Music Director Peter Oundjian conducts the Orchestra in Beethoven’s monumental ninth symphony at 11:00 PM, featuring a full cast of soloists and the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir.

During the premiere of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, the music was received with such emotion that both the audience and the orchestral musicians wept. Tragically, Beethoven heard neither the music nor the applause due to his profound deafness, and he only witnessed the audience’s elation after a musician directed his attention to it.

“The orchestra breathed a chord that seemed to contain every colour in the universe and every sound ever uttered since the dawn of time.”
