We are proud and honored to be selected to design and supply watches for one of the most elite and respected Special Forces in the world, namely the US Navy SEALs. Our collaboration goes back to 1994 when we worked together with Chief Nick North to develop a watch specifically for the SEALs.

Continuous improvement and innovation ensure that our watches have exactly those functionalities that our fans worldwide would appreciate most. In our 2023 collection, we are proud to present our new ICE-SAR collection watches, featuring a pulsometer, with which it is possible to determine the pulse of oneself or another person fast and certain. We are also proud to launch our Mil-Spec watch in 2023, a watch built according to the renowned Mil-Spec standards.

BRAND STORY

1989

Luminox (LUMI is Latin for light while NOX is Latin for night) was born in 1989, driven by a commitment to offer cutting-edge luminescence and readability in its line of high-performance sports watches.

Since then, we refer to the illumination technology in the Luminox watches as the Luminox Light Technology (LLT).

1992

The officer in charge of procurement for the Navy SEALs, Nick North, together with the Luminox founder, Barry Cohen, worked to develop a watch specifically for the Navy SEALs and the Navy SEAL watch was born.

1994

After Luminox provided the watches to the SEALs, more elite units contacted the brand directly, including the U.S. Coast Guard, New York City Police Department, Singapore Air Force, Special Military Forces Israel and many other law enforcement groups.

1998

Luminox was approached by U.S. Air Force pilots flying the F-117 Nighthawk™ Stealth fighter jet. This initial contact turned into a worldwide license agreement to produce Lockheed Martin timepieces.

2002 The U.S. Bobsleigh and Skeleton Teams win six medals during the Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Games. The teams wore co-branded Luminox Navy SEAL Colormark watches 3051 and 3957.

2003

Luminox opens its first mono-brand store in Tokyo. Luminox now has four mono-brand stores in Japan.

2005

Luminox creates the first Lockheed Martin SR-71 Blackbird™ Limited Edition timepieces.

2007

Launch of the Navy SEAL Colormark 3051 Series — the evolution of the original Navy SEAL timepieces — soon to become the best-selling series of Luminox watches.

2008

Luminox expands its presence globally to more than 50 countries and becomes a truly global brand.

2009

Luminox partners with counter terrorism expert and undersea explorer Scott Cassell. Cassell is a dive professional and relies on Luminox watches as part of his essential diving gear.

2010

Luminox is proud to introduce its 50 bar (500 meter / 1500 feet) Deep Dive Automatic Series — Essential Gear for serious divers and a certified watch for use by professionals — complying with the strict and extremely high standards of ISO 6425 for diving watches.

2011

Launch of the first Luminox RECON series with the Point Man 8820.

2015

Luminox initiates the Luminox Special Operations Challenge (LSOC): honoring its heritage, Luminox partners with retired Navy SEALs to offer civilians the chance to train like a Navy SEAL for a day.

2017

New Swiss-Made law: The new Swiss-Made law came into effect as of January 2017 and all Luminox Watches continue to fulfil the new Swiss-Made regulations.

2018

Luminox named Official Partner of the Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue (ICE-SAR). To celebrate and commemorate this partnership, Luminox has created a special ICE-SAR Arctic Series.

2020

Luminox is part of the Mondaine Group, carrying 4 different watch brands. The Mondaine Group became comprehensively CO2 neutral on scope 1, 2 and 3 of the GHG protocol in 2020. The Greenhouse Gas Protocol provides standards and tools that help companies, countries and cities track progress toward climate goals and is the most used standard for greenhouse emission accounting and management.

Luminox announced its partnership with bear Grylls, the world’s most recognized face of survival and outdoor adventure.

2021

Luminox as part of the Mondaine Group managed to be CO2 neutral on scope 1,2 and 3 of the GHG protocol for the second year in a row.

2022

Building on the success of the Pacific Diver series, Luminox launches a day/date chronograph version of its already iconic model.

2023

Luminox launched its Mil-Spec watch, built against the performance specification standard of MIL-PRF-46374G. This means its design and colors, its water resistance, its robustness, quality and material sourcing reflect the standards of the U.S. Department of Defense.

SWISS MADE

Switzerland is the beating heart of the global watch industry. The history, the expertise, its reliability and the craftsmanship is unique. When walking through the small Swiss towns that are home to many production and assembly sites of the world’s most renowned watch brands, you will realize how embedded the watch making is in the culture of Switzerland; some families work for several generations in the watch industry. It is a passion, a dedication, for life, and you see that in the quality and design of the Swiss watches.

Luminox is therefore extremely proud to be Swiss Made. But what does this mean? A watch brand can claim to be Swiss Made when at least 60% of the manufacturing costs and the essential manufacturing step of the watch head (so excluding the strap) occurs in Switzerland.

Situated in Solothurn, in the heart of Switzerland, the Luminox watch comes alive with the greatest care and precision including thorough testing of the LLT’s (Luminox Light Technology) on the watch (which ensures night visibility for up to 25 years), water resistance, and in the case of the automatic watches, also the automatic movement is checked. The factory is solar powered: Up to 80% of annual needs of energy is provided through 800m2 of solar collectors on the roof, producing green electricity for the manufacturing of Mondaine Watch Ltd.

Luminox watches glow up to 25 years in any light condition – ALWAYS VISIBLE!

The Luminox Light Technology (LLT) provides unmatched night visibility through a self-powered illumination system that lasts up to 25 years. Each Luminox watch features micro gas lights (borosilicate glass capsules), which are always lit, on the hands, hour markers and, when necessary, on the bezels.

How is it different from other watch brands?

Superluminova, the most commonly used luminosity system, has to be exposed to a light source (natural or artificial) to get charged and then it will hold the luminosity for a limited time dependent from the quality of the material. The duration of the visibility is approximately between 3.5 and 8 hours.

Luminox watches with the LLT’s (activated luminosity) need no external light source to “charge” the paint on the dial or hands in order to glow. They neither require a push of a button to light the dial as do watches with electro luminescence, and therefore Luminox watches do not consume any battery power. These are the main advantages of the LLT’s.

PRODUCT MATERIALS

Luminox uses an innovative carbon compound material – CARBONOX ™ – for its ultra-lightweight watches.

CARBONOX ™ is six times lighter than steel, three times lighter than titanium, non metallic, anti-allergenic and anti-magnetic. CARBONOX ™ has strong chemical resistance, very low thermal extension, low heat expansion and is weatherproof – creating a very rigid and hard finished watch case that takes ruggedness and durability to a whole new level.

CARBONOX ™ + is a high performance carbon long bar compound, in which carbon fibers count for 40% of the compound. In addition to the many consumer benefits already provided by CARBONOX ™ , CARBONOX ™ + also delivers ultra-strong watch case, thanks to the rigidity of the carbon fibers, tensile strength, which is twice as high as with CARBONOX ™ , while water absorption is three times lower. CARBONOX ™ + imparts a very modern and distinctive gray colour to the Luminox watches.

Our sapphire crystals are scratch resistant with anti-reflective coatings for superior readability at all times. Our mineral crystals are specially hardened (550 to 650 Vickers), approximately 20% harder than conventional mineral crystals.

Luminox uses high grade 316L stainless steel which has superior strength. 316L steel is also more scratch resistant and will not oxidize, rust or change color.

#TIDE ocean materials are made from 100% ocean-bound plastic, developed in partnership with Swiss scientists. Partnering with #TIDE is another step in the sustainable direction for Luminox.

AUTOMATICS

More and more people are discovering the magic of mechanical movements – automatic movements actually interact with you, as the movement of your wrist keeps them wound – with no battery to change!

Automatic movement is a mechanical movement with a self-winding design which harnesses the energy produced by the wearer’s motion to wind the spring. The watch maintains its power reserve if you wear it every day otherwise it is advisable to store it on a watch winder to keep it at full power.

LUMINOX CONTINUES TO DO IT’S PART

Today, everyone has to do their part to make the world a better, and more sustainable, place to live. For Luminox, this has meant revamping its production processes, as well as partnering with a Swiss company to collect plastic and waste from the ocean and using those materials to create the #TIDE series of watches.

#TIDE MATERIALS

#tide ocean materials are made from 100% ocean-bound plastic, developed in partnership with Swiss scientists. On five islands in the Andaman Sea off the coast of Thailand, local fishermen are being trained and paid to gather and sort plastic waste.

The #tide material starts out as this collected plastic waste, which is then broken down by a sophisticated sustainable process to its base particles. These are treated, cleaned, and then shredded so that they can be injected, just like the original plastic it once was. In this way, Luminox reuses this material, reduces the impact on the planet, and helps to clean up the ocean, while also helping these indigenous people learn a new skill and make a regular income.

The uni-directional “Dive Time” bezel of the Commando Frogman is special. Not only can it display how much time you have left underwater, which is common for Luminox SEA watches, but it also has a nodecompression scale, so you can calculate how much time you can spend at what depth without having to decompress. The bezel outer ring gives the dive time in minutes and the orange bezel inner ring gives the dive depth in meters. Assuming that your deepest diving depth is 30 meters, before your descent, line up the bezel-LLT of the outer ring with the minute hand. ICE-SAR 1050 SERIES

In partnership with ICE-SAR, Luminox launches the new ICE-SAR Arctic 1050 Series watch with a 46mm case, and a bezel and buckle in black CARBONOX™. The timepiece is available in different color variations, where red and orange is playfully integrated on the blue and black watch dial and ring. A tone-on-tone sticked rubber strap completes the piece. The new 1050 Arctic watch comes equipped with a Pulsometer; thanks to the extra second hand and the indexes on the dial ring, it is possible to swiftly discover the pulse of oneself or a patient, essential for first responders.

Like every Luminox timepiece, it incorporates the Luminox Light Technology, making sure that your timepiece is visible in any light conditions for up to 25 years.

MIL-SPEC 3350 SERIES

Mil-Spec (short for Military Specification) refers to the military standard from the U.S. Department of Defense. When a product is compliant with these standards of sourcing, fabrication, material, quality and supply, it could be referred to as a Mil-Spec product or component.

The Luminox 3350 Series watch is built against the performance specification standard of MIL-PRF-46374G. This means its design and colors, its water resistance, its robustness, quality and material sourcing reflect the standards of the U.S. Department of Defense.

1 GENUINE LEATHER STRAP

Crafted from carefully selected materials, each leather strap is unique and has its very own character, such as a specific colour shade or structure.

2 WEBBING STRAP

Extremely sturdy, yet supple high-tech strap in the NATO style. Made with nylon material which has a comfortable wearing feeling.

3 RUBBER STRAP

Made from caoutchouc, our rubber straps are water-resistant, tear-proof and resistant to external influences, such as UV light, chemicals, extreme heat or cold temperatures.

4 SILICONE RUBBER STRAP

Silicone rubber is a synthetic elastomer. It is resistant to extreme environments and temperatures and provides a smooth and extremely comforting feel.

5 TITANIUM BRACELET

Anyone who possesses a valuable and unique watch will also want something special from the bracelet that is worn with it. Titanium watch straps are very light and offer a high level of comfort.

6 STAINLESS STEEL BRACELET

Stainless Steel watch bracelets are designed to fit casual and dress watches alike, solid stainless steel watch bands are predominantly very robust and are finished to a high standard.

7 VELCRO STRAP

Strong and durable with a secure hook and loop fastener, the ideal anti-allergy strap as no metal touches the skin.

8 CUT–TO–FIT STRAP

The cut-to-fit strap can be cut to any desired length: remove the (quick release) spring bar, cut to the desired length, and reinstal the (quick release) spring bar. The 24mm cut-to-fit strap comes with a diver’s buckle with double security.

HOW TO SHORTEN A CUT-TO-FIT STRAP

1.

– Measure your wrist size using the ruler found on the end of this document and add a tolerance of 5mm to your wrist size to ensure you have a long enough strap.

i.e: If your wrist is 18cm long, add +5mm tolerance for a final measurement of 18.5cm total length. You can adjust the final strap length with the deployment buckle at the end.

2.

– Remove the deployment buckle from both ends of the strap by using a strap changing tool or other suitable device.

– Strap changing tools can be purchased on luminox.com

– Cut the strap in the designated slots with sharp scissors.

– Attach the strap to your watch case by using the quick release spring bars which can be operated without a tool.

– The strap part with the LUMI spelling must be attached to the 6 o’clock side of the watch case.

– The strap part with the NOX spelling must be attached to the 12 o’clock side of the

– To re-assemble the strap, watch case and deployment buckle you first have to remove the watch case.

– De-tach the watch case from the strap usingthe quick release spring bars.

– Place the spring bars into the ends of both strap sides.

– The less wide side of the strap fits into the deployment buckle opening.

– The security clasp should open in the direction of the LUMI spelling side of the strap. The NOX spelling side of the strap should be closest to the Luminox logo part of the security clasp.

– Lay the watch and strap flat on a surface. Use the ruler to measure the entire length of the watch and strap.

– If the full watch and strap is 22.5cm long and your measured wrist is 18.5cm, then the strap is 4cm too long which you will have to cut off.

– Always try and cut off the same amount on both sides of the strap so that the watch case is centered in the middle of both strap sides.

– If the length to cut results in an odd number (in this case 4.5cm) cut off more on the LUMI spelling side. For this example, cut off 2.5cm on the LUMI spelling side and 2cm off on the NOX spelling side of the strap.

– Always cut along the designated slots which are each 5mm long.

– Attach the watch case to the strap using the quick release spring bars.
