, now I can relax and do other things. And, of course I’ll still be coming to watch The Town as often as I can. etfc.london / 9

Recent history So near, and yet so far. In front of the club’s biggest ever home attendance – and twice as big as any seen since moving to QE2 Stadium in 2011 – Enfield Town’s promotion hopes ended in heart breaking circumstances back in April. But having been within a whisker of The National South League South, they go again in August hoping to achieve the ultimate dream. On the biggest night of their footballing lives, Town led Hornchurch twice, only for the visitors to level on 87 minutes and then snatch victory three minutes later, just as the clock had been ticking towards extra-time. It sealed a 3-2 win for the East London side, who went on to lose to Cheshunt in the playoff final. Players, management, fans and directors were collectively left shellshocked but it was nonetheless an

incredible atmosphere and entirely fitting that after a memorable campaign, the team were given a rapturous send-off by the majority of a bumper crowd of almost 2,000 – 1,948 to be precise – that had the QE2 Stadium packed to the rafters and bursting at the seams. Despite the agony of defeat, the entire squad can look back with pride. The play-offs were always the goal from day one of the season, something clubs with far greater resources also aspire to but often fall short of. A record points tally spoke volumes about the commitment and camaraderie within the squad and the ambition for the upcoming season will be more of the same – with the ultimate goal of trying to go one better and achieve automatic promotion.

Early History Enfield Town FC was born out of the struggle to save arguably the greatest non-league football club in the country, Enfield FC. In 1999 supporters fought a fantastic campaign to save Enfield’s iconic stadium that had staged so many big matches over the years. Despite the fans’ efforts, that battle was lost and shamefully the club’s owner and the council concluded a deal that saw the Southbury Road Stadium replaced by a housing development and leisure complex. Without a home in the borough the once great Enfield FC continued a nomadic existence. The supporters now turned their campaign to bringing the club back to Enfield. Town’s current home was identified as a possible option, but there was no will on the part of the owner to bring the club back to Enfield. And so the campaign

took another turn as the supporters sought ownership of the club assisted by Supporters Direct, an organisation committed to fans having a say in the running of their football clubs. An outline agreement was reached which would have seen supporters take control of Enfield FC but when that agreement was broken another option had to be considered. By now the supporters had formalised their organisation and formed the Enfield Supporters Trust. A meeting was held and a vote was taken to consult members on the formation of a new club, Enfield Town FC. A postal ballot of the Trust’s 400 members took place and voted by 9:1 to break with the old club and start as a new club committed to playing in Enfield. meant dropping four divisions and playing in the Essex Senior League. Thanks to the support and assistance of Brimsdown Sports and Social Club a ground was secured in the borough of Enfield. Over time that ground was developed from an open field to a stadium that met the requirements of the Isthmian League. In 2011, after an effective campaign for a ground of its own by Town supporters, the club was given a 99-year lease at the QEII Stadium, on the opposite side of Enfield playing fields to the site of the old Southbury Stadium. Since then, the football club has gone from strength to strength thanks to the collective efforts of its supporters and on June 23 Enfield Town FC marked 21 years since being formed.

It’s been an interesting journey to say the least, with the ups and downs that all clubs experience. Six months after moving into the QEII Stadium the Towners capped a hugely successful campaign on the field by gaining promotion to the Ryman Premier Division – where they have remained ever since. There were times when many wondered how long it would take for the club create its own identity. But now not only does the club have a stadium to be proud of in the heart of Enfield but have created a fanowned template that has not only been copied by a string of other clubs but has brought them plaudits from across non-league football – and not just in the UK.

Early History It isn’t every day that a grass-roots non-league football club discovers a whole new fan base – especially one hundreds of miles away. Enfield Town are now, would you believe, being avidly supported by a Spanish website whose readers have taken The Towners to their collective hearts as a result of its fan ownership ethos. Every month, Aficion Deportiva, founded by a group of student journalists and read by over 40,000 fans across Spain, features articles on Enfield Town’s progress. Pablo Triguero, who co-ordinates the website’s amateur football coverage, explained: “When I was a child, I was a big fan of the Premier League and its star players.” “But in recent years a lot of things have changed, not least clubs’ relationships with the fans.

“That’s when I started to look into the whole concept of fan ownership and discovered Enfield Town. I love the way the club is focussed on the community.”

FIRST TEAM Our first team start the 2022/3 season with great optimism having come so close to promotion during the last campaign, losing in the playoffs after achieving a record points total during a very entertaining year for the club. As ever at our level, where players aren’t on long-term contracts, some of the side have decided to try their luck elsewhere, mainly in a higher league. Whilst always disappointing to see good players leave it does reinforce our position as a club who develops their squad well and there are many examples of ex-players moving in to the professional game after making a reputation for themselves at the Town. These departures though have given us an opportunity to bring in new talent and we are delighted to have been able to attract some great players to join the squad. Perhaps

the most notable is local lad, James Dayton. Having played for many years as a professional, including time in the Scottish Premier League, he will bring great experience to the dressing room. The league is likely to again be very competitive with a number of clubs strengthening their squads and pushing for promotion. Town will look to build on last season’s success, particularly at home, where an ever growing and vocal fan base get behind their local team. There is a great bond between supporters and players, as a fan-owned club this is something we are incredibly proud off. We believe that our level of the game provides a great balance of good quality football at an affordable price and we hope to see you at a game soon!

Youth Enfield Town FC is pleased to work with Level 7 Academy. In 2012, the founders decided to create a football academy that offered the opportunity for players to develop and grow within and so EDSV Academy (now Level 7 Academy) was started. The mission was to create an environment that focused on performance. One that bridged the gap between grassroots and professional football, which allowed the players to feel a part of something meaningful, to provide an ethos that worked on the person, as well as the player. In the beginning, we were a post-16 education programme for twenty four boys. Now, we cater for around five hundred boys and girls on a weekly basis, ranging from the ages five

through to nineteen, and we would love to add you to the family. By joining the Enfield Town FC Under 18 Education Academy run by Level 7 you can combine your education with full-time football provision. Facilities An integral part of the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium is the main pavilion, completed in 1953. This is a grade II listed building built in Art Deco style, and serves as the clubhouse, main stand and changing rooms. Opposite the main stand is a second, small seated, stand, while behind each goal, inside the perimeter of the running track, are two covered terraces. The running track was reduced from eight lanes to six during the refurbishment from 2008-2010.

Turnstiles

There are 3 turnstiles, but for most games only 2 are open. Beside the turnstiles is a gate for season ticket holders or those whose mobility does not allow them through the turnstiles and their carers as necessary.

Toilets

There are three sets of toilets available. • There are womens (nearest the turnstiles) and mens (furthest from the turnstiles) toilets at each end of the pavilion. These toilets have disabled facilities. • Inside the main foyer under the stairs to Butler’s Bar are mens and womens toilets. These do not have disabled facilities. • Near to the main entrance to the pavilion there is a separate disabled toilet with baby changing facilities. This is accessible from the foyer. Please contact any matchday steward or the club shop, who have access to a key if required.

Food

Refreshments including food are usually available for first team fixtures at the stadium. On a first team matchday there are generally three sources of food or drink: • A Catering Van adjacent to the turnstiles which serves burgers, chips, tea, coffee etc. • Butler’s Bar serves a range of lagers and cider, and a regularly changing selection of ales from local breweries; also serves rolls etc. • The Club Shop, which provides soft drinks, confectionery etc.

Card Payments

Card payments are currently resticted to the turnstiles and Butler’s Bar, although on occasion these facilities may not available.

Dogs

Enfield Town welcomes well behaved dogs in the open areas of the Stadium. Please beware that not all people are comfortable around dogs and it is appreciated if dog owners will give such

Facilities people space. If your dog is not well behaved or causing distress to others near you, you will be asked to move or leave the stadium as a last resort. Dogs providing assistance to their owners are always welcome.

Car Parking

A public car park is situated just off Donkey Lane, next to Enfield Playing Fields, adjacent to the to the QEII Stadium. The entrance to the car park is at the end of the initial straight section of Donkey Lane, just past the houses on the left as you approach the stadium. Before the road bears right (you will be able to see 3G Facilities straight ahead) you need to enter the car park just beyond a speed hump. Please do not park on Donkey Lane itself, as there is limited parking for residents and doing so also causes delays and difficulties to other road users.

Where to park

On match days, visiting officials and players can park close to the stadium when room is available, but we request

that the main car park is used where possible. Coaches for visiting players and supporters are normally allowed access close to the stadium.

Disabled Access

There are a number of disabled parking bays at the far end of the main car park, fairly close to the stadium itself. In most cases access by wheel chair, pram and those with limitations in mobility is no trouble from here. If difficulties are experienced, however, please drive round to the front of the stadium and contact someone on the main door and we will see what we can do on the day. Dropping off before parking could be a viable alternative solution.

Height Restrictions

The car park has a height restriction in Donkey Lane, beyond the first bend, on the approach to the stadium. Visiting coaches need to make sure that someone is available to move the barrier. Details of who to contact should have been provided before the match but if not please contact organisers.

3G Pitch

Enfield Town FC uses the 3G Pitch in Donkey Lane, adjacent to the QEII Stadium, primarily for senior team training as well as for disability teams, walking football and football schools run by Enfield Town FC Community Sports Development Ltd.

Dropping Off

To drop off, drive parallel with the main car park to the stadium itself and you can let people out in front of the main entrance. Please be courteous of people and crowds that may be there please take your time, especially turning round.

In 2011 the building was fully renovated and restored as part of Enfield Town Football Club’s move to the stadium.
