1. FINAL DEGREE PROJECT + ENABLING MASTER


Almería (España)

1.LABPOSIDONIA

(2015/2016) It is a laboratory capable of repopulating and reactivating the POSIDONIA marine plant. The objective of the project is to achieve natural benefits, not harming the environment. Their impact is almost nil on the ecosystem. The idea of flotage does not block the deposition of the plant on the coast, nor does it break the sea currents. Neither does it disclose any kind of harmful material or waste for the seabed. To do this, the hull, in contact with the sea, is lined with wood. The architecture is at the service of nature. In addition, the structure is recyclable for other environments and other objectives not related to Posidonia.

So, it has a temporary vocation, ceasing to be a static architecture, giving possibility of transfer to other points after fulfilling its function. (In the case of Almeria, when the stable population of posidonia meadows is in their adult size, from 5 to 10 years). Although this architecture is ephemeral, its symbolism makes it ends up staying in time. For the study of the species in its maximum proximity, the ideal placement is in the sea, on the prairies themselves. Users work “in situ” at the starting point, where they observe the growth and regeneration of Posidonia, from the architecture itself. Results are achieved faster and lower travel expenses.






MODEL The model is one of the most significant elements of the project, reaching up to 40 for the process, through material changes, placement, etc. A PROTOTYPE is created at 1:10 scale. The material is sectioned by means of a laser cutter, resulting in a total of 1447 pieces. The ribs are made by joining 3 pieces of poplar plywood 7 mm each. Once the portals have been obtained, a perimetral beam is made where the structure rests. Those pieces are balsa wood, to make it lighter. It is built in the same order in which it should be built in reality. One side is closed to test the finish of the final facade.

PROJECTS AND COLLABORATIONS IN ARCHITECTURE STUDIES


1.BALER HOSPITAL Baler (Philippines) (2015/2017) Caza (Carlos Arnaiz Architects) Baler Hospital combines the functions of a general hospital and a trauma center at a rural scale. Our design imagines both a pragmatic and a futuristic solution to the challenge of such specialized and exacting program. The luscious exterior landscape permeates the facility through a series of undulating canopies that creates an architectural figure in an open field of green. The hospital’s perimeter portico acts as a strong iconic edge that holds together a vast range of functional difference while still producing a sense of legibility for the user. The gardens fill the hospital with ample light and greenery, connecting patients and staff with the outside in a multitude of ways.



2. SUPREME COURT MANILA Manila (Philippines) (2016/ -) Caza (Carlos Arnaiz Architects) International competition for the Supreme Court of Manila in the Philippines. This proyect moved to the last round among the top five ranked projects. Identity, Our design draws inspiration from this rich building tradition by modernizing the delicate facade patterns of the Filipino home and evolving a new local vernacular that responds to the pressures of the local climate at the scale of a civic institution. 3.INSTITUT D’URBANISME ET DE GEOGRAPHIE ALPINE Grenoble (Francia) (2010/2016) Guyard Bregman Architectes Urbanistes This is an extension to the ZAC Vigny Musset block, 2004, of a U-shaped building of the two Institutes of Alpine. Its rectangular, long and narrow plant (66m x 11m) creates a compact building in one piece. Thus, the main facade of 66m is dressed with 53 concrete ribs of 14 m high each, giving order and monumentality to the building, taken in counterpoint with the surrounding architecture. In the interior, the distribution of the classrooms and laboratories is on the first floor, while the researchers and their offices are divided in the second. At the ends of the building are placed the communication cores, by two arranged stairs. The ribs oriented at an angle of 60 ° to the facades, generate a cantilever that protects of the radiation of the sun. The forge measures 35m x 3.50m x 0.60m, formed by alveolar slabs. The ribs weigh 13 tons. In the interior, the amphitheater has capacity for 119 locations. The whole building is a tribute to the concrete with respect to the tradition of Grenoble.


4.MEDIATHEQUE ET CENTRE DE LA NATURE MONTAGNARDE Sallanches (Francia) (2010/2016) Guyard Bregman Architectes Urbanistes It is a structure of metal frame concrete on “blocks” covering 2090m² distributed in reading rooms. The roof of the plant is cut by a conical canopy that overlooks the needles of Warens and Sallanches. It follows the natural slope in the organization of itself on two levels of the same level, which translates the roof by building a second floor. The low and high reading rooms are connected by a monumental staircase that combines in a single volume, encompassing the largest building. All this in the center of the nature of the mountain.

Has a commercial purpose. It also has a cafeteria. Has a curved structure, expressed in 3 circumscribed circumferences. The facade is an exploded in 3d, highlighted by its yellow tonality to represent the vivid image of the oil.

8. PLAZA DE TOROS Hainan (China) (2014 / - ) One Net One Architecture and Design Network

Bullring: The intention is to be the icon of the project. Iconic place. A design is proposed where the square is attached to a comb, so its cover is inclined. It is possible to be covered as a requirement of the program. The program plan inserts an exit from a nearby stable until, followed by a road, ending in the bullring, simulating a passage of San Fermin, where there are elevations. In them people can visualize the step and take photos.



7. WINE BUILDING Hainan (China) (2014 / - ) One Net One Architecture and Design Network

Wine building: It has a 4d cinema, a coffee shop and a point of sale of the national product. The building simulates a glass of wine, which when turned is oxygenated, generating a circular band in which that wine is mounted. From this circular layer 2 cloths and 2 openings, the outlet and the entrance. Its structure is complex. Its volume is 4 ellipses rotated of 15 cm, that are elevated to 3 meters of each other. Thanks to the stable temperature of its location, the materials of the facade are textiles.

PROJECTS IN THE SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE


AlmerĂ­a (Madrid)

1. RESEARCH CENTER

(2014 / 2015 ) Final Project degree. It deals with an architectural construction destined to the study and investigation both geological and geomorphological terrestrial, like Oceanography or marine oceanology; La Posidonia. In addition to this, it is used to carry out projects based on environmental and ecological sciences, their progress and their maintenance. After examining and analyzing various geographical areas, it was decided to locate the project in the Desert of Almeria, due to its ideal situation for carrying out the studies. In this way, it would increase the possibility of achieving objectives, such as improving water quality in the Mediterranean by increasing the level of oxygen relative to the water level.

The building is structured and conformed by two sheets of reinforced concrete of 50cm. The lower part of the building configuration would accommodate the parking lot. Inside, the program establishes a conference room, and the necessary studies and laboratories for posidonia. In the northern part of the project there would be a recycling plant for the reuse of posidonia after its exploitation and use. The entrance and access to the building is nothing more than a linear road. Decision taken to be able to meet the objective of causing the least environmental impact on the flora and fauna of the area. The central structure, which is above sea level, is a floating device for the collection of plants and their study. Below it, and already under the sea level, the orchards of Posidonia will be located, where it is cultivated, experimented and later harvested.



2. PEAU ET PROUE Lyon (France) (2014)

This is a land project. The first platform is the place that is revealed to our eyes. In front is the river SaĂ´ne. The power generated in the river, which reaches Lyon, is used to generate a river public transport (Vaporetto). This is how the place will have to be accessible both by land and by water. On a more restricted scale, the building has the will to approach the river with an organic gesture, both quantum and vegetal. In the second platform the program generates a link between the existing and the constructed. A perimeter moat is created that connects with the river. The program proposes three complementary elements: a gymnasium, a library and a concert hall, associated with the program of residence of students and offices, already existing. The third platform is the analytical synthesis that crosses the program with a vegetal part, and connects the building, nature and the city.





3. CHEZ MOI Lyon (France)

(2013)

This is for Alzheimer’s patients where the inhabitants live at home and not as if it were a hospital. We want to respect the autonomy and freedom of the patient as much as possible. The project respects details as daily as growing your own garden in the garden or cooking always under your supervision. In the inner courtyard provides light to the building, in this way, the inhabitants can orient themselves perfectly in it. The rooms are separated from the common areas and each entrance is fully customizable so that each inhabitant can more easily recognize his own entrance.

4. OKPA Matadero Pozuelo (Madrid) (2013)

The project based on the rehabilitation of a former slaughterhouse, of which 70% of the original structure is maintained. The idea is to generate 2 places to help oxygenate flows between buildings. In such a way that a hybrid program is proposed that solves the change Topographic with interior circulations, accentuating the access to each building with the construction of cantilevers. The structure is covered by a metallic skin, fitting in the most private programs.



5. PLAYFLOWS Pozuelo (Madrid) (2012)

It is part of a set of designs for the bike lane located in Pozuelo de Alarcรณn. The project consists of three proposals that are associated with the bike lane: a park,a topography and a leisure space, provided and equipped with urban gardens. The idea is that the bike path transposes each of the proposals, rising between oak trees that are also equipped with two viewpoints



6. NO CHLORINE Vlaardingen (Holland) (2012) Project based on boosting the use of the channels by its purification and the one of the near lake. The objective is to generate different nautical circuits that also have adequate and suitable water for the bathroom. The location comprises a park that divides the industrial area with the village of Vlaardingen. The idea is to generate a pedagogical circuit between the different swimming pools, the last being for public use




7. NATUREFLOWS Amsterdam (Holland) (2012) This project aims to reactivate the Rotterdam canals as an urban landscape element, so that the inhabitants of the area eliminate the visual limit between the canal and the streets. The approach is developed at the edges of the canal, where different sport, leisure, cultural and social activities will be carried out, using the swimming pool, organizing events and green spaces that can be used.


8. NETTING TOWER Madrid Rio (2012) The main objective of this project is to become an icon of reference of the well-known park of “Madrid river�, since it is communicated through a channel to the Manzanares river. The building contains a private housing program and a commercial program directed to the public. The base develops a triple height and is accessed through skin and artificial topography.



9. AXES BETWEEN TREES Ufv Pozuelo (Madrid) (2011)

The idea of the project tries to resemble itself and is related to the connections generated by the neurons when deploying its axons. It is a question of achieving the union between the students and the university, which is reflected in the connection flows, where the main ones are strategically connected and taking into account physical and visual aspects, with the areas of greater influx of students of the college. The goal is to make it a campus benchmark. The program is organized by means of an acoustic gradient, which also has the privacy of the pedestrians, growing in height as we enter the project. The location is ideal for its extensive vegetation, which also has to be preserved and preserved, hence the organic implementation of the project. The permeability that exists at the beginning of the project diminishes the reason for the program. Culminating this one, with a route between the trees to quota +1.

This brings out another point of different experience since what is projected is built (such as materials worked, steel, IPN beams, welding and metal connections)
