One country-one story Heroes of fairy tales Language matters- short story conversation English- Greek What’s next?
Our school, which is called 1st EPAL of Thessaloniki, is situated in the Centre of Thessaloniki. Thessaloniki historically also known as Thessalonica or Salonika, is the secondlargest city in Greece and the capital of the periphery of Central Macedonia as well as the capital of the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia and Thrace. The Thessaloniki Metropolitan Area extends over an area of 1,455.62 km and its population in 2011 reached a total of 1,006,730 inhabitants. Thessaloniki is the second major economic, industrial, commercial and political center of Greece, and a major transportation hub for the rest of southeastern Europe; its commercial port is also of great importance for Greece and the southeastern European hinterland. Our school is a Vocational Senior High School that specializes in technical subjects. The subjects are distinguished into general knowledge, theoretical vocational education, mixed subjects and subjects with two or more cognitive objects. The number of the students is about 260 and the number of teachers is about 39. Our pupils attend many lessons in different Laboratories, according to the specialization they have chosen. The Sections of Specialties we have in that grade are the following: 1. Mechanical, 2. Computer Science (informatics), 3. Economy and Administration (and Health and Welfare, only for this year according to a new Law). After graduation our students acquire two diplomas: The first is a certificate of their special Vocational knowledge/training and the Specialty they have attended. The second one is a high school diploma (apolitirio) of the same value as that of the Senior High School and they have the same opportunities to enter University Higher Education, participating in National Examinations. Many pupils come from the suburbs of Thessaloniki. In the School there is a very large percentage of foreign students who are immigrants from Albania, Russia, Romania, Georgia and Armenia. The social and economic background of the families is middle to low and the students do not often get the chance to travel and consequently visit different countries and discover new cultures. But thanks to various European programs our students start entering into European life, they exchange ideas, they become familiar with other cultures and customs, they share common problems and experiences realizing that the things that bring them together are more than those that set them apart. Finally, they are happy and confident to know that they can manage to communicate and exchange opinions using other foreign languages like English. This multilateral partnership is a great opportunity for our students to widen their points of view, understand different cultures and acquire a European perspective in education. 1 .

was full of technical sessions. In the evening, after an exhausting and tiring day we all enjoyed a beautiful Greek night accompanied by live music and delicious food. We all discovered Thessaloniki during our third day in this city when the hosts arranged for us a cultural visit to the historical places including visits to the White Tower ( which is probably the most recognizable spot in Thessaloniki ) as well as to the Byzantine and Archaeological Museum where the delegations found out important aspects of life during the Byzantine period. After that, the teams returned to school where students had to finish their digital stories. In the evening, the Greek team made us all a surprise by putting in scene a wonderful show. The Greek students prepared traditional dances from all the countries involved in the project and they managed very well. Day four. Early morning. The hotel lobby. The delegations were waiting impatiently for the bus to come. Destination? young prince who is identified as Alexander IV, and a cist grave.
On the first day, the international team was welcomed at school by the Greek teachers and they presented the school to the delegations. Besides that, the first day also started with a workshop. The students were divided into two groups: one coordinated by Gulsum Hatice Unsal and the other by Roberto Rivolta. Therefore, the technical sessions were offered by the two who helped the students understand how to create their digital stories. The technical support meaning the computers, the Windows Live Movie Maker programs were put at disposal by the Greek team. There were some tehnical issues with the computeres ( not all the compteers had instaled the new version of WLMM) but the teams managed to create perfect conditions for students. During that day, there were performed several ice-breakers by Gulsum Hatice Unsal and Roberto Rivolta, each with his own group students. In the afternoon, students had to speak about the most important decision in their lives as well as about a personal object. This opened their horizons and gave them the opportunity to get to know each other better. The second day started with energizers performed by the Turkish, Italian and Romanian teams with the same groups of students. The energizers were absolutely needed given the fact that the whole day
Vergina and Edessa. 75 km away from Thessaloniki, Vergina offered us the Museum of the Royal Tombs of Aigai. Of particular note are the tombs of the royal dynasty, most notably King Philip II and a young prince who is identified as Alexander IV, and a cist grave. After a lesson of history, we got back on road. Next destination? Edessa and more precisely the waterfalls. Only one hour drive from Thessaloniki, we witnessed some natural waterfalls, breathtakingly beautiful, a place one must visit. The delegations had lunch there and afterwards returned in Thessaloniki and back to the digital stories. At school, all the students presented their digital stories in a very relaxed manner and they all strengthened their friendships. The mobility in Greece was full of amazing moments and the Greek team, teachers and students alike, made their best to help the delegations with anything they needed. And not to mention the city, Thessaloniki, which welcomed us, the delegations, with all its enduring symbols of a glorious history.

In every issue of this newsletter we invite you to make an imaginary trip in European literature and to discover a story / legend or different myths from our countries...
One country- one story....
Dear friends, We were very pleased to receive the invitation in which we had to share with you one of the most beautiful stories in Italian literature. As you well know, Italian literature abounds in various and diverse stories, each endowed with its own charm but we chose one story that we are sure it represents the core of every child in this world: Pinocchio.
Once upon a time, there lived an old carpenter, named Geppetto. One day, he carved a puppet in the shape of a little boy and named him Pinocchio. «How I wish this was real!» he said. A kind fairy who was passing by heard Geppetto’s words. That night, she sprinkled some magic dust on the puppet and brought Pinocchio to life. «But remember ,» she told the boy, «if you want to be a real boy, you must always be good and make your father, Geppetto, proud». Geppetto loved Pinocchio dearly. He bought books for Pinocchio and sent him to school so that he would become a very clever boy But Pinocchio was quite naughty. He and his friends used to skip school to play and have fun all the time. When Geppetto found out, he was very angry. «Did you miss school?» he asked. Naughty Pinocchio refused to tell the truth. «No father , I was at school all day!» he lied. Immediately, his wodden nose started to grow long! «Are you telling a lie?» Geppetto asked with a frown. «No father !» he replied and his nose grew longer again. In fact, every time Pinocchio told a lie, his nose became longer and longer. Every time Geppetto’s friend, the woodpecker, had to peck the boy’s nose to its actual size. And every time Pinocchio used to promise to be a good boy next time. But Pinocchio soon forgot his promises. He thought, «School is no fun at all. I don’t want to study anymore. I want to have great adventures!» So, Pinocchio and his friends ran away from home and joined a circus. However, Pinocchio soon realized that circus life was not fun at all. He worked all day and he missed Geppetto terribly. Plus, because he had stopped going to school, two large donkey ears grew on his head. Then one day, he heard terrible news. Geppetto, who had been searching everywhere for his son, had been swallowed up by a huge whale! Immediately, Pinocchio set off to try to save his father. Finally, Pinocchio found the whale. But as soon as the whale saw him, it swallowed him up as well! Inside the whale’s belly, there was Geppetto! How happy they were to see each other! «I have a plan to get out,» said Pinocchio, and began tickling the whale’s stomach. As soon as the whale opened its mouth and gave a big sneeze, Pinocchio and Geppetto were shot out! Pinocchio and Geppetto finally reached home safely. The fairy was so pleased with Pinocchio’s bravery that she decided to make him into a real boy with flesh and blood. From that day, he was a very good boy who never missed school again, and the father and son lived happily ever after.

The story of Greek Mobility made by French students “We were three French students to go to Thessaloniki on February 23rd at 7 o’clock. We made two stopovers before arriving at Makedonia Airport; Paris and Belgrade. We took a taxi and then we settled down at Imperial Hotel and met other students. We were happy to see them again. The second day, everybody was here. We went to the school and visited it. Greek students were very pleasant. We discovered Greek food. After the visit we made Icebreaker games to know everybody who was participating to the project, it was very funny. At the end of the afternoon we had a free time to discover the city. The third day, we started to work in two groups with movie maker. At the beginning it was a little bit difficult but then we were able to use it. On the fourth day, we went to visit the city in a bus, a museum and The Blood Tower. At the end of the afternoon we attended to a show by Greek students, it was very cool. On the fifth day we visited Alexander the Great’s grave, it was far from Thessaloniki. Before eating, we visited a waterfall ; it was very impressive. When we came back to school we saw all Digital stories of each student, we could learn things on other students. After this, it was a big free time to go shopping and we went to the restaurant . The next day everybody left one after the other, we were sad that the trip was finished. We were at the airport with Romanians and we took our planes with two stopovers : Vienna, Dusseldorf. “
