Set in 240 acres of rolling countryside, the par 72, 6,625 yard tree lined course was opened in 1993. History A Robert Trent Jones Snr classic golf course is brought back into play. Stockley Pines is one of only 2 courses in the UK designed by arguably one of the best golf designers in the world, Robert Trent Jones Snr. What’s more, it is an open access golf facility in London with a somewhat glamorous history.
Formerly known as Stockley Park, the course was one of the original European Tour Courses, opened in 1993 by Nick Faldo. It was once regularly frequented by the Chelsea team in the era of Ruud Gullit, Gian Franco Zola and Luka Vialli. Retief Goosen, was a regular, who played it between tournaments when on tour in the UK, and Peter Oosterhaus was the Director of Golf.

History Continued Unfortunately in 2008 some ill advised landfill and the construction of a range meant that the club began to lose its reputation; both membership and visitors numbers dropped and the course went into decline.
Today however, Stockley Pines is finally emerging from this dark chapter in its history and reestablishing itself one of London’s finest public golf facilities again. Bought by private investors in 2010, a new management team is painstakingly carrying out work to get the course back into its original condition. They are currently working on a programme to reveal Trent Jones’s original masterpiece including unearthing many of the original water features and bringing them back into play.

About the course The course has added family tees making it accessible to the novice golfer whilst still delivering a demanding test off the original tournament tees for the lower handicapper and professional golfer.

This short right to left dog-leg par 4 eases you into the course and prepares you for what is to come. A long iron off the tee is a popular choice due to the narrow landing area, leaving a short wedge shot into the green. But beware of the bunkers RIGHT of the fairway, if found you could be off to a tricky start.
Another right-to-left dog-leg follows, however, be careful with your tee shot as too far left will see your ball find the out of bounds area. A carefully calculated second shot is required to an elevated and undulating green surrounded by three difficult bunkers.
Pro’s Tip: Favour the left handside of the fairway to enable a SHORTEST AND MOST direct shot into the green.
Pro’s Tip: A long drive is required here and preferably on the the right side of the fairway in order to give you a clear full shot into the very small green.

A straight drive down the fairway is the ideal start to this hole, avoiding the water hazard on the right and two fairway bunkers on the left of the fairway, lining up a good second shot to the green. A fairly wide green sets up a good birdie opportunity if you can find the putting surface in two.
This short Par 3 gives a brief respite from the tricky two holes that precede it. A wedge or short iron should help you find the green from the tee. Three shallow bunkers surrounding the green are the only real danger but should not pose too much of a threat.
Pro’s Tip: A good straight tee shot is required in order to get a clear shot into the green Try to leave the ball underneath the hole here, as the green slopes severely from back to front.
Pro’s Tip: Try to choose the correct club here, just hitting the green will not ensure you a par. From front to back this green measures 39 yards making 2 putting extremely difficult.

The green is not visible from the tee on this potentially tricky Par 4. A straight tee shot should see your ball avoid the fairway bunker on the left and leaves a downhill second shot to this tough green. A sloping fairway sees most shots slope towards the left side of the hole making it tough to hold a straight line but if you can you will surely be rewarded on the scorecard.
The first Par 5 of the course is fairly short but has a sharp dogleg right. A good drive can get you over the corner and leave a mid-iron which could see you reach the green in two. Trees line both sides of the fairway and watch out for the out of bounds area right of the fairway. This green can have some daunting pin positions with its sloping surface but if you can make it to the green in two a birdie is a great score.
Pro’s Tip: Try to avoid the left bunker off the tee, due to the change of elevation on the approach shot 1 club less could help you here.

Pro’s Tip: The perfect shot would be a slight fade up the middle of the fairway setting up a possible attempt for the green in two. Any shot over the green here will leave you a near impossible up and down.

Hole 8 Par 4 - Whites: 383 Yellows: 361 Reds: 308
The longer distance on this second Par 3 is not the only thing that makes this hole tough. An uphill slope means you’ll need to give your tee shot a little extra in order to reach the two-tier green. Four pot bunkers will punish you if you slice your shot.
Trees down both sides of the fairway and another two bunkers to go along with it make this a very tight tee shot. Two more greenside bunkers and some steep slopes on the back of the green will put your ball in the bushes if you over hit the hole.
Pro’s Tip: Take 1 extra club on this hole and try to avoid the right of the green as the 4 pot bunkers are very tough to get out of.
Pro’s Tip: The tightest hole on the golf course requires a straight tee shot. If achieved you should have a clear approach to the green.

This is the longest hole on the course and being a double dog leg doesn’t make it any easier. Out of bounds on the right and a left side littered with trees mean two calculated shots are needed to avoid any hazards. A slightly elevated green makes for a tricky putt and a par on this hole is no mean feat.
The tee shot on this dog-leg right Par 4 is very much risk and reward; with out of bounds on the left and right it will take a steady shot over the trees to take on the green but if you can make it close to the green from the tee there is a strong chance of a birdie.
Pro’s Tip: The longest hole on the course requires a long drive up the left of the fairway. Then favour the right hand side for your second.
Pro’s Tip: Aim for the corner of the dog leg to set up a fairly short approach. If you dare to take on the dogleg and go for the green, please wait for the sound of the bell.

This is one of the best holes on the course. A Par 4 which is dead straight and slightly downhill, but beware of the bunkers and water hazard down the left of the fairway and to the left and back of the green. Keeping your ball down the right of the fairway is the best way to avoid danger and make the green in two.
With two bunkers on the left hand side of the fairway it is important to favour the right from the tee. The narrow green is elevated and notoriously tricky whilst the greenside bunker proves very popular and is extremely tough to get out of.
Pro’s Tip: Try to favour the right side of the hole here on both tee shot and approach to avoid getting into the water.
Pro’s Tip: Try to fade your drive here to leave a short shot to an elevated green.

This long, downhill Par 3 has an extremely large green which rewards those that find it with a good birdie opportunity. But those who are not so fortunate could find themselves in one of the two greenside bunkers or even the gully that runs alongside them.
The wide fairway on this sub-500 yard Par 5 invites those with a big hit to try their luck with A driver off the tee. Three bunkers surround the fairly large green but if you can avoid them then a birdie, or even an eagle, could be on the cards.
Pro’s Tip: Don’t let the elevated tee and downhill hole fool you on the yardage. A long shot is still required, it’s nearly 250 yards to the back of the green.
Pro’s Tip: Keep to the right hand side of the hole to avoid the out of bounds down the left.

An uphill tee shot shapes slightly to the left to leave a downhill approach to the green. Out of bounds cover the left and over the mounds on the right. A greenside bunker on the right and a green that slopes left makes it difficult to hold a good position on the green with your approach. Do not underestimate how good a par score on this hole is.
Trees may cover the right of the fairway but it is still considered the safe option to favour the right from the tee. Out of bounds and two fairway bunkers on the left will punish those who dare take it on. Two more bunkers are found by the side of the green but shouldn’t cause too much trouble if a strong tee shot is hit.
Pro’s Tip: Try to hit the approach shot on the right side of the green to allow for the slope.

Another tough Par 3 with a wide green that slopes from the back. A deep bunker to the right of the green could ruin your hole if you find it. A well hit tee shot will be needed to reach the green but a tricky putt is sure to follow.
We’ve saved one of the toughest holes for last; an uphill tee shot with a dog-leg left. There is a hoard of trees down the left side of the hole with an out of bounds area on the right. From the corner of the dog-leg the green is visible, inviting those brave enough to take it on and reach the putting surface in two. An ideal shot is to aim slightly left to avoid the water hazard on the right of the green. There is a good chance to finish your round on a birdie if you can take on this hole and win.
Pro’s Tip: Try to hit your tee shot towards the left of the green to use the contours of the land and avoid the extremely deep bunker right.

Driving Range & Practice Facilities Our practice facilities are located in front of the clubhouse, adjacent to the first tee. For those wishing to work on their short game, we offer two putting greens that have a direct view of the first tee on the course. Players are invited to warm up on our practice area and putting green before their rounds, however we now also boast a twelve bay driving range which is open to both members and the general public alike.
The range is open from 7am to dark on weekdays and from 6am to dark on the weekends.
