ay I offer a warm welcome to you all to 2018 from the team at the RSYC? It seems a while ago that we were singing carols around the Christmas Tree at Ocean Village and enjoying a splendid supper. Now the lighter evenings are beginning to return thoughts turn once more to sailing. There is a very extensive sailing and cruising programme this year with something for almost everyone to enjoy. The Racing programme includes the outstanding RSYC Race Management Team running Fast 40’s and playing a leading role in Cowes Week uniquely setting courses and running starts on the water all week as well as a full racing programme for all. The Charity Pursuit race for the Commodore’s charity also provides a great opportunity before laying up for you to try your hand at cruiser racing with each boat having an individual timed start, so if you can sail your boat this is one for all. The social programme is packed with variety. At over 70 planned events it is the biggest programme yet and full of innovation. If you haven’t been to an RSYC event for a while take a look at what is on offer. Since this is my column can I ask that you at the very least put in your diary my Cowes Cocktail Party on the 2nd of August both to celebrate the start of Cowes and to give our race management team a good send off and Trafalgar Night Charity Dinner on the 20th of October! From fine dining, riverside parties, a “James Bond” Casino, gin tasting and great parties your social calendar will be easily filled.

Welcome to On the Water and Ashore My charity will remain the RSYC Trust which has done some sterling work supporting the Young Carers in and around Southampton. These youngsters spend a great deal of their childhood looking after others. The Trust has created opportunities for them to get out on the water and wishes to expand this work, in conjunction with SWAC, with the aim of then learning to keelboat race in Sonars. They will be joined in this venture by our cadets so if your children or grandchildren are not registered with us now is the time. We are unusual in that we enjoy two Clubhouses. If you haven’t had the delight of waking up to the sounds of wild life on the river you haven’t moored overnight at Gins, a must for the diary. Combined with a Gins event or just an enjoyable supper wonderfully prepared the experience is sublime. The Ocean Village Clubhouse has become very popular with many events selling out quickly and with the success of the restaurant early booking or table reservations are important to avoid disappointment at busy times. The new hotel in the basin has revived interest in the location as well as providing a useful benchmark for our own standards which are much in demand by third party users of our prestigious venue all of which helps to keep our membership fees competitive and good value for money. I have enjoyed receiving and acting upon your feedback and look forward to doing so in this coming year. It is our Club and together we will make it the “go to place” in the Solent area for those interested in boating and good company.

Ocean Village Clubhouse

Royal Southampton is exceptional in having two waterside clubhouses. And each is in a stunning but very different location.

Ocean Village Clubhouse at 1 Channel Way, is close to the heart of Southampton yet also gloriously positioned overlooking the Ocean Village marina. The view from the bar and the restaurant impresses everyone as they enter, as does the traditional, imposing décor, and there are few places in the City as pleasant to relax in the Summer with a morning coffee or a sundowner, as on its wraparound balcony. Our second clubhouse is wonderfully located in the heart of the New Forest. It is accessed by a private road leading from St Leonards, and overlooks a wide reach of the unspoilt Beaulieu River, with its varied plant and birdlife, on the protected Beaulieu Estate. Our Members are uniquely fortunate to have access to the Club facilities in this outstandingly beautiful area, including our recently extended, shore pontoon, a river pontoon and Club moorings supported by a Bosun service, dinghies and kayaks for Members’ use – and even specially trained crabs to delight the children! All this plus a clubhouse with commanding views over the river and cuisine of the same high standard as its sister clubhouse at Ocean Village. The Sunday Carvery is particularly popular – make sure to book! Opening hours vary according to season – The bar and restaurant are open Weds to Sun in High Season (early April to mid Oct) and Fri to Sun in the Low Season. (The Clubhouse is closed from mid Dec to mid March). Lunch is served on all open days and Dinner on Fridays and Saturdays (6 to 9pm). The Club is open every Bank Holiday Monday. elcome to another great year of non-stop fully crewed and double handed racing with one of the most active and innovative clubs in the Solent area. This year’s racing builds on last year’s popular format so come and join us and experience the first class race management and social events we provide. All races and events are open to Members and non-Members alike offering: • A full range of year round Fully Crewed and Double Handed events. • A separate class for any six one design or white sail boats in any non-National race or series. • Text/email notifications and declarations for all applicable races. • Hot meals to suit a range of budgets at our clubhouses at competitive rates. Fully Crewed • Our NJO Sails Frostbite series starts in January and runs on alternate Sunday mornings through to March. It’s a great way to sharpen your skills and prepare for the 2018 season. • The 10 race Spring Series follows on in April with two races on each Sunday. • T he Thursday summer evening racing will again comprise a Twilight Series and a Summer Evening Series. The six races in each Series will alternate between the popular pursuit and average lap formats. • T he annual Commodore’s Charity Pursuit race will again be run in November bridged by the Winter Series. • S ome Fully Crewed races will again be open to double handed and/or white sail boats that wish to compete. Double Handed • The most popular Double Handed Series in the Solent is on a eight-race Main Series for 2018 with two four-race sub-series Solent and Passage. There will be social events ashore and one discard for each sub-series; two overall for the Main Series. Fully Crewed Racing Royal Southampton Yacht Club is proud to offer one of the most comprehensive programmes of year round fully crewed racing of any Solent yacht club. Many of our events are run on Southampton Water adjacent to our Ocean Village clubhouse and offer challenging and competitive racing but without the Solent chop. Southampton Water is in easy reach of Southampton, Hythe, Hamble and Cowes marinas and offers scope for a wide variety of racing using fixed and laid race marks to suit the sailing wind. Conditions are generally more sheltered than the Solent whilst the funnelling effect of the channel sometimes means that we have enough sailing breeze when conditions in the Solent are too light. Many races are dual scored for both IRC and Club rated boats. Typically there will be racing for two or three classes but we are always willing to establish a class for six or more similar boats. Races are normally followed by a prizegiving in the Ocean Village clubhouse bar where hot food and a warm welcome await.

Sunday Morning Racing Between January to May and October to November we race on Sunday mornings. Typically we run two races per morning, each of around an hourâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s duration starting at 10.00 with racing normally finishing in time for lunch.

Thursday Evening Racing Between May and August our Southampton Water racing is held on Thursday evenings with a mixture of pursuit and average lap races; one per evening. White sail and double handed boats are welcome. Get out on the water after a hard day at the office; enjoy the hourâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s racing and the sunset before heading back to the Ocean Village clubhouse bar for prize giving.

NJO Sails Frostbite Series Mainly Sundays 10am. 7th January - 17th March This is a closely fought 12 race series starting on Sunday, January 7 and ending on Saturday, March 17 with two races per morning starting at 10am; generally on each alternate Sunday morning. Get in training for the new season and back to the clubhouse for 1.30 pm for prize giving and a hot lunch. Early IRC certificate processing is available to our competitors. Spring Series Sundays 10am. 8th April - 12th May This is a ten-race Series with two races every Sunday morning. Just after Easter, for monohulls and multihulls. Results will be dual scored. Great competition on the water as the days begin to lengthen. We’ll be back in the Clubhouse by around 1.30 pm. for a prize giving and lunch. Twilight Series Thursday evenings 24th May - 28th June Summer Series Thursday evenings 5th July - 16th August These two Series of six dual scored Southampton Water races on Thursday evenings run right through the summer and alternate between the popular pursuit and average lap formats. It’s a great way to relax on a summer’s evening and if you’re struggling for crew why not try it double handed? Entry is open to Members and non-members, monohulls and multihulls. There will be the usual prizegiving at the Clubhouse after every race. Winter Series Sundays 10am. 8th October - 19th November This popular Series this year comprises eight races over two Sundays in October and two Sundays in Novemeber. There’ll be two races between 10 am. and 1 pm. each day. Monohulls with IRC certificates will be dual scored. At the Ocean Village Clubhouse there’ll be prizes, a warm welcome and hot food after racing each week.

RNLI Race/Rally

Saturday, 22nd September

Great fun and one of the friendliest events of the year, this is an opportunity for racers and cruisers to join in expressing our support for the RNLI. This year we return to RSYC Gins clubhouse on the Beaulieu. A Solent race of around three hours will be followed by our fundraising dinner. You donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have to race to take part: everyone is welcome however you arrive! Charity Pursuit Race Sunday, 4th November This year this light-hearted race falls between two of our Winter Series Sundays. Racers and cruiser/racers start in order of Club rating and the faster boats try to catch the earlier starters. Proceeds go to the Commodoreâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s charity. Racing will end around 12:00 so we can all meet at the Ocean Village Clubhouse for the prizegiving, raffle and prizes for the best fancy dressed crew. Hot food will be available in the bar and restaurant.

Double Handed Racing

e are proud to organise what is probably the most popular double handed racing in the country.

Both Solent and Passage Series will each consist of four races with one discard. The Solent Series is made up of The Spring, Autumn, West Princessa and Nab Doubles. The Island, Weymouth and Long Distance Doubles make up the Alongshore Series. The Main series will comprise all eight races with two discards. The new Mike Golding Trophy will once again reward the best contribution to the spirit of double handed racing. If you’ve not raced double handed, come and see what you’ve been missing! There’s a great atmosphere both on and off the water. In the RSYC Double Handed Series there are individual race class prizes and trophies, plus class trophies for the Solent, Passage and Main Series. SPRING SOLENT DOUBLE (Solent) Early May B/H Saturday, 5th May The first race of the season and of the Main and Solent Series. Three or four hours of racing with a windward leeward flavour where conditions allow in the Solent. A race prizegiving and welcome at the Ocean Village Clubhouse after racing. WEST PRINCESSA DOUBLE (Solent Series) Saturday, 19th May East to West Princessa Buoy but be ready for some Solent marks or even a windward start. Subject to demand, there’ll be a party and a prizegiving at a Solent destination after the race with plenty of time to get home on Sunday. 20

Double Handed Racing WEYMOUTH DOUBLE (Passage Series) Saturday / Sunday 9th and 10th June The first and second races of the Passage Series commence with an early start. This has been popular with both experienced and first time crews. There will be the usual celebration and prizegiving for the outbound leg on the Saturday evening. ISLAND DOUBLE (Passage Series) Saturday, 23rd June Always the most popular of the double handed races, regularly attracting more than 100 boats. This year weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll again use the Royal Corinthian Yacht Clubâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s line for our start and finish off Cowes. Circumnavigate the Isle of Wight with The Needles to port and collect a pair of engraved glasses as well as competing for the usual prizes and trophies! Le Havre DOUBLE (Passage Series) Friday, 24th August The longest and the last of the 2018 Passage Series. This race over the August Bank Holiday can be challenging but a great welcome awaits us; plus it offers the opportunity to linger on the other side of the Channel and cruise home. NAB TOWER DOUBLE (Solent Series) Saturday, 15th September This is the classic race of around 30 nm from the central Solent to the Nab Tower and back and will be run alongside the IRC Double Handed National Championships. AUTUMN SOLENT DOUBLE (Solent Series) Saturday, 6th October The concluding race of the Solent and Main Series takes us on a three or four hour race with a passage flavour in the Solent. A warm welcome awaits at the Ocean Village prizegiving after racing. ANNUAL PRIZE GIVING DINNERS The 2018 Double Handed Prize Giving will be on Saturday, October 27th.

Radio Controlled Boats

EMBERSHIP of the RSYC`s Radio Control Section is free to Club members and has become a well-established social and recreational facility.

For those who take part, racing high performance radio controlled yachts can be as exciting, challenging and as satisfying as full scale sailing. Yachts are controlled by a handheld radio transmitter sending instructions to a receiver located on board the yacht. The radio signals control a variety functions depending on the class of yacht being sailed. Racing follows the same rules as those used in full sized yacht racing - with a few minor changes to account for the fact that helmsmen are not in the yacht but on the shore. The Club has a couple of beautiful radio-controlled yachts, in easily handled travelling cases, that are available for members to take to rallies and model yacht events, and the Club provides regular sailing events at Gins, Ocean Village and at Lakeside at nearby Eastleigh. Participants span all ages and followers are delighted to find that this form of sport offers all the sailing, design and tactical challenges, as well as the sensations of sailing larger yachts and dinghies, all at a minimal cost. Cadet Sailing 2018

AHOY ALL CADET MEMBERS! The club is planning to encourage more Cadets to get involved with RSYC activities as part of the overall aim of encouraging youngsters to get involved in sailing and provide a safe and friendly introduction to what we hope will become a lifetime pleasure. The Club and the RSYC Trust is working closely with Southampton Water Activities Centre (SWAC) to provide sailing and water activity opportunities for young people aged between 8 to 18. These include taster sessions, structured RYA youth sailing schemes including day sailing, performance sailing and start racing and recreational sailing/water activities. Much of this activity will be based at SWAC adjacent to the Itchen Bridge in Southampton but we also intend to use the club facilities and boats at Gins. Often Cadets are related to RSYC Members but that’s not a pre-requisite. All are welcome Please see our 2018 diary of cadet events and contact us for more details.

his is the third year of operation of the Trust. In 2017 we were proud to have introduced over 150 young people to sailing. Many of these were young carers and the enjoyment and the learning to sail has in some cases changed their lives.

This year, the Trustees Brian Hinde, Mike Garvey, Graham Tracey and new Trustee Barbara Evans are planning to bring many more young people into sailing and boating. Much of this is possible with the help of Southampton Water Activities Centre and Equinox Sailing of Hamble who provide many of the on the water opportunities. Our thanks also to our funders The RSYC Commodores Charity, RSYC 50/50 Club, Hampshire CC, Winchester CC, Southampton CC, Greggs and Co-operative Group who have all made donations or grants to the Trust. With this funding and help from volunteers we will be organising Taster sailing sessions in dinghies and cruisers, putting people through RYA Stages I & II of Dinghy Sailing, entering two teams in Sonars in the RSYC Twilight Race Series helmed by Helena Lucas and Conrad Manning, Forming an RYA ‘On Board’ club group for regular recreational sailing, Family days on the water at Gins and Radio Controlled Boat sessions. Cruising Themed Cruises This year we are introducing Themed cruises. The themes are Food, Music, Literature, Festivals and Motor Boats. These will add lots of interest to our rallies and we hope all members, both sailing and motor boaters, will find them irresistible! Members are welcome to volunteer to host events. This can greatly enhance your rally experience!

Once again our year begins with the frostbite rallies, planned so that the hardier souls whose boats are still afloat can come by water. By restricting the destinations to the mainland all may attend whatever the weather and wherever their boats. The destination for our first rally is Mercury Marina where there is plenty of room in the marina and ample car parking too. We will meet in the evening at the Water Edge Restaurant. Our second rally is our first Themed Event, Music, for the Jazz at RSYC Gins on the Beaulieu River. Our third is to a traditional favourite, Marchwood Sailing Club. Whether you come by boat or by car to these events, join us and make a great start to the new cruising season.

Motor Boating Theme - Supper and Talk on Donald Campbell Date Destination Hosts 19 Jan Ocean Village Martin & ShĂ˘n Alexander Find out what made Donald Campbell a legend on the water and on land. The after supper talk by Phil Holt will tell the extraordinary story of his life leading up to the fateful day in January 1967 on Coniston Water and the current restoration of Bluebird after its recovery. We will be making a trip to explore the River Frome up to Wareham on Sunday in either Members’ motor boats and/or one of the tour boats from Poole Quay. HW Wareham is mid-afternoon on Sunday. RSYC will be reserving berths both in Yarmouth Harbour and Poole Quay Boat Haven.

This is one of the most popular longer distance cruises of the year, possibly because it takes us to one of our favourite destinations. This year the “Beyond” will be a cruise to Caen via the canal from Ouistreham. The 7 mile inland passage to Caen is suitable for both motor boats and sailing yachts. In Caen there is much to see and there are also the possibilities of tours to see the Normandy landing beaches and the Bayeux Tapestry.

The Bembridge rally offers a chance to enjoy a site of special scientific interest (SSSI). The Duver was once a nine hole golf course but now is the home of our Blackberry Picking, Petanque Tournament and Kite Flying. It is another ‘Must Visit’ and favourite destination. Training

he RSYC is a fully accredited RYA Training Centre. We provide a range of both practical and theory courses to Club Members and nonmembers alike.

Theory courses are, in the main, held at the Club. Powerboat Level 2 courses are held on local waters using the Club’s own Ribcraft 585 powerboat. There is also a very healthy training scheme for those Members wishing to progress through the RYA qualified race officer scheme and, once again, practical training takes place on the Club committee boat, a Mitchell 31, and the Ribcraft 585. From time to time, a one day structured safety programme for man-overboard training and flare demonstration is run to allow Members to practise on their own boats those aspects not normally covered by other courses. The recovery of a dummy from the water using own methods being the main exercise, but the opportunity to handle and fire flares is also part of the day’s activities.

The RYA Courses offered include: Basic Navigation and Safety Theory; Day Skipper Theory; Yachtmaster Theory; Sea Survival; ISAF Offshore Safety Certificate; Diesel Engine; GMDSS VHF; RADAR; First Aid; ISAF Personal Safety. Powerboat Level 2 and practical ‘own boat’ assessments for the International Certificate of Competence (ICC) together with Inland Waterways. CEVNI Endorsements are also offered. All courses are run by fully qualified RYA instructors. Given sufficient numbers, other courses and course dates can be arranged in addition to those currently listed in the Club programme. ocialising with like-minded people is what Club life is all about. In the Summer this may be out on the water at rallies or on cruises, on the Riverside Terrace at Gins or on the Waterside balcony of the Ocean Village clubhouse. In the Winter friends may then gather for cosier parties and get-togethers, swapping stories and comparing notes. Excellent food, convivial bars and attentive staff all contribute to the special experience that is RSYC. Our reputation as a friendly club has not come about by accident – we work hard to bring our newer members into the heart of the Club. Invitations to receptions hosted by the Commodore and Committee members throughout their first year of membership enable them to be introduced to compatible people and activities that interest them. The Club offers a huge range of social opportunities beyond its core boating activities of racing, cruising, dinghy sailing, radio controlled yachts and RYA accredited training - which Include organised events and activity groups other than those already scheduled. Essential therefore to make sure you read the regular e-bulletins and check on the Club’s website (www.rsyc.org) for these additional functions. Our Formal and Informal Events As a Royal Yacht Club we do both ‘formal and informal’ events extremely well and make them fun! During the Winter season we console ourselves for the reduction in activity on the water with both formal black tie and posh frock parties and informal reefer jacket and cocktail dress evenings. Live music and dancing, entertainment and inventive menus showcasing the skills of our professional chefs make these particularly special. It’s even more fun if you make up a table of friends, who can be either Members or your personal guests who are not Members. Formal Events at the Ocean Village clubhouse. The Club’s annual Burns Night in January has become so successful that reservations from Scots, quasi Scots and Sassenachs who enjoy a good party came in very early this year… Later in the year there is a new event – a Casino Evening with a Champagne Buffet Supper on April 21.

On Saturday June 9 get ready for a fun-filled 1920’s Cocktail Party with a Blues & Swing band and singer – this era saw the height of New Orleans and Chicago styles of jazz, sandwiched between the Dixieland sounds of the 1900s and the Swing era of the 1930s. Our playlist is filled with authentic 1920’s sounds: pianist and bandleader Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong and his Hot Five, cornetist Bix Beiderbecke and saxophonist-clarinetist Sidney Bechet – and music from Cole Porter to Glenn Miller. Great dance tunes!! Plus you get a chance to try out a range of 1920’s cocktails including a light, delicious Rickey – a mixture of gin and lime-juice with a splash of club soda, a French 75 made from gin, champagne, lemon juice and sugar, or just a straightforward Champagne Cocktail, and for a change a Mint Julep with real Kentucky bourbon. The choice really is yours!!

Events, Social Groups and Activities Saturday July 28 brings you one of the Speciality Paired Food and Wine evenings – in fact a Surf & Turf Supper evening with a three piece band – this is when you can experience one of those superb informal evenings just sitting on the Waterfront balcony in the evening sun or just relaxing listening to the music. The Commodore’s Cocktail Party on Thursday, August 2 marks the beginning of Cowes Week and is one of the smartest informal events on our Calendar, attended by many of our Honorary Members and invited guests from other Royal Yacht Clubs. The Winter season is launched on Saturday, October 20 with the Commodore’s Trafalgar Dinner – do join us for this traditional naval celebration commemorating Nelson’s famous victory in 1805. Watch the parading of the beef and join the Commodore in a port toast to Admiral Lord Nelson. Next it’s time to get dressed up for the Christmas Masquerade Party which this year is on Saturday, December 15. Always great fun especially with a group of friends. And before you know it you will be welcoming in 2019 at our glamorous New Year’s Eve, Top Hats and Tiaras Ball. Members’ Social Events at Ocean Village Do come along and join us at Ocean Village clubhouse each month for our more relaxed Members’ Social Events – as they offer the chance to enjoy an evening catching up with old and new friends. Dress for these is typically Smart or Smart Casual. The days of compulsory jackets and ties for men are long gone, especially for relaxed social events and often these are now frequently worn to smarter events. Our two exciting additions this year are the monthly Live Music Nights and our Speciality Paired Food and Wine evenings. The Live Music events are free entry for Members and are on the first Friday of each month from January to October. At the end of each month our Speciality Paired Food and Wine evenings start on March 31 to November 24 and range between finedining and themed evenings. And not forgetting of course later in the year the famous Beaujolais Nouveau Wine evening on November 9 both at the Ocean Village clubhouse. Hopefully these newer events will become as much loved as the others such as… The lively Carvery and Quiz Night which is on the second Thursday of each Winter month i.e. January to April inclusive and again in October and November with teams of six competing over the seven months. Newcomers are welcome to come along at any time and will be assigned to a team if they do not already have one. The long established Steak and Kidney Pudding Club that is held in the evening of the third Wednesday of each Winter month i.e. January to April inclusive and again in October and November, and serves the absolutely best Steak and Kidney pudding you will ever have tasted – apart from your Grandmother’s maybe? These huge shared suet crust puddings are a surviving tradition of our Victorian Gentlemen’s club days, and have to be tasted to be believed. (But there is a light alternative for modern healthier eaters too). You are entertained afterwards by an informative talk while you digest.

Events, Social Groups and Activities Or the very popular Convivial Drinks and Dinner Evenings on the last Friday of each month i.e. January to November, which have proved a successful way of staying in touch with friends and making new ones. Just come for a few drinks or stay on for dinner too. This is a hosted event, to ensure that newcomers are quickly introduced around to the more regular attendees. *However do please make sure you let the office or restaurant know if you are planning to eat – the chef prefers not to have too many surprises, though he can usually handle a few spontaneous decisions on the night. We round off our Ocean Village programme in 2018 with our well known Carols Around the Tree on Thursday, December 20 (with the Salvation Army). Not to be missed is Donna’s famous Mulled Wine and Chef’s Mince-pies followed by the famous Club Carvery. And of course do remember to arrange to meet up with friends at the Christmas Eve Cheese and Wine Get Together – a great start to Christmas proper! Members’ Social Events at Gins Gins Clubhouse comes back to life after hibernating during the winter months with Jazz on the Riverside Terrace on 10th February - the Cruisers’ Frostbite Rally 2 also makes a special trip to Gins for this event. This is the time of year when we start to believe Spring must be on its way, out there, somewhere… and to nudge the idea along that April springs to life at the Easter Weekend with the Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday morning and Chef Rob Thomson’s Sunday Lunch -a regular feature throughout the year from March to October. Gins is a gloriously located venue overlooking the Beaulieu River which fully comes into its own in the summer months, when Members celebrate their good fortune in having this as their ‘jewel in the crown’. With this in mind Saturday, May 19 is a surefire hit and must be a date in your diary to join in an ‘All About Bubbles’ Summer Party at Gins Clubhouse. (Think Pimms, Champagne Cocktails, sunshine, girls in floaty dresses… the Weather Gods have had their instructions!) A change of focus on Saturday, July 7 introduces another not to be missed Rock and Blues Band – allowing you to just dance the night away on the Riverside Terrace with the stars looking down on you. Why jostle with the crowds in Cowes to see the Fireworks on Friday, August 10 at the end of Cowes Week, when you can watch them from afar while sitting comfortably on Gins Riverside Terrace with a glass in your hand – add to this the ability to watch all the wild life on the river and then sitting down to a delicious Bistro Supper – amazingly good for the soul. The following evening on Saturday, August 11 you can continue to relax and enjoy a GinsTasting event with Fever Tree cocktails. * Cruisers – why not sail or motor your boats round and stay overnight on the pontoon and enjoy both evenings? Saturday, September 8 sees the well loved Gins Proms Concert – the Last Night of the Proms broadcast live from the Albert Hall. Events, Social Groups and Activities Gins weekly Sunday lunchtime Carveries sign off for a couple of months with their Christmas Carvery Lunch on December 10. Whilst the Clubhouse then officially goes into Winter hibernation until Spring 2019. The Riverside and Coastal Walks in 2018 will now be held in the Spring and Autumn months instead of just after Christmas. The Club is given access to the Beaulieu Estate with the kind permission of Lord Montagu and we continue to be very appreciative of this privilege and the support of the Estate Managers. Luncheons The famous RSYC Carvery Lunches are held every Sunday at the Ocean Village Clubhouse throughout the year from January to April and October to December and at Gins Clubhouse from March/April to October. Booking at both is essential. This year Mothering Sunday Lunch is on March 11 so do make sure to book early for this as these excellent value for money Sunday carveries are often over-subscribed – even without the excuse of a special event! The Royal Ladies Lunch on Wednesday, November 7 will surprise us with another fascinating Key Speaker and the opportunity to meet up and find common interest with other lady members both of the RSYC and other Royal Clubs in the region. Supper Talks Evening talks are intermittently arranged throughout the year to link with the regular Thursday night Carvery or Wednesday Bistro dining. This year there will be a variety of topics considered to be of interest to members on nautical and non-nautical subjects.
