Our magnificent 27 Hole Course offers a game of great flexibility, challenge and variety, featuring free draining greens laid out in three loops of nine holes, all starting and finishing at the Clubhouse.

We also have a Par 3 course, which is ideal for beginners and golfers developing their game. In 2013, we were delighted to be awarded the GolfMark Club of the Year and pride ourselves on offering both a safe and an encouraging environment, especially for junior and beginner golfers.

We are ideally situated to serve the South East business community, and conveniently located near to the A127 (just 30-minutes from the M25, junction 28) so whether you are a member, in the area on business, or on holiday, Garon Park is a haven for players of all ages and levels of expertise.

In fact, many of our members and visiting golfers say that the Club’s specialty is our ability to meet the full range of customer needs, from complete beginner to the more experienced player.

What’s more, the favourable design of our Complex lends itself as an ideal venue for social occasions when an unforgettable setting is the key ingredient, and our two function rooms are perfect for parties, weddings or corporate events. History Garon Park Golf Complex opened in June 1994 as Southend-on-Sea’s first new course for many decades on land entrusted to the Norman Garon Trust originally known as Foxhall Farm. It was designed by Alan Walker, a PGA Master Professional and experienced golf course architect.

It started as an 18 hole daily fee course together with a 9 hole Par 3 short course, and a floodlit driving range. As it was developed in more recent years the greens were constructed to a USGA specification allowing them to drain well, which means that our course can pretty much be played 365 days a year.

Large teeing grounds and generous expanses of fairways together with a ‘links’ feel makes the course a decent challenge, especially when the wind blows, which it regularly does! From our opening day it was very clear

that the club would become popular, and Garon Park Golf Complex has attracted many new golfers to the game, not least due to the generous sized clubhouse with its contemporary ambience that compliments the modern golf complex.

In the late nineties the Norman Garon Trust acquired a further 75 acres of land to the south east of the existing course. The back nine was split in half and additional holes were designed on the new land creating three loops of nine holes all starting from and finishing near to the clubhouse.

History The nines were originally named A, B and C but these were changed in 2012 to West, East and South, reflecting the location of the holes.

Since 2010 the course has had a large investment starting with a complete new irrigation system. Investment in all other areas has seen the club flourish again. In 2013 Garon Park was awarded ‘GolfMark Club of the Year’ for its work with junior and beginner golfers - the only club in Essex and surrounding counties to have received this national award.

Today Garon Park is considered one of the top courses in the County and improvements to the course and clubhouse continue to keep it at the forefront. We believe that the Complex’s simple strap line of ‘Think Golf – Think Garon Park’ says it all, so do come and visit our outstanding course and see for yourself how it represents a rare golfing challenge, and a delightful game!

About the Course Golf has been enjoyed at Garon Park since 1994, and we believe one of the key features of our course is the flexibility, challenge and variety that the design allows. Free draining greens, laid out in three loops of nine holes, all starting and finishing at the clubhouse, offer different variations of 18 holes to be played.

Each design provides a good test of golf with a Par of 70 and all 18 hole combinations are in excess of 6,000 yards.

Free draining soil and sand based greens offer playability throughout the year, making it very rare that we need to go onto our temporary greens.

There are several water hazards giving a mature feel to the course that is way beyond its age. Some 1500 yards of new paths and walkways are also now in place to make your journey from green to tee a safe and enjoyable experience.

At Garon Park we also host a 9 Hole Par 3 Academy Course, which is perfectly designed for beginner golfers. The small

greens and tight fairways, coupled with the bunker and ponds make this a good test for players brushing up on technique and improving their short game.

With holes ranging from 75 to 145 yards our short course offers a great introduction to the course as well as the option of a quick game if pushed for time as it only takes around one hour, but if you have more time you could go round again for half the price - or even try out a game on our 9 hole courses.

The Course Tour If it is your first time at Garon Park Golf Complex you are in for a treat. Plan ahead for your visit by familiarising yourself with the course over the following pages and avoid the pitfalls that lie in wait!

Hole by Hole: The West Course West 1 - Par 4: A strong opening hole with a ditch at 230 yards that can catch out long hitters. There is a bunker on the right hand side to avoid.

West 2 - Par 4: Keep your tee shot down the left side of the fairway avoiding bunkers and the pond to the right.

Watch out for the deep riveted bunker front right of the green with your approach.

West 3 - Par 3: Bunkers await a wayward tee shot right and left of the green.

West 4 - Par 4: Observe the out of bounds all down the left side. A bunker in the middle of the fairway at 200 yards is a risk - or a reward tee shot.

West 5 - Par 3: A long par 3. Out of bounds down left the hand side with a tight bunker. Aim right of the green.

West 6 - Par 5: Long Par 5 with a ditch at 250 yards off the tee, slight dog leg left with a long narrow green guarded by bunkers left, and a pond on the right.

West 7 - Par 3: Difficult par 3 over 200 yards with a pot bunker front right side West 8 - Par 5: Nice long dog leg par 5 around a lake on the left side of the hole, can get home in two good shots and sets up a birdie.

West 9 - Par 4: A lovely closing hole to the West course with a magnificent Oak right in the middle of the fairway, once past that, an attractive shot over water to a slightly raised green in front of the Clubhouse.

The Course Tour Hole by Hole: The South Course South 1 - Par 4: Great start to this nine, the hole dog legs from left to right making the tee shot quite tough with three bunkers on the left hand side of the fairway. The second shot into a super green, guarded by bunkers left and right.

South 2 - Par 3: Seems like a pretty simple, straight forward par 3, but watch out for the slope on the green and the enormous bunker on the right hand side.

South 3 - Par 4: Long par 4 with a drive you need to keep to the left to have a slight look at the green for your next shot.

Beware bunkers that guard the left hand side of the green.

South 4 - Par 3: A two tier green over the water is your task on this tough par 3.

South 5 - par 4: Great par 4 that bends from right to left and downhill. A bunker is well positioned on the right side for

your tee shot and a green which has an upside-down-saucer feel to it.

South 6 - par 4: A short par 4 which if tactically played results in a par, but carrying the three bunkers which sit just on the left of the fairway is your choice.

South 7 - par 5: Sweeping par 5 running from right to left, you can hit the tee shot more left than you think but watch out for the hidden pond! Big sloping green can make putting difficult.

South 8 - par 3: Nice par 3 with a ‘camels’ hump in the green. Bunker on the left and gorse bush on the right should not stop you making par.

South 9 - par 5: The closing hole on this occasion is a long snaking par 5 uphill drive, through the trees. The green runs sideways to the fairway making it narrow and difficult to judge your distance approach shot. www.garonparkgolf.co.uk

The Course Tour Hole by Hole: The East Course East 1 - par 4: A friendly start to this nine with a nice wide fairway for the tee shot and a small iron into a generous green.

East 2 - par 4: Longest par 4 on the course with a sharp dog leg right to left. Watch out for the strategically placed bunkers on the left from your tee shot.

East 3 - par 3: A good uphill par 3 with large slope front to back on the green.

East 4 - par 4: Risk and reward par 4 that can be driven, but danger lurks with bunkers to the left and right with natural water feature to the right.

East 5 - par 4: Another sharp dog leg right with a drive that can carry a large hedge. The approach shot has to avoid the large bunker cut into the right side of a two tier green.

East 6 - par 5: Longest hole on the course. This spectacular par 5 cuts between trees both sides of the fairway and watch out for 3 pot bunkers guarding the left side of the green.

East 7 - par 4: This straight uphill hole tests the best.

Bunkers left and right to catch the inaccurate tee shot and now a lovely second shot into a vast green surrounded by the new mounding.

East 8 - par 3: Again the new mounding has added new life to this hole with Broom and Gorse flowering as a backdrop, two pot bunkers at the front and water feature left giving it that ‘links’ feel.

East 9 - Par 4: Best finishing hole of the three nines.

Mounding to the left and right, the drive is almost through a valley and the second shot is hot across water onto a double green shared with West 9. www.garonparkgolf.co.uk

Season Tickets Our very competitive season tickets are one of the most popular choices we offer.

There are two types, 7 day and 5 day, which we have prices to suit all ages!

A 7 day season ticket is an all-inclusive package, which offers unlimited golf 365 days a year. Our 5 day season ticket offers unlimited golf Monday to Friday and does included bank holiday Mondays!

9 Holes 18 holes too much? No Problem. We offer two types of 9 hole membership. The first is our General 9 hole

membership. This allows 9 holes to be played 7 days week (after 12pm on weekends) and you get money back on your membership card to spend in the bar and restaurant. The next option is our ‘Get into Golf membership’.

This membership is exclusively for golfers who are new to the game and who have taken part in the Get into Golf program (please see www.getintogolf.org for more details) and allows 9 holes to be played Monday to Friday after 10am and get money back to spend in the bar and restaurant. Both of these membership allow access to our member’s only website.

Flexi Membership Our flexi membership is a great option if you just wanted to become a member of the club. This allows you entry into club competitions, to gain or maintain your handicap and you also get money back to spend in the bar. All you have to do is pay a green fees before you play

Block Tickets If you find you not able to play as much as you like but would like some discounted green fees then why not purchase our block tickets? They come in games of 10 and 25 and you have the option of 7 or 5 day, simply pay for the block up front and you’re ready to go plus if you combine them with our flexi membership they are even cheaper!!

Junior Academy Garon Park we have a keen focus on Junior Golf and have a structured and safe environment for youngsters to learn and play golf.

Our facilities offer the ideal atmosphere for new young golfers because we take junior wellbeing very seriously.

Parents – and young people - can be assured that we adhere to every recognised child safety practice, including all of our PGA instructors and Junior Organisers being fully CRB (DBS) checked, and a Junior Welfare Officer being on the premises between Monday to Friday.

Garon Park uses the Golf Foundation’s Junior Golf Passport Programme (www.golf-foundation.org) for youngsters who are new to golf.

The programme covers the five core elements of the game, including putting, short game, long game, playing and the golfer’s code. At each level, there are a series of targets that get progressively more challenging. The Junior Golf Passport programme is both structured and interactive, making learning the game an enjoyable and fun experience.

Junior Academy The new and improved Junior Golf Passport runs in conjunction with the Golf Foundation and offers as follows: • Passport Programme • 20 weeks of structured coaching and learning within the new passport framework • Maximum of 12 pupils to each class. Pupils must pre book • Three defined stages of leaning; Start, Learn and Play • Class times will be 10.15am to 11am or 11.15am to 12 noon on Saturdays (book in by at 10am for the first session or by 11am for the second session) • Roll up classes are also available from 10am-11am and 1pm-2pm on Saturdays.

Junior Membership: Our junior membership is tremendous value for 12 months, giving you ‘club membership’ and full seven day playing rights on the main 27 hole course and the academy course.

There is a comprehensive schedule of junior competitions and events run by our dedicated junior organisers, especially in school holidays, including the Tuesday evening junior ‘Roll-up’. This event consists of professional instruction, followed by competition play on either the par three or main course, followed by light refreshments in the Clubhouse (nominal charge per head).

One to one junior golf lessons are also available at the academy course, seven days a week (pre-booking is advisable).

For any of our golf days, we require a ten percent initial holding deposit, with forty percent payable two weeks prior to your day, and fifty percent payable one week beforehand.

We are rarely closed for bad weather, and temporary greens are only used in exceptional conditions, so you can rest assured that your planned day is unlikely to be affected.

Every golf day is different, and we will tailor a package to suit your needs. We recommend you wrap up the day with a meal in our celebrated Clubhouse.

Meet our Golf Professionals Whether you are an accomplished player, looking to get into golf, or are in need of some expert tuition, we have five top class PGA Qualified Club Professionals, as well as our new PGA Professional Trainee Assistant, all CRB (DBS) checked, to assist you in every aspect of the game.

Our PGA Professionals all offer different expertise and experience: Gary has been a PGA Qualified golf professional for over 30 years, and Head Professional here at Garon Park for 15 years. He has a very easy going teaching style which helps pupils relax and improve at a very quick rate, making him the ideal coach for both beginners and accomplished players.

Steven is the Golf Shop Manager and has been a PGA Qualified Golf Professional for over 20 years. With his vast knowledge of both ‘The Golf Swing’ and ‘Equipment Technology’ Steven is well equipped to better your game with the perfect clubs to suit. He specializes in ‘Video Analysis’

and uses a slow motion camera to view the faults, coaching both beginners and advanced golfers.

Ben has been a PGA Qualified Professional here at Garon Park for 15 years and is our lead Junior Coach and Essex County Under 12’s Coach. His speciality is golf instruction for Junior and Elite players but coaches all ages and standard of player on a daily basis. He runs the Saturday morning Junior Passport classes which have been a successful pathway into the Junior County Squads. Q. My door bolt is the latest in security with lots of locking points such as hooks and a large deadbolt. Will it be secure?

A. It doesn’t matter how many hooks and deadbolts you have. It’s all down to the snap security of the Euro Cylinder.

Once the cylinder has been snapped the other secondary security devices are useless as the door can be opened in seconds.

Q. My Euro Cylinder has a British ‘Kitemark’, will it be snap secure?

A. The British Kitemark standard BS EN 303: 2005 does not cover snap resistance Cylinders with snap lines can be attacked again beyond the shear line which releases the cam and gives access. Only the snap secure locking cam of the ABS lock can provide a total block to the locking mechanism.

Q. My Euro Cylinder has sacrificial sections to stop snapping attacks.

A. Snap off sections will slow down the attack, but only by a couple of seconds.

The Sold Secure Diamond and BSI TS007: 2012 3 star accreditations that ABS has mean that the Euro Cylinder is snap secure without the need for additional security handles or cylinder guards.

Meet our Golf Professionals The golf course, constructed to a high standard and with free draining greens is laid out in three loops of 9 holes which all start and finish at the clubhouse. This enables different combinations of 18 holes to be played.

Georgina is our Membership and Society Manager and has been a PGA Qualified Professional at Garon Park for eight years. Combining cutting edge golf knowledge and a personable approach she is the ideal instructor for lady golfers. She offers structured courses for all golfers, especially lady beginners, as well as the juniors. Georgina is currently working towards her PGA Advanced Diploma in Golf Business Theory.

Steve has been a PGA qualified Professional for over 20 years and in addition to being an experienced golf coach, attending many coaching seminars which include the likes of Denis Pugh, John Jacobs and short game specialist Tommy

Horton, Steve uses Smartpro coaching system which allows pupils to access their lesson notes and interact with him via email. He is also a club repair specialist.

Coaching Here at Garon Park we are dedicated to developing golf and to bringing new players to the game.

Our PGA trained team of professionals provide a vast experience and outstanding golf tuition to all skill levels, from juniors and beginners to top amateurs and tournament professionals.

We deliver year-round coaching using our outstanding practice facilities which include a nine hole academy course, ideal for younger players and members who want to work on their game and a high quality chipping and putting green. We also have a 30 individual bay floodlit driving range that opens until late with high quality practice balls.

We run the highly popular ‘Get into Golf’ programmes which are partnered with England Golf and the PGA Association.

These are fantastic 4 week course for beginner golfers or for people looking to get back into golf. You’ll receive a basic introduction to golf from our PGA professionals, together with information about club membership and follow-on coaching

The Clubhouse and Dining You don’t have to be a golfer to enjoy either of our restaurant and bar areas, boasting a relaxing tranquil atmosphere with panoramic views over the golf course.

The Masters Suite is the main restaurant and bar which has stunning views of West and East 9 making it the perfect setting to relax with breakfast, pre or post golf drinks or even just enjoy lunch with friends and family.

Our Augusta Suite is a more intimate setting and is used as our alternative bar when we have larger functions. It boasts beautiful views of our academy course and putting green which can enjoyed from the restaurant or the balcony area.

We are open from 7:30am 364 days a year providing a selection of great menu choices for our guests ranging from the traditional all day breakfasts to lighter snacks or main meals for those of you with a larger appetite. We run daily

Open Competitions We know we have something special here at Garon Park Golf Complex and if you enjoy competitive golf you will be pleased to know that have regular competitions for members.

Although all competitors are trying their best to play well, club competition atmosphere is still great fun and everyone joins in to make an enjoyable round of golf - it’s not the British Open!

We have weekly roll up competitions which run on both weekdays and weekends meaning there is something for everyone. We also have 10 majors to compete for giving you a chance to get your name on one of our honour boards!

We also have invitational days which are open to nonmembers and provide a more fun based environment whilst still with healthy competition to keep it interesting.

We are a pay and play facility offering tee times on a booking system. Whilst it is recommended that you book, we will always endeavour to get you off on one of our three tee starts. If you are pushed for time on our busier days our academy course is an excellent alternative.

Non-members can book 7 days in advance and tee times can be reserved online via our website at www.garonparkgolf. co.uk where you can save 10% off the green fees.

We also provide discounted green fees at our two twilight times which start approximately 4 hours before dark.

For more than 12 players we can offer society green fee rates, we believe the more the merrier! All our visitors are welcome to use our bar and restaurant at any time, for breakfast, lunch or evening meal.

At our modern golf complex we have fantastic facilities both on and off the course and will provide you with a day out to remember.

Directions to our Club: By rail: Nearest Train Station - Southend East – is just five minutes by taxi.

By car: From the M25, exit at Junction 28, follow the A127, passing the Raleigh Weir Underpass and Tesco store, then take a left just past Cecil Jones College, towards Garon Park Golf Complex. The journey time from the M25 is approximately 30 minutes. Please note the 50mph speed limit approaching A130 flyover before Raleigh Underpass and the strict 40mph in the Southend area.
