Introduction “7 Column Grid” provides a framework that is demonstrated in my design process. By experimenting with various design methods and research, I’m able to find my own “grid system” — the meaningful structure — that can help to reveal the connections between people, places, things, ideas, and the possible paths to innovation and creativity. I’m fascinated by the process of investigating our world, extracting the most important information, and communicating it to others by displaying it in 7 column grids. Identify a dying or defunct brand and revive it through a new strategic plan while staying true to its soul. The goals were to research the brand’s past and mission and create a new brand identity as well as a future direction.
Approach Bratz is an American product line of fashion dolls that once challenged the monopoly status of Barbie in the children’s market. Introduced by MGA Entertainment and created by Carter Bryant, Bratz became an overnight sensation. Launching a range of dolls that were made up of 75% ethnic minorities, Bratz not only diversified the racial identities in children’s toys but also transformed the ideas in which young girls are reimagining their social and gender identities.

[目的] 識別一個即將死去或者快要被市場淘汰的品牌, 通過新的設計策略使其品牌復 興,同時忠於品牌既有的靈魂. 研究品牌的過去以及使命, 並創建新的品牌識別系 統以及定義未來的品牌走向.
[方法]
給女孩的力量
美國的時尚娃娃品牌布拉茨曾經挑戰芭比娃娃在兒童市場的壟斷地位。由MGA Entertainment引入並由Carter Bryant創建的布拉茨娃娃在一夜之間引起了轟動。 布拉茨推出了一系列由75%的少數民族組成的洋娃娃,不僅使兒童玩具中的種 族身份多樣化,而且改變了年輕女孩重新構想其社會和性別身份的觀念。然 而,隨著布拉茨(Brazz)多年來與芭比(Barbie)爭奪知識產權的努力,這種 成功並沒有持續很長時間。長期的法律鬥爭揭露了更深層次的東西,也暴露 了一場關於性別,性別角色和工作場所的文化鬥爭,並為女性主義的對話打開 了大門。許多人批評布拉茨過分強調性和唯物主義,這為孩子們樹立了虛假的 榜樣。當時不切實際的美容標準令許多父母感到擔憂。在後來的幾年中,該品 牌本身找不到自己的身份優勢,最終導致其在市場上的失敗。我的品牌重塑始 於賦予品牌更積極的前景。我沒有放棄其核心價值觀,而是提出了新的使命 宣言,並通過更多可社會識別的因素賦予女孩權力,從而確定了品牌靈魂。自 信,聰明和堅強構成了Bratz的新核心。這在我的徽標重新設計過程中得到了很 好的體現。最後,我提出了一些例子,說明布拉茨如何前進並發揮其新作用。

Create a hypothetical film festival project to celebrate the films of English film director and producer Alfred Hitchcock. The objective was to coordinate a complex set of materials that must function together as a whole. The idea is also to marry multiple messages with divergent formats- all with a unified and holistic aesthetic. This aesthetic has to contain the essence of the director and his storytelling style.
Approach
Obsessive Love
There is a prevailing obsession with voyeurism running throughout Hitchcock’s oeuvre. He knew that human beings have a fascination with watching. We are naturally nosy, curious, and intrusive in our daily existence. As a voyeur, audiences somehow feel complicit in the events onscreen. So why did audiences feel so uncomfortable? It’s a simple but revealing explanation. Hitchcock forced them into a position in which they simply did not want to be – the position of voyeur. This project attempts to incorporate the artistic expression of the Alfred Hitchcock and five chosen films Psycho, Vertigo, Rear Window, Dial M for Murder and Shadow of a Doubt in two ways– Through consistent visual language and through design deliverables that mesh together as an integrated system.

Objective
[目的] 一個假設的電影節項目,旨在慶祝英國電影導演和製片人阿爾弗雷德·希區柯 克的電影。目的是整合一組複雜材料使其一起充分發揮作用。將具有不同格式 的多條訊息整合在一起-使其具有統一的整體美感。這種審美必須包含導演的本 質以及導演敘述故事的風格。
[方法] 在希區柯克的多個作品中,普遍存在著這個共同主題:偷窺狂的癡迷。希區柯 克知道人類出於好奇的天性 ,非常著迷於觀看。希區柯克不知不覺的讓觀眾以 偷窺狂的角度參與屏幕上的事件而感到同謀。透過視覺表現手法 , 希區柯克 強迫觀眾進入一個他們根本不想成為的位置-偷窺者的位置。這設計項目試圖 結合阿爾弗雷德·希區柯克和他的五部精選電影(Psycho,Vertigo,Rear Window,Dial M for Murder和 Shadow of a Doubt)的藝術表現力-通過一致的視覺語 言運用在多樣設計產品,將它們融合在一起集成一套有凝聚力的視覺系統。

Objective Create a poster that expresses a piece of music through typography, imagery and layout composition. Gather ideas, emotions, and visuals that would be associated with the song. Afterward, project the imagery onto various surfaces, creating a multidimensional design solution. Approach The song I chose was “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” which is a popular worldwide hit song released in September 1988 by American musician Bobby McFerrin. I gave the poster a new slogan, Be with Someone that Makes You Happy. I used fluorescent colors to convey happiness. I printed the type and design elements on transparency paper and put them on a traditional projector. Then I photographed the images reflected on the wall.

Create a mobile app that solves a specific problem. This project requires thoughtful research, prototype testing, user testing, and a well considered user interface and user experience design. Approach FoodData app is a data driven resource to help people track and organize healthy foods. When creating this UI, I wanted to emphasize infographics to give the user a friendlier and less intimidating calorie application. I want to step away from presenting health information in a standard clinical format and employ a more playful approach that users would not dread seeing daily. I designed avatars that changed stature and facial expressions depending on the user’s daily intake. Soft edges and color codes were used to mark excessive calories based initial goals.

Ocean Beauty
Over the last few decades, surplus human activities have severely affected marine life on the Earth’s oceans. Every year, some 6 million to 8 million tons of crab, shrimp, and lobster shell waste are produced globally. Because the US Environmental Protection Agency does allow fish waste to be tossed back into the ocean, shell waste is often just dumped in landfills or in the sea. Turning cast-off shells into nitrogen-rich chemicals would benefit economies and the environment. Crustacean shells are 20–40% protein, 20–50% calcium carbonate and 15–40% chitin. Chitin is nitrogen-rich chemical for cosmetics. Chitosan is a fiber-like substance derived from chitin. Chitosan is a legitimate ingredient in many cosmetics. It is used for skincare, deodorant and hair care. Pearl is an eco-friendly cosmetic brand I created to promote the recyclable idea.

Objective

Objective Create materials for a hypothetical or an existing conference. Design a visual concept that demonstrates a conceptual and typographical system. Approach I chose to redesign and expand on campaign modeling material for the 2017 International Design Conference - TYPO Focus. Shifts in design, society, culture are constant and designers are forced to make tough decisions. Does a graphic designer take on type design? Should a visual artist delve into UX? Do type foundries dedicate more attention to webfonts? To be competitive, we need to be competent in web, print, mobile, type design and UX. In this project, I used 3 bright colors and a variety of circular design elements to convey the idea of “Focus”.

Choose a company and redesign its annual report or corporate sustainability report. Explore innovative ways to communicate with text, graphics, and images. This process excels the quality of YHI International Limited. Approach In 2008, Richard Tay, the group managing director of YHI International Limited, made a much-publicised move to supply the Toro Rosso Formula. One racing team with YHI’s proprietary brand of Advanti Racing lightweight racing rims. That year, the team won the Italian Grand Prix. I redesigned YHI International Limited Company’s annual report. I tried to keep the racing competition look and feel and leverage it with curated imagery that focuses on showing effective speed race. Simple yet elegant infographics were designed to add a touch of sophistication.

Objective
[目的] 目的是選擇一家公司並重新設計其年度報告。 探索創新方法透過內容,圖形和 圖像進行視覺溝通。
[方法] 2008年,YHI國際有限公司的集團董事總經理Richard Tay做出了廣為宣傳的舉 動,向Toro Rosso一級方程式賽車隊提供YHI的專有品牌Advanti Racing輕量級賽 車輪圈。 那一年,車隊贏得了意大利大獎賽。 我重新設計了YHI國際有限公司 的年度報告。 我試圖加入賽車比賽的外觀和感覺,並通過精心設計的圖像來顯 示速度感的視覺設計。 使用簡單而優雅的信息圖表增加精緻感。
