LOGBOOK ENTRY Week 7! Luke Adamson!
CLASSROOM ACTIVITY SITE VISIT! This week, instead of participating in a class tutorial, we had a site visit to the new extension of the Royal Melbourne Hospital. This is a unique construction as it is being completed on top of an existing structure, while the areas below are still being used by patients.! Below are some notes taken after a tour of the site by Don from Grocon PCL.!

The build started 2 years ago and is expected to be a 4 year project with an overall budget of 120 million dollars.! The crane loses a lot of operation time. This is because the hospital is still operational so the helicopter pad needs to be accessed. While that is happening the crane must be shut down.!
! ! The operating theatres had to be kept going through construction.! ! ! -

A new lift core had to be constructed through 3 floors and into the basement. There was 26 piles driven into the ground for foundation.!
! ! There was still a live plant area servicing the hospital! ! ! -

The build would be shorter if it was a new build rather than an extension.!
The tower crane is anchored down 2 floors below.!
