Flagmakers 2010 Xmas Brochure Brochure Design As soon as I began at Flagmakers I finished designing their Xmas Flag Range and I began designing this brochure for mailing to councils throughout New Zealand. This required • • • •

typographic choices and layout following existing style ‘guides’ liasing with printer and sales staff superimposing images

This was quite the baptism of fire... mainly due to the amount of product knowledge I needed to aquire in order to make sure I was communicating the ‘right’ message through the brochure.

Flagmakers 2010 Xmas Streetflags The brief for these designs was to give the existing Xmas Streetflags a more summery feel. I was able to achieve this by creating warm sun beems in the background of all 5 designs. You can purchase these flags from the Flagmakers website: The Flagmakers 2010 Xmas Streetflag Range

Flagmakers Facebook Page Social Media Design As the way we communicate is changing, it is essential to keep up with emerging ways to reach your prospective clients. This required • • • •

researching the facebook markup researching the best methods coding and creating content for page maintaining interest by posting regularly

Facebook and other social media platforms provide a wonderful free opportunity to communicate with their customers. www.facebook.com/flagmakers

Flagmakers Photo Competition I implemented a Monthly Photo Competition for Flagmakers. This was my solution to an issue Flagmakers had. The issue was a lack of photographs of their products in real situations. The competition entries are growing each month with 16 entries last month. Flagmakers now enjoys the luxury of having customers regularly providing new photos due to their appreciation for the quality of the products and service.

Otago University Design Studies Site Web site Interface Design I contributed to this project in it’s initial phases of direction and layout. I worked closely with Jeremy Star and Scott Savage to develop a grid for the site. • • • •

navigation decisions categorising content visual elements grid design

I really loved seeing some of my thoughts on interface interaction actually working well and what’s more, they’re being used to promote the wonderful department where I learnt a lot of what I know about design and life.

Tutoring Position In 2008 and 2009 I had the privilege of tutoring at the University of Otago. It was a fantastic opportunity that taught me a lot about the way people learn and most importantly communicate. I tutored the following three papers: Design Form and Function - 100 level Industrial Design Project - 200 level Design Visualisation - 200 level

D×M×V×F+H Poster Campaign A site-specific, multidisciplinary art project, collaborated with local dunedin artists during the last week of 2009. I was asked to create a poster campaign for the event including a teaser campaign of posters that created intrigue. This was followed a week later by a series of single posters, A6 flyers and emails to inform those interested in the details of the event. View the slideshow of all posters at: http://slidesha.re/bIPHrB

Performance Video This project is aimed to challenge the concept of ‘space’ and ‘human physicality’ by stabbing the raw heart of “humanity”. With several ideas including communication, consumption and cradle to grave provoked during collaborating I decided to create a disturbing and harshly edited piece that made the viewer feel uneasy. The raw cut of this video can be found at: http://www.vimeo.com/7750624 This video was played on a 21 inch television with a group of violinists performing alongside.

Otago Centre for Theology and Public Issues Logo Design Andrew Bradstock contacted Squarei and asked us to design him a logo for the new Centre for Theology and Public Issues he was creating. We gave Andrew three different logo designs and he chose this simple logo which I designed.

Ngarua Technologies Branding I was contacted by Stuart Barson, the business development manager for Ngarua Technologies Ltd, and asked to produce a range of promotional material for them. I developed a range of promotional material for them including Powerpoint and keynote presentations, letterheads, footers and logo design/guidelines.

“It was simple: Squarei gave us what we needed and did it well. We will work with them again.” Stuart Barson Business Development Manager +64 3 472 7582 home +64 21 279 8907 mobile www.ngarua.com

SOULS T’s Vector Illustration The Society Of University of Otago Law Students contacted Squarei to do some ‘cool’ vector illustrations that they could put on t-shirts or hoodies. I created this design which they chose out of the three we submitted. The text on the t-shirt reads: Q: Can you describe the individual? A: They were about medium height and had a beard. Q: Was this a male or a female?

Fair Trade Fortnight Promotional Flyer Dave Butler-Peck, Business Development Manager of Trade Aid Importers Ltd, contacted me asking me to design him a flyer at very short notice for the Fair Trade Fortnight ‘09. I obviously took on the job as I support their cause and often shop at their store. I was pleased with the result considering the time frame given. Dave was great to work with and I will be happy to work with him again in the future. Dave Butler-Peck dave.butler-peck@tradeaid.org.nz 021 922 122 http://ftf09.fairtrade.org.nz/

The Fire Music Video This job was done for a friend. An exchange of music for video. I love Oli Cameron’s music and I really wanted to develop my animating skills, so I chose to animate a song in time for his EP release for ‘Capturing the Uncatchable’. I learnt a lot about time management in this job. With 1 week remaining I realised I would not be able to complete the hand rendering style I had planned. I solved this problem by using Final Cut Express to apply filters to footage and add the colour and movement I needed. Oli Cameron 0273938101 oli.carnivorous@gmail.com

Hams Direct Ltd Brand identity Along with some of my colleagues at Squarei Design Ltd, I entered a logo competition for Hams Direct Ltd. We developed three logos, both graphic and font based, winning the rights to develop their brand identity. Squarei worked on developing three options and my design was chosen as the final logo for their business.

We also created a range of documentation including an A3 Christmas poster. For more information on Hams Direct Ltd visit: http://www.hamsdirect.co.nz/

Removing Richardson Short film This project allowed me to pursue one of my passions... film. I learnt a lot about time management and the value of communication with participants and fellow crew members. We worked fantastically as a team and had a very willing cast who made our film something I could be proud of. The film recieved the highest grade in The Truelies Festival which was held in Dunedin. We were also very appreciative to our cast and sent them tickets to the event along with their own copies of the film on DVD. http://trueliesfestival.wordpress.com/archive/removingrichardson/

Mad Flatter Flash Game Design Ideas That Matter

By using education as a tool to help people aged 18 - 25 examine and understand conflicts we hope to give individuals a better chance of Shedding Light Not Heat taking on these complex issues themselves. By shedding light on the effects of choices MadFlatter Blueprint that individuals make to resolve conflicts; we hope to give a greater understanding of three Design Issues 2008 things. How people personally solve disputes, how this may be interpreted by others and the importance of collaboration when trying to solve a conflict. Our teaching tool allows the user to play through a conflict without any real life consequences. Watching the reaction and Charles Sheppa movement of a conflict, playing on both sides Luke Pirie of right and wrong. However the game does not Rob Cape preach to the player, it cleverly hides a layer of subversive education within the complex style of a fun 1st person puzzle solving adventure game.
