The Power of Local - Leadership Vision

01 Board Hello everyone, The Power of Local Board welcomes you to the vision of the academic team! We are so happy to bring you our vision. The theme of the session will feature strongly in the academic dimension: the chairpersons will engage with topics that are relevant to the local level. Everyone is invited to think not only about the locale of the conference, but the local environment that they themselves are in. Part of your local environment is the people around you--and we believe strongly in the power of people. We also believe in the power of learning, developing, collaborating, and exchanging; the pillars of our Board vision.

Learning We want each member of our team to learn. This means learning about new topics and gaining an understanding of multiple contemporary European topics and how the EU acts in these areas. It also means learning how different people work, how to train them and be trained by them, and how to work in a team environment. We want to encourage chairs to take initiative and have their personal projects, if they wish, so that they can learn by doing.

Developing We want all of our chairpersons to try new things, learn something about themselves, and challenge themselves--not because we tell them to, but because they feel comfortable enough to do so. We want to create an environment in which you feel you can try a new method in chairing, as well as safely make mistakes and learn from them. Only then can you evaluate your own performance and learn what things you want to improve in the future. In the end, we want you to be empowered in your abilities and inspired to try new things, so that you gain confidence and trust in yourself.

Collaborating We want our team to foster inclusion and openness. Each chairperson should feel like they belong to the team. By being part of the team you can hear others’ stories, give and receive feedback from others throughout the (pre-)session work, and enrich your perspectives thanks to them. We want everyone to walk away from the session having gained new friends and memories that they will cherish.

Exchanging Although we believe in the power of local, we also believe in the power of intercultural exchanges. We want you to get to know someone from a different country, meet people from different cultures, and learn something new about the host country and city of the session: Belgrade, Serbia! Does this inspire you? Let us know in your application! Hugs, The Board

02 Orga Hey guys, The Power of Local is going to be a conference like no other, and here’s why: REAL IMPACT! The EYP is finally going to affect the local environment and make a real change for not just the participants of the conference, but everyone adjacent. Local businesses, products, venues and, of course, the local people are going to take center stage and enrich the session in innovative ways the network hadn’t witnessed before, and each of the officials’ teams is going to contribute. Speaking more on behalf of the organising team, the entirety of the vision stands on these 3 pillars:

Comfort without Compliance Stress that can make you feel purposeless and alone is the biggest enemy of doing EYP. It’s important to remember that this is just a hobby; no one is going to get hurt if things don’t go perfectly; and we do everything out of love. But that love also requires some sacrifices, so in emergencies, it’s important to be efficient and to solve every problem with teamwork and compassion.

Theme without Tradition “Local” is seemingly a simple word. At this session, it entails so much more. However, if you think that this will be a traditional Serbian session, excluding the rest of Europe, you are wrong. This session will celebrate all things local Europewide, and we will put amazing effort into including as much stories as we can collect from all over! Local innovation leaves little room for tradition.

Involvement without Intrusion None of this can be achieved with the organising team alone. The entire officials’ team needs to work together, and for that - everyone needs to be involved and introduced to others’ work. This can never and in no way mean that we have a right to be in each other’s business. Each person is here for a reason, and we have a common goal, but different ways of achieving it. That’s about it, now go write that app! <3 We can’t wait to meet you! Best, The Core Orga team

03 Media Hellooooo and welcome to my vision for The Power of Local !! I’m super happy that you’re taking the time to read this and I hope that by the end, you’ll be motivated to apply to join me in Belgrade this August. My vision will be split into two sections; first my ideas for the general media team culture, followed by what I think the role of the Media Team at the power of local should be.

Media Team Culture - I would like to implement a flat hierarchy within the media team so everyone’s contribution is valued and there is no sense that the leadership is superior to other officials, - Open, energetic and collaborative to encourage the sharing of ideas and to work together on projects, - Creative ownership and agency to come up with and shape your own projects, - Trust in your ability to manage your own time and meet agreed deadlines, - Priority on welfare and looking after ourselves to avoid overwork, unnecessary stress, and burnout. I see my role and responsibilities as Editor to primarily be there to provide support and feedback on media team members’ ideas and execution of their projects, as well as managing the work and output schedule of the team as a whole.

How I See The Role Of The Media Team At The Power Of Local - To produce content for the delegates, officials and other EYP stakeholders and wider audiences to engage with and enjoy. This includes your standard pretty photo albums, profile pictures and session videos as well as more creative projects that engage with the session theme and explore topics with wider European and local relevance. Output can be distributed across a variety of platforms, from Facebook to Instagram. We might even be creating our very own session website where all the media team’s work will be uploaded to! - Close collaboration between the Media and Chairs team throughout the session. Each media team member will be allocated a committee they are responsible for documenting. Media team members will work closely with their allocated Chairperson before the session to produce interesting academic primers on the topics, as well as becoming an integrated part of the committee during the session itself. For instance, Media Team members will be encouraged (but not forced) to join in with committee teambuilding activities and to generally be on hand to support the chairperson with anything. This could involve running a quick energiser with the committee whilst the chairperson takes a break for example. - For the media team to ultimately have fun and contribute to a positive session atmosphere! I don’t want an overworked, stressed and burnt out media team rushing to finish the hundreds of projects they had planned as it’s always better to have quality over quantity. I want the media team to have a good work-fun balance during the session so they can actually enjoy it in the moment and not just be behind a camera lens or laptop screen for the whole time.

04 Jury Hello Everyone! Ever wondered what my vision would be for the Power of Local? Well, have a look! I envision the Power of Local to be a session of comfort, security and fun. Keeping the session theme in mind, I want to empower the jury team and all participants in an environment where they can be free to express themselves, feel comfortable and at home to embrace the power of local. The Jury has the potential to influence the next generation of EYP’ers . Any delegate could be the next NC President 5 years from now and it’s up to us to find them. We work at our best when we are at ease, creating an atmosphere where we are comfortable in, will not only help us get the most out of each other but also reflect back on all participants. Let’s hope that we can inspire and influence the next generation of EYP, and unlock the potential in every participant. The relations within the Jury team will be open, positive and honest. We’re a small team that has to rely on each other in order to achieve our goals and be successful. I know that the jury team can be far removed from session elements but that doesn’t have to be the case. I want to build a team that is open, approachable and integrated in the officials team, where enjoyment is the priority. “Life is a party but you have to put up the decorations” and that is what we hope to achieve with the power of local. Does that sound like a plan? Then let us know with your application!
