crosset house sited in the foothills of the appalachian mountains in southern ohio, this single family residence floats over the incredible nature with commanding views of the mary crosset memorial farm. the intent was to designed an extremely restrained home both in scale and cost, that intimately embraces the surrounding landscape. the diagram is quite simple, a single mass clad in local wood supports the pitched roof that overhangs over the whole project. a circulation spine defines the progression of the different spaces, from private rooms to public and social living spaces, creating a highly efficient plan. the surrounding deck provides an inviting shaded exterior space for both public and private rooms. with the walls retracted from the edge of roof and deck, the home takes on the character of two horizontal lines that quietly embrace the stunning natural context, while providing the homeowners an environment that blurs the line between interior and exterior.

tiny house The design process of the Tiny house included many studies related to the essential living spaces and being critical about what was really needed. This process led to the crucial decision of using only one shipping container to house all essential indoor spaces like sleeping, restrooms and kitchen. The essence of the ‘living area’, however, is carried on to the extended deck, that translates to a spectacular ‘viewing space’, in continuous interaction with the prairie, which makes the space ‘alive’ in the true sense. The design was also driven by the constraints of time and money. It was imperative to complete the project within stipulated time, as well as on almost a zero budget, surviving mostly on generous donations by individual donors and some sponsors. Thus, the unit is designed to be as compact as possible with maximum functionality. It reuses materials as a sustainability measure, like the shipping container and materials from a previous structure on the site, employed as exterior cladding for roof and walls. The result is a tiny ‘butterfly’ house that now sits quietly watching and enjoying the Kamama Prairie.

casa del bosque From its conception, the Casa del Bosque was meant to be a home for the family to retreat from the day to day and merge into the natural landscape that surrounds the site. The building is laid out to maximize the views from the house as well as create unique outdoor spaces for intimate and social uses. As one enters the house, a sense of moving through a forest can be experienced through the moves in the architecture and light that fills the spaces with its warm embrace. The development was research driven, stressing the analysis on how different architects approached circulation and formation of the spaces in their projects. The most interesting contribution with this project is that we managed to develop a private and a public path for the project, kept one from the other. It was a pleasant project along the entire process; the client was always open to our ideas, the design team was able to debate the many different proposals and agreeing on one without much arguments, the contractor was prompt with RFIs and full of useful advices. The schematic design came really naturally right after the clients settled on one of the proposed schemes, which was not the preferred idea among the group, but still became a project we came to love. 36

villa pununo situated in ocoa’s magnificient mountain system, villa pununo was envisioned to be a a lookout point to enjoy the amazing vistas and beauty of the site. this concept organizes the progression of spaces in a follie like structure, where private spaces are kept in the back for rest and retreat, while the social and living spaces enjoy the lavish views in both main level and upper level. originally, the program consisted of two bedrooms, a living and dining area, and an upper open level as a lookout point. the client got so excited about the place that expanded the program three times. since the budget remained the same, the materiality and overall construction craft and detailing suffered big time. hard blow for my first project, and a big lesson on stablishing a proper contract and espectations in first place.
