Oakwood House, a grand Victorian mansion, is located just off the Tonbridge Road in Maidstone, Kent. The House is easily accessible from London via the M25, M2 and M20 and is within easy reach of the Channel Tunnel and the South Coast. et in the heathland and rolling slopes of central Kent, Kings Hill Golf Club continues to grow in stature as one of the South’s finest inland links set in the stunning woodland of the county.
The free draining course makes it one of the driest inland courses in the South of England. In superb condition all year round, Kings Hill GC comes in to its own during the ‘off season’ when other courses are closed by the weather.
Characterised by traditional links turf, carries over heather and rough to narrow, fast running fairways and beautifully sculptured greens full of character and deceptive slopes.
KHGC has a superb set up with the latest club fitting systems alongside the county’s leading coaching academy. The adjoining long and short game practice areas are both played from grass tees and, like the course itself are open all year round.
The club is known as one of the county’s friendlier courses maintaining all of the traditional virtues of the game with a modern and forward thinking outlook. About the Club
F
ounded in 1995, Kings Hill may be a relatively young club but has still grown to be regarded as one of the finest and most challenging golf clubs in the area.
In 1998 an Environmental Management Document was set out, recording history, laying down plans, standards and ongoing maintenance procedures to maximise the opportunities that the site presents in terms of its biodiversity.
The course architect, David Williams, made excellent use of the natural features and gently undulating topography to create a course that has quickly established itself as one of the best golfing challenges in Kent.
In 2004 Kings Hill Golf Club was a winner for ‘Land Management and Biodiversity’ in the Environment Awards for Kent Businesses.
Kings Hill Golf Club is also honoured by the fact that we have been accredited with Golfmark (incorporating Clubmark) which is a national scheme that identifies and recognises junior and beginner friendly golf facilities to proven high quality clubs, who are also recognised by Sport England as Clubmark facilities. The club plays host to a number of different county matches and events across Men’s, Ladies, Seniors and Junior teams.

ings Hill’s golf course provides an excellent challenge to golfers of all abilities at any time of the year. The course is always in first class condition and rarely closes during the winter months, when we continue to use the main greens whenever possible.
8 Kings Hill Golf Club
Hole 1 – 493 yards, Par 5 This short par 5 will get you under way; tricky grass hollows either side of the fairway will punish and wayward tee shots. Do not go left! An accurate second is needed to weave your way in-between the trees leaving a short pitch to the raised green.
Hole 2 – 433 yards, Par 4 The second hole serves as proof as to the challenges this course provides and as we all know, the straight holes are the toughest! ‘Out of bounds’ along the entire left hand side of the fairway mean you should aim just right of centre but two good strikes will be needed to find the green.
Hole 3 – 374 yards, Par 4 Only a straight shot to the fairway will give you a clear view of the green to your second. The slightest off-line shot to the green will land you in trouble and without a solid view of the green only the bravest players will aim for the pin. Left off the tee will see you completely blocked.
Hole 4 – 379 yards, Par 4 This hole requires another accurate tee shot whilst a second shot aimed to the left of the green could see your ball roll into a small grassy hollow resulting in a difficult chip. This hole rewards careful planning.
Hole 5 – 340 yards, Par 4 A long drive will leave you a short pitch up to this tricky green. However some players opt for an iron off the tee leaving a similar shot to the putting surface. In both cases a careful approach is needed as the split level green will punish

The Course Tour continued Hole 6 – 171 yards, Par 3 Anything short of the green is likely to find the bunkers on the left and right. Finding the small fairway on the left is the safe bet and may even see you able to putt close to the hole. Take the extra club as short is ‘nowhere’!

Hole 7 – 312 yards, Par 4 The issues that can be caused by this hole become immediately apparent once you hit the tee. With a narrow fairway and bunkers along the right edge of the green the seventh is known as one of the trickiest holes on the course. The safe approach is to hit an iron off the green but on your second beware of the sleeper wall short of the green or you may be playing a rebound shot against the sleeper.
Hole 8 – 177 yards, Par 3 A well-guarded green requires another accurate tee shot. Bunkers on the left of the putting surface mean it is best to favour the right, a par on this hole is nothing to be ashamed of.
Hole 9 – 518 yards, Par 5 The long-hitters may be tempted to find the green in two but will have to carry over the bunkers to the right of the fairway to get a clear view of the green. The shorter-hitters should favour the left of the fairway and two long hits will leave a simple chip to the double green. The broom and brush either side of the approach will ensure a reload, should you miss the fairway
Hole 10 – 551 yards, Par 5 This is the longest hole on the course but that doesn’t mean it is the most difficult. The fairway narrows about 100 yards from the green and, which itself is small and undulating. A precise and accurate pitch is needed to find the green but if you can reach it in three a birdie could be on the cards. Iron, Iron, Iron is the play here.
Hole 11 – 196 yards, Par 3 Long and accurate tee shots are a feature of this course. Another will be needed to find the large green but only putting yourself a few feet from the hole will pay off with an almost guaranteed birdie.

The Course Tour continued Hole 12 – 515 yards, Par 5 On this hole it is the second shot that will test your decision making. Three small bunkers lying across the fairway give the long-hitters the option of trying to find the green in two. Meanwhile shorter hitters often decide to lay up short of the bunkers before pitching to the green. The large greenside bunker will swallow anything running straight and short of the green.

Hole 13 – 406 yards, Par 4 The right is the best side to favour on this hole, from tee to green. Finding the left of the green on your second shot could place you firmly in the bunkers leaving a difficult pitch out. Hole 14 – 404 yards, Par 4 The fourteenth is much like the hole that preceded it; a bunker on the left of the green van cause problems for any whose ball finds it. The best line to play is to play the centre right.
Hole 15 – 334 yards, Par 4 A careful approach is needed from the tee on one of the shorter par 4’s on the course. A narrowing fairway with bunkers on either side can cause issues. The undulating green requires an accurate second shot and with more bunkers short of the green any mistakes will see your ball in trouble.
Hole 16 – 400 yards, Par 4 The green is well protected and cause quite a bit of mischief to those who are not careful when approaching the green. Bunkers on all sides make your second shot quite a challenge but successfully managing it can offer the reward of a birdie.
Hole 17 – 159 yards, Par 3 The long narrow green will favour a faded tee shot and with two pot bunkers to the left of the green and along the front right, only an accurately hit shot will find the target.
Hole 18 – 460 yards, Par 4 We’ve saved the longest par 4 for last. A tee shot right down the middle of the fairway is needed to avoid the bunkers that lie on either side of the green. The green is shared with the 9th and is both undulating and wellguarded. Ending on a par is no mean feat, no find your way back to the clubhouse and relax with a drink to celebrate completing your round.

The Clubhouse continued The Club House can be hired out for evening parties and functions on request. There are also meeting rooms for corporate use, bookable through the club office.
Our restaurant is open from 8am-6pm throughout the week whilst the clubhouse is open from 8:00 am to one hour after sunset all year round.
We host a number of social events in the clubhouse throughout the year and it is a place where members can socialise.

About Ben

en has been at the Kings Hill Golf Academy since April 2006. In this time he has developed a reputation of achieving success with players of all standards, age and sex.
This was highlighted when Ben was appointed a Golf England Academy Coach for his work with juniors, the Kings Hill Junior Academy run by Ben is the envy of many clubs. In 2012 the academy program grew considerably with the club now having 5 Professionals on site, each professional and their tariffs are listed below. Each lesson is delivered to the highest standard utilising the video analysis software, leading practice aids and Ben’s simple, uncomplicated method of teaching.
Working with you the pupil to achieve your goals, we will have a clear focus on specific areas to develop. Using practice exercises to measure improvement and stimulate practice. Each pupil is sent analysis of their lesson to ensure the best possible retention of information provided, lesson history and to highlight improvements over time.

One School, many journeys Senior School 70% A*-B at A level Preparatory School Excellent results at 11+ and scholarships to independent senior schools No two children are exactly alike; they all have their individual talents, likes and dislikes. Sutton Valence School recognises this and, from Nursery to Upper Sixth (Yr 13), offers an almost bespoke journey for each child, both academically and beyond the classroom. In this way, those things that spark each child’s imagination are found. Whatever the school arena, Sutton Valence strives to add value to its pupils. From Nursery in the Preparatory School, a comprehensive monitoring and reporting programme keeps parents constantly in touch with their child’s progress, both academically and personally. As each little hurdle is met, the bar is gently raised to ensure that, whatever their ability, children are being stretched. By the time they reach the senior school, Sutton Valence, their academic ability is benchmarked by Durham University against their 30 year history of data, who are then able to predict what grades each child should get at GCSE. The School uses this knowledge behind the scenes to constantly adjust targets for each individual child. So successful is this approach that by A level each child is almost guaranteed to get one half to a full grade better, per subject, than their initial prediction, no matter the starting point as long as they are prepared to work with us and to maximise their effort. ings Hill Golf Club’s professional staff will be providing lessons on a weekly basis as part of a term time structured 10 week course.
The structured tuition program is designed to provide a comprehensive learning experience. Pupils will be taught all areas of the game from teeing off to putting, as well as rules and etiquette. This allows the pupils to learn the key fundamentals of the game in a fun, friendly format that can be used for the rest of their lives.
The classes will be limited in size to ensure the best possible learning experience and safety. Classes will obviously have an emphasis on improving and learning the game, but fun games, challenges and competitions add to the fun and enjoyment with a weekly trophy presented for effort and achievement.
Junior classes will be on Saturday and/or Sunday morning and afternoons subject to availability, places will be allocated as soon as possible on the return of the relevant forms. The upward trajectory of the junior section from coaching to teams is starting to make waves around the county.
Our Professional staff are NSPCC certified, First Aid qualified and CRB checked. Equipment will be provided if required.
