The pride and pleasure I feel as Luminato presents its fourth annual festival of arts and creativity are tempered only by the sad loss this past December of my dear friend and co-founder, David Pecaut. A true visionary who did so much to change how Toronto sees itself and how it is seen by the rest of the world, David is fittingly commemorated by the installation Solar Breath (Northern Caryatids) | Light Air in his honour by filmmaker Atom Egoyan.

Our whole festival, of course, is a tribute to David, for Luminato has made Toronto an essential destination for anyone eager to be moved, delighted, and inspired by expressions of the creative imagination. As always, many of the works in this year’s festival are being seen for the first time in North America, or the world. And as always, most of our events are free. Immensely varied and uniquely accessible, Luminato enriches the lives of Toronto’s residents and visitors alike.

My heartfelt thanks to all who make this possible: our government funding agencies, our corporate and individual donors, all the remarkable staff at Luminato led admirably by Janice Price, and you, for participating in these 10 extraordinary days of exploration, illumination, and absolute enjoyment. I invite you all to come together and show the world what is possible.
