SPEAKERS Don Hicks
Donald A. Hicks is the founder, President and CEO of LLamasoft, Inc. Don is a supply chain industry visionary, specializing in strategy and technology issues and a highly sought after speaker and author. Over the last 20 years, he has personally consulted with and coached supply chain professionals at hundreds of companies around the world to optimize and improve their operations. Don has a BS in Systems Engineering from the US Military Academy at West Point, and an MBA from the University of Michigan.
Ranulph Fiennes
The Guinness Book of Records recognizes him as “the world’s greatest living explorer”. Ranulph Fiennes is the only man alive ever to have travelled around the Earth’s circumpolar surface (more people have been on the Moon!) His record-breaking expeditions include travel by riverboat, hovercraft, manhaul sledge, skidoo, Land Rover and ski... In 2000 he trekked across the Arctic alone. In 2003 he ran seven marathons on seven continents in seven days—just months after double bypass surgery. Since then he has continued to explore and transform his expeditions into a vehicle for humanitarian fundraising.
Burt Rutan
Aerospace entrepreneur and Virgin Galactic spacecraft designer Burt Rutan was described by Newsweek as “the man responsible for more innovations in modern aviation than any living engineer.” A bold visionary with a passion for the advancement of technology, he founded the aerospace research firm Scaled Composites and was named one of “the world’s 100 most influential people” by TIME. Rutan designed the legendary Voyager, the first aircraft to circle the world nonstop without refueling. He also created SpaceShipOne, the world’s first privately funded spacecraft, which won the $10 million Ansari X Prize, offered in an effort to spur the development of affordable space tourism.
James Burke
Science and technology historian, futurist, and author James Burke fascinates audiences with his unique perspective on the process of innovation and how it causes people and institutions to change. The Washington Post named him “one of the most intriguing minds in the Western world.” For over 40 years Burke has written, produced, directed, and hosted award-winning television series on the BBC, PBS, Discovery, and The Learning Channel. He created and hosted three seasons of the documentary series, Connections. He is also the best-selling author and has been a frequent contributor to Scientific American and TIME magazine.
Petra Nemcova
True beauty reveals itself in one who can find virtue in a life-shattering event. Sports Illustrated cover-girl Petra Nemcova was faced with such a challenge after enduring the tragic 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami that claimed the life of her beloved fiancé and shattered the supermodel’s pelvis. Proving beauty isn’t only skin deep, she has since rebounded to establish the Happy Hearts Fund (HHF), a non-profit organization dedicated to rebuilding children’s lives after natural disasters. HHF empowers children in disaster- affected areas by providing access to education and technology in a sustainable way. The initiatives are focused on bridging the gap between emergency post-disaster relief and fully restored infrastructure.
