FALL NOVELTIES 2018

LUMINOX NAMED OFFICIAL PARTNER OF ICE-SAR

Luminox watches are designed and produced to go where few people would think of taking a high-quality timepiece. The Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue (ICE-SAR) goes to just these places in their appointed duties. Celebrating its 90th year this year, ICE-SAR has named Luminox as its official partner. Luminox watches are now part of the essential gear for all 93 ICE-SAR teams.

ABOUT ICE-SAR Founded in 1928, the first volunteer association created this proud tradition and carry it on till this very day. Soon enough, more teams from the small fishing villages followed suit and today ICE-SAR stands strong with 93 teams and a force of over 4.000 volunteers passionately driving accident prevention and Search and Rescue programs in Iceland. All volunteers are true Search and Rescue experts as all rescuers receive an 18-months training before they can go on their first mission and proudly stand behind the ICE-SAR motto: Devotion, Professionalism and Leadership.

OFFICIAL PARTNER OF ICE-SAR, THE ICELANDIC ASSOCIATION FOR SEARCH AND RESCUE Luminox watches have proven their reliability on all sea, air, and land dimensions. In addition to ice, heavy rains and strong winds, ICE-SAR also has to deal with limited daylight visibility as Iceland remains in partial or total darkness during several months in winter. In such conditions, Luminox watches and their unique self-powered illumination system – providing constant glow for up to 25 years - truly becomes an essential gear to ICE-SAR teams in order to conduct their missions. On the partnership, ICE-SAR commented: „We are honoured to have an international and prestigious partner such as Luminox. Their watches are tough, light, and perfectly fitted to the Icelandic weather”. ICE-SAR also mentioned: “We, at ICE-SAR, are not heroes – we are ordinary people doing extraordinary work. Volunteers may join ICE-SAR for the action and the adrenaline - but first and foremost because they share the vision of helping others.“

1928 – 2018: ICE-SAR CELEBRATES ITS 90TH ANNIVERSARY In 2018, ICE-SAR celebrates its 90th anniversary (1928 – 2018). On this special occasion, Luminox creates a Limited Edition watch within its ICE-SAR Arctic 1000 series. The watch is limited to 900 units globally and all watches are individually numbered on the stainless steel caseback. The shape of the ICE-SAR logo - with its four circle elements - is the source of inspiration to the bezel shape. Technical Specifications

TOUGH STORY

“IT’S ABOUT BECOMING BETTER THAN WE WERE YESTERDAY” An insightful interview by Will Devaughn who ran the Spartan Race in Cebu, the Philippines

We heard you took part in the Spartan Race PH – can you describe this experience? It was one of the most challenging and amazing experiences I’ve ever had. The journey, the course, the energy of all the Spartans was just unbelievable. I now understand why people travel from all over the world to participate. The experience as a whole is just simply incredible. We know this race as a very extreme challenge – how did you prepare for it? I’ve been training in various obstacle course warehouses 2 months prior to the Spartan race but I’ve been consistently training calisthenics (body weight) and Olympic ring training for a year. I can say without a doubt it helped me conquer all of the the obstacles with confidence. What are the “must have” equipment for the race? You’d definitely need trail shoes, a durable watch (Luminox) and rubber grip gloves are all essential. What were the most challenging moments you were faced with during the race? And how did you overcome these challenges? It was by far the uphill run through Foressa. Within the first 10 minutes of climbing up I was already battling with myself to keep running and pushing forward. The tough asphalt terrain made it even more difficult. I spoke to myself and said ‘this is your test of Will” over and over until giving up was not an option. The rope climb was a challenge also because my gloves became wet from the trench obstacles. I leaped for the rope and my gloves along with me slid back down to the ground. I panicked for a second, and then realized I just had to tighten my grip as hard as I possibly can.

You may know that Luminox has made the Navy SEALS mantra – The Only Easy Day Was Yesterday – its motto for 2018. How do you personally relate to this mantra? This mantra speaks volumes to me. We tend to sometimes get caught up in our comfort zones in life. Honestly, this race opened up a new side of me that I’ve been looking for. It’s about becoming better than we were yesterday. And we do this by growing in areas of discomfort, challenges and even pain. Did you ever consider quitting the race? I never considered quitting but I definitely considered taking a break by laying in a plush bed of grass for only 10 minutes. But I didn’t, I just kept on pushing, even if my legs were on fire. A run became a steady walk. I saved 10 minutes. In such a race, what is the importance of timing? Pacing yourself and giving yourself enough time to prepare mentally and physically for an obstacle is crucial. Too soon and you might not be able to push through due to fatigue. But if you wait too long to recover, you might pass up important seconds in ranking. Congratulations @willdevaughn on completing the Spartan Race PH in 1:19:56. Luminox is proud to have been your partner for this adventure and wishes more successes in the forthcoming races!

TOUGH STORY

“QUITTING NEVER CROSSES MY MIND”

A powerful and personal statement by Nick North, retired Navy SEAL

“I was always looking for the schedule, and there’s the next evolution, and I’d be ready for it, and I’d go do that evolution. Then we would do the next one, then the next one. We would just keep moving forward. In special operations, as in life, if you are to improve, you must continue to do better than yesterday, and that is a challenge. It is a phrase of continuous improvement. You never let up, always be your best, and continue to do better than you’ve done before. You will not always succeed, but you must always believe you will succeed. Anything short of that belief will lead to failure.

13

Yesterday is done. Today’s tasks are before me. There are only two rules in life, improve or deteriorate. There’s nothing in between, it doesn’t exist, it’s an illusion. If you’re going to continuously improve, you must meet new challenges and succeed. Every success means that the next challenge will be more arduous. If it’s not, then it’s not a challenge. Constant improvement, every single cycle through. The only easy day was yesterday. I will NEVER QUIT”

Nick North retired Navy SEAL

Luminox Light Technology (LLT) All Luminox watches feature a self-powered illumination system employing tiny micro gas light sources. This Swiss technology guarantees unsurpassed ability to read the time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for up to 25 years. Each watch has micro gas lights mounted on the hands, dial, and, when necessary, also on the bezel. This technology does not depend on an external light source to “charge“ fluorescent paint on the dial or hands in order to glow, nor do Luminox watches require the push of a button to light up as do watches with electroluminescence.
