NEWEST TECHNOLOGY AT JTS Speaking of Mardi Gras, we would like to introduce you to our newest JTS family member. Bobby Ingram was born and raised in Louisiana and attended watchmaker school in Natchitoches, Louisiana, in the eighties. After serving in the Air Force during the Gulf War, Bobby returned to working as a full time watchmaker in 1992. He worked for Rolex Watch Company in Dallas, Texas, for five years before finding a home here at Jewelers Trade Shop. Besides loving working at JTS, Bobby enjoys hunting, fishing, hiking and exploring outdoors with his family. It is great to have Bobby here at JTS along with the newest, most innovative watchmaking technology. Now we are able to estimate, repair, replace parts (if needed), and refinish any Rolex watch within one week. Having a Rolex certified watchmaker on premises not only means we can order all parts directly from Rolex, it eliminates the need to mail off watches to Rolex. This saves time and expense. So come on by, meet Bobby, and get a tour of his workshop. Bobby Ingram

The Goldfisher

Journey Jeweled Octopus of the

I recently took a little boat trip aboard “The Goldfisher” from Miami to the Bahamas in search of some rare pink conch pearls. It was strictly business however, not a fun vacation. The weather was beautiful, calm with a slight breeze and a following sea. We arrived at Cat Cay ahead of schedule. But just south of Bimini, we came up on the “Sapona,” a rusty shipwreck in 20-foot-deep crystal-clear waters. At 270-feet long, it was built by Henry Ford in 1911. It served in World War I, was used by rum runners during the prohibition, and was a private nightclub for drinking and partying until 1920 when a hurricane sunk it between Bimini and Cat Cay. Although I was on a mission and in

a hurry to get to Bimini to meet with conch fisherman to look at conch

pearls, my crew (my wife) wanted to snorkel the shipwreck. I told her we 4

didn’t have time. She said, “Uh huh.” Wow, you should have seen how beautiful it was. We saw schools of barracuda, snapper, triggerfish and so many colorful reef fish. I didn’t enjoy it. I was here to work. It was too late to meet my conch connection, so we headed to Cat Cay for the night. The next morning I was determined to go directly to the conch shack on Bimini and find some pearls. But on the way, I ran into a local Bahamian fisherman who offered to show me where the lobster lived.

The "bidness"

Then he said, “Hey mon, you need sum fish to go with dat lobsta.” I told him no, I had work to do. Well, we ended up catching a tub full of yellow tail snapper and a few nice triggerfish. Once again, it was too late to do business. Back at Cat Cay the chef took our catch and cooked us a feast. But I didn’t’ really enjoy it or have any fun. I was there to work. The next morning I put my foot down and told the crew (wife), “No fun today, I have to work.” “Uh huh!” We dined on conch salad, fritters, and Kalik beer at Ebbie’s Conch Shack for lunch. We drank with the local conch fisherman until the sun was about to set. And then we finally did “bidness”. Sitting out on the dock with my new friends, I bought a couple hundred carats of nice conch pearls. My crew thought I’d lost my mind, which was nothing

new. She blamed it on too many Bahamian beers. I told her I had them right where I wanted them. “Uh-huh!” We headed back to Cat Cay for another great Bahamian dinner. When I went to pay for our fabulous meal, I said, “Wow somebody stole all my money!” “Uh-huh.” Well, it was okay. I had no money, but I had plenty of nice pink conch pearls. Arriving back in Miami I asked the crew if she wanted to turn around and go back to the islands. “Uh-huh” So I picked out one of the nicest pearls I’ve seen. A very fine 8-carat oval shaped, good dark pink color, no blemishes and very nice flash effect. I immediately knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. As you can probably tell, I put much more thought into the designing of it than I did drawing it. I decided on 18k white gold for the

head and tentacles with yellow gold bezels for eyes and the diamond suction cups. I also thought that intense green emeralds would be a perfect contrast to the pink pearl head. So, it was a combined effort and a challenge for our jewelers, although I’m not sure why. My sketch was very detailed and to scale. Donald, Howard, and Brian did an awesome job. (In spite of my drawing.) When I showed it to my wife she said, “Wow that’s beautiful! I would love to wear that.” I said, “Uh-huh.”
