Who am I? My name is Lukas Zitterer and I am 24 years old. I was born in Villach, Austria. There I also went to school. During my time in HTL-Villach, I firstly experienced architecture at an internship by lechner-lechner-schallhammerArchitects in Salzburg. After school I moved to Graz and did my bachelor in architecture at the technical university. Currently, I am in the Erasmus exchange program at Politecnico di Milano. To describe myself, I want to say that I am a curious person who loves knowing new people and foreign cultures. I like travelling around and seeing new things. In my freetime I play the trumpet, do some sports and woodcarving. Before going back to Austria and finishing university, I am searching for another exciting and challenging internship.

Architectural Design
Sportacademy Hartberg The result of urban planning and processing of the former farmyard Hartberg shows a dominant longitudinal building, which comes into appearance by its visible primary structure of steel. It includes lecture halls, seminar rooms, as well as offices, public areas and learning spaces. The lower part houses the „Edelweiss house“ with a concert hall and canteen. The eventrooms function independently and can therefore be used separately from the Academy. At the east of the school is a U-shaped building, with a small student residence in the ground and first floor and a library in the basement. In total, the arrangement of the buildings creates a place to stay between school and home. It also invites passengers to enter the area, not only students of the Academy. 2014

Generation Residence The construction site is located in Gries, which is a very multicultural and diverse place in Graz. In the last few years more and more local people moved away, because of the increasing numbers of foreigners. The concept works with people who are unprejudiced and open for innovations. A cafĂŠ, a restaurant as well as a little library are placed in the ground floor. The cafĂŠ is run by the residents themselves or by external staffs. This part of the building is designed to be transparent to allow an insight into the courtyard while separating the public sector from the private sector. On the upper floors there are apartments with 1 to 5 rooms that can accommodate 44 persons. They have an open floor plan, but the intimacy increases from the walkways in the south to the street in the north. The individual rooms are separated by folding walls. The open spaces promote the together living and enable a good exposure in depth. All apartments are barrier-free and easy to adapt, because there are no supporting walls in the apartments. All openings to the street have little balconies, which are greened to change the appearance of the facade seasonally. The walkway has a width of 3 meters and can be shared by the apartments, as they can be opened completely. There are also three roof terraces, which can be used for community purposes. 2015 Context

Supermarket The supermarket is placed along the main road of Spielberg and is also accessible via the bike path from the opposite side. The bike path leads through the building and connects the eastern and the western entrances. The delivery is in the north of the building and is connected to the warehouse of the supermarket. The building, with the dimensions of 65x50 meters, consists of 12 trusses with different lengths that form the support structure. The trusses are moved to the outside and carry at their lower chords the building envelope consisting of metal and glass fields. On their top chords, shading elements are installed that also serve as building stiffening. They are planted to form a unit with the parking lot. Its design is a visual continuation of the supermarket concept and forms, so to speak, its sixth facade. The metal and glass panels reach alternately over the entire width of the building and provide some zoned of indoor and outdoor spaces. The sixth facade is also involved in garden design, where you can pick vegetables or fruit yourself. The covered access area leads into the market and provides a bistro and also a zone free of consumption for the cyclists. 2015

Schaubühne Graz During the long history of the theater, there have been a lot of different types of the building and site. At the beginning, there were the open amphitheaters and later on the very representative buildings. However, theaters have always been a place of social getting-together, irrespective of their outer appearance.
The building itself is compact and cubicalshaped. Because of its height, most of the square and also the flower pavilion of the 19th century could be preserved. The theater opens toward the square in form of the Café / Foyer and gives view to the representative corkscrew stairs, which are leading to the hall. The stairs are not only a functional element, but they are also the connecting part between the inside and outside. The otherwise closed facade is a strong contrast and emphasizes the public area. The hall is a closed room made of wood and dark textiles. The central element is the lighting sky, formed by lights that are hanging from the ceiling. This makes the room look more compact, but still provides the possibility of seeing the whole height of the room. The private areas are placed in the second and third floor with a central atrium. The vertical finish is marked by a rooftop terrace, inspired by the classic theater that frames the sky and can be used to launch events. 2016

The construction site of this theater is in the city center of Graz, close to the Jakominiplatz and the „Eisernen Tor“. Despite the central position it is a less present place in the city. The concept tries to work with the hidden qualities of the site, such as the view to the clock tower, and also involves the square in front of the building.

Market Kadikรถy The design for the new market at the harbor of Kadikรถy is consisting of eight covering roofs with the shape of voronoi-cells. In planview the roofs are arranged semicircular and open to the sea. The roofs have an average diameter of 20 meters and are about 5 meters high. In the center of each construction, a pylon is placed on which the surfaces are suspended. The horizontal closure is made with laminated safety glass that changes the color in some parts of the cells. The shape of the market stands follows the shape of the roofs. In the center of the market, a green space is placed that also provides place to sit and relax. The access to the area is enabled from every direction, because of the open construction. 2014

House of music Starting point of this project was the utilization of a building gap in the city center of Graz. Based on the will not to obstruct the courtyard completely, the idea of a solitary room in the north of the construction area emerged. This resulted in a design consisting of four individual towers. Due to the splitlevels, these towers appear in different heights, which additionally contributes to a dispersing of the concept. 2015

Parametric Design
M_osquito This project was the result of a workshop to get first experiences with Grasshopper and its bending tools. Based on a physical template, we created a selfsupporting parametric model. This model was then set into an architectural context. 2014

J_ellyfish With the knowledge collected in the former project we designed a lampshade by using the same tools. We made a paper prototype firstly and the parametric model for the final design. The result was manufactured by lasercutting and build together with metal rivets.

Facade panels Inspired by the depiction of pixels and their implementation in grid cells, this design was developed. Thanks to parametric computer softwares, a digital model was created. Later this model was fabricated by lasercutting.

The base of 70x70 cm was divided into 196 fields, forming a pattern of pixels. Afterwards, the shape of the three-dimensional pixels was created. They represent four-sided pyramids with rounded edges and cutted tops. These pixels were placed randomly on the base area, where their number is increasing from one edge to the other. 2015

Based on the former work „ A Pixel is not a Square“ these three dimensional object was created. It consists of quadratic elements, which are placed on an area of 70x100 cm. Their heights are representing the profile of a wave. The whole structure was mirrored and both parts were connected. As you can see on the pictures, light can enter through the openings of the pixels, thus intensifing the light-shadow play.

The constant fear of tilting On the 9th of August 1173, Bonanno had a marvelous idea, which represented the cornerstone of my construction. I should become the highlight of the Piazza dei Miracoli, with a design that made me unique among all the other towers. After a while, I realized that something was going terribly wrong underneath me. It felt like I was losing ground and there was no way to stop this. The reason for this was probably the subsoil that could not stand my weight. In the course of time, it was my uncommon deformity rather than my shape that made me famous. However, I have to live with the constant fear of losing balance and tilting over eventually. 2015
