WELCOME Shoreham Football Club is a football club based in the lovely seaside town of Shoreham by Sea, West Sussex, England. They are currently members of the Southern Combination Football League and play at the Middle Road Stadium in Middle Road. They are famously nicknamed ‘The Musselmen’, due to the town’s original thriving mussel farming scene. The club is a real family orientated one and a great community hub.

HISTORY The club was established in 1892 and was one of the founding members of the West Sussex Football League in 1896. After their first season in the league they were relegated to the Junior Division, but returned immediately as champions the following season. The 1901–02 season saw the club achieve their first senior honours when they beat Hailsham Town 3–0 in the final to lift the Sussex Senior Challenge Cup. More success followed the season after when the club won the West Sussex Football League and the Sussex RUR Cup. They repeated the league success two seasons later, but had to settle as runners up in the Sussex RUR and challenge cups. The 1905–06 campaign saw the club achieve a treble of competition wins when they took the league title, and both the Sussex RUR and challenge cups. After the First World War the club played in the Brighton, Hove & District Football League, until the end of the 1919–20 season when they became one of the founder members of Sussex County Football League. The club then remained in the league up until the Second World War, when play was suspended, during which time they finished as runners-up in the 1934–35 season.

The 1951–52 season saw the club become champions of the Sussex County League for the first time.
www.shorehamfc.co.uk
Following the cessation of the Second World War, the club rejoined the Sussex County League when it resumed normal competition in the 1946–47 season. That season also saw the club make their debut in the FA Challenge Cup, where they met East Grinstead in the preliminary qualifying round. The 1951–52 season saw the club become champions of the Sussex County League for the first time, and they successfully defended their title the following season. The club maintained their winning ways the next season, as they then went on to win the Division One title for the third time in their history. Four seasons after their Championship win, the club were relegated back to Division Two, and it took the club until the end of the 1984–85 campaign to gain promotion, when they became champions of Division Two. The 1991–92 season saw their seven-year stay in Division One come to an end after finishing in the bottom two. The club regained promotion to Division One in the 1993–94 season, again as champions of Division Two.

HISTORY CONTINUED
In 2013 Shoreham had a new owner, Stuart Slaney, who oversaw major expansion; within two years, the club trebled in playing size with a new youth section which gave the club over 20 different age group teams, becoming one of the largest and most vibrant football clubs in the area. In 2015 Ralph Prodger joined Stuart Slaney as joint owner and chairman of the club. In the 2016–17 season, having topped the league table until the final month, the club finished as runners-up in the Premier Division to Haywards Heath Town. However, after Haywards Heath were penalized by the League with a nine points deduction for fielding an ineligible player in several games, Shoreham became champions and were thus promoted to Division One South of the Bostick (Isthmian) League, the highest level the club had reached in its history. A subsequent formal appeal by Haywards Heath was eventually turned down by the FA, but this lengthy procedural delay meant that Shoreham had no official confirmation as to which league they would be competing in until only eight days before the start of the new season.

Shoreham became champions and were thus promoted to Division One South of the Bostick (Isthmian) League.
www.shorehamfc.co.uk
The lack of time to build a competitive playing squad for the Isthmian League proved significant and the team struggled throughout the 2017–18 season, winning only four matches and eventually being relegated back to the Southern Combination Premier Division. A further relegation followed immediately in 2018–19, a turbulent season during which the club had three different managers, and the club found itself beginning the 2019–20 season in the second tier of the Southern Combination League for the first time in 15 years. In May 2019 the club appointed Mark Pulling as first team manager. Shoreham were placed mid table with 14 games left to play when the 2019–20 season was declared null and void due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the start of the 2020–21 season, Shoreham had played 12 games and were 5th in the table when the league was placed on hold once again, and the competition was later curtailed in February 2021. After a tragic start to 2021 with both Ralph Prodger and his wife Cheryl passing away, Malcolm Saunders joined Stuart Slaney as joint owner of the club.

environmental commitment We class ourselves as the greenest non-league football club in the UK today with membership the international body The United Nations Sports for Climate Action Initiative as well as BASIS and Sport and Sustainability International (SandSI). We believe that it is everyone’s duty to ensure we contribute, no matter how small, to helping climate change. This is a real problem that we can’t ignore. With Shoreham FC being a prominent figure in the local community and on the national stage we can use our position to encourage other football clubs and supporters to join us in making a difference. Recently we were nominated for the British Association for Sustainable Sports (BASIS) awards. We were up against two Premier League sides, Southampton FC, and Norwich FC and yes you guessed it we won. This then allowed us to increase our green credentials by partnering with Pledgeball to help spread the commitment of climate change. MEET OUR VOLUNTEERS Non League Football would not survive without the army of volunteers helping out and Shoreham FC is no exception, both on matchdays and in the background with maintenance and pitch work. At Shoreham we have 18 such volunteers and everyone has an important role to play. Most roles cover matchdays as well as maintenance work on the pitch and also serve on the committee. In the clubhouse we have Janet Scott who covers every matchday serving great beers, wine and spirits behind the bar. We have Lynn and Ammie Scally working in the kitchen serving some great food. Chas Slaney offers the opposition committee half time refreshments in the boardroom. We have Ian Slaney who deputises for any absent volunteers on matchdays ,also helping to clear up after games. Nigel Pulling, our longest serving volunteer at Shoreham since approx. 1990, used to spend his time in the kitchen but can now be seen selling raffle tickets throughout the game. Outside the clubhouse our stewards Jodie Bradnam , Phill Neaves and Mark Scally help in the car park to direct people and keep everyone safe. The first person

that most people meet at the ground itself is Georgia Port who operates the turnstile. Matchday Programme Editor and Announcer is Mike Wenham who played for the club from 1969-70. Trevor Phillpott, who also played for the club intermittently between 1969-1997, helps out with maintenance. Our Media guy, Dean Brady, handles the Twitter and Instagram Reports. After Lock Down ended last year long time committee member, Stadium Manager and Project Manager, Keith Hewitt, together with the youngest member of the committee and player, Luca Slaney had the opportunity to build new bench seats in the stand behind the goal. They also raised the seating in the main stand as well as decorating the boardroom plus many other projects.

Anna Bottani, the Club Chairman’s partner, works as Treasurer and Sean Lofting as Secretary – both important and time consuming roles. We also have James Thompson who is Chairman of the Youth Team setup. Last but not least, committee member and groundsman Steve Boyle, who spends many an hour riding up and down the pitch on the tractor, divoting and marking the pitch in preparation for every home game, whether it be for the First Team, U23s or U18s. Without all these volunteers, who the club would very much like to thank , Shoreham FC would not be able to operate. Of course all this is headed up by the Chairman Stuart Slaney and Co Chair Malcolm Saunders whose dedication to the club is beyond bounds. If you want to be part of this warm and friendly team of volunteers, whatever you can offer, then please get in touch with someone at the club.

SFC COMMUNITY Shoreham FC have been in the community for over 128 years and are looking forward to another 128 years. We have now grown larger than we ever have and reaching the community is paramount to the club. We work closely with local charities and the local community. Shoreham FC collected a huge amount of food for our local charity The Shoreham Foodbank which is run out of the Shoreham Baptist Church in Western road. The donations were made by our entire first team, club committee, our U9s, U12s and U14s. We like to thank all those people that donated. The Shoreham Foodbank were very happy indeed. Shoreham Football Club does not just offer football to the local community but since 2013 the club has provided much needed support for local and national charities. We are very proud that this local community club has raised over £9575 in the last seven years for wonderful charities. We will be looking to hit the £10000 mark by mid 2023. Shoreham Football Club is all about offering the community the opportunity to play football and to introduce young boys and girls into the sport.
www.shorehamfc.co.uk
Thats why we are the only organisation offering free soccer sessions at our Mini Mussels Soccer School on Saturday morning all year round, yes that’s right FREE! We believe that young children should not be charged to play our national sport. Why would you go to an organisation that charges up to £5 per session and the child gets no football pathway. We provide the additional choice for your child to play for our club teams.

Shoreham FC Youth Our youth teams have been established for over a decade and we are one of the largest clubs in the area and we now offer places for girls and boys of all age groups. Matchdays at our Middle Road Youth pitches are filled with proud parents and guardians cheering on their enthusiastic young players. All have access to our stadium facilities and have their own changing rooms. Our coaches are DBS checked and hold FA qualifications which include first aid training and child welfare awareness. Our free Saturday Soccer School for four to six year old boys and girls, ‘The Mini Mussels’ is extremely popular and provides a pathway to our Under 7’s team. The sessions are fun and based on an introduction to the sport without any pressure. It’s about enjoyment and forming friendships. At 8 years of age, girls have the opportunity to attend our FA Approved Wildcats Centre and then on to join our league teams. We also have a development academy (ages from 8 to 14) which trains once a week and matches are arranged against other academy teams.

Matchdays at our Middle Road Youth pitches are filled with proud parents and guardians.
Our U16’s have the opportunity to develop and progress to Shoreham FC County U18’s through to U23’s and on to the Senior team in the Southern Combination League. Many of our youth teams have traveled across Europe to participate in overseas tournaments and closer to home where they have played on premier league pitches such as West Ham and Southampton which have been very successful and great fun for all involved. All the youth teams get involved in all areas of the club especially when the senior team is at home we provide a great mascot day for our younger players. So as you can see the club offers a great opportunity for boys and girls to start off their footballing journey as well as boys and girls wanting to progress.
