REAL STONE
KITCHEN WORK SURFACES
CRAFTED BY NATURE The essential nature of a piece of rock is not revealed until the surface is carefully honed. In return you get to see its marvels – like looking through a window towards three hundred million year old crystals. That’s how long they have been motionless. Now they revive – unfolding butterfly wings, blinking their eyes after profound and peaceful sleep. You can observe this awakening at its most vital when watching an artist impatiently polishing different parts of a stone sculpture.

– REFINED FOR LIVING There’s life in this stone. Unhurried life. It has been dormant for almost an eternity. And its crystals are truly natures firstborn.* The very same vitalisation transpires when natural stone is crafted into desirable, yet functional objects. Stone has been utilized for thousands of years – its beauty, versatility and durability still makes it the perfect material for your modern kitchen work surface.

THE
STORY In 1910 a young Swedish man named Alfred Lundh came to Norway to run the Norwegian department for one of the biggest quarrying companies in the world at that time. Alfred Lundh then started the proud quarrying traditions that formed the basis of today's company. In 1962 Alfred’s grandson and 3rd generation quarry worker, Thor Lundh, decided to start his own quarrying company, Lundhs. After a couple of years of quarrying at his own expense – and that of the bank, things had not gone all that well. In 1964, he risked the last money he had borrowed on a daring manoeuvre. He wanted to blast out the largest stone section ever blasted out by a block stone operator. The preparations took several weeks, and when they finally made the blast – it was a big success and a turning point for the company. Thor continued the hard work with his high level of precision, and he revealed even more rich occurrences of the unique materials that we still solely supply. He restructured the quarry operation totally, going from manual labour to machine operations. Thor also began exporting worldwide, and today Lundhs are still building on the good relations started back in the 1960’s.

Thor-Anders Lundh Håkestad
Today Thor-Anders Lundh Håkestad, 5th generation of the Lundh family, is the CEO of the company. He started his career working in the quarries in Norway, and later in the stone processing industry in France and Italy. Thor-Anders has a strong commitment of developing Lundhs further – ensuring the same passion for precision and quality as in generations before. “The history of Lundhs started more than 100 years ago. Throughout this time, innovation has been essential. The areas of use for natural stone has changed completely. The ways of extracting has changed completely. Lundhs has always been in the forefront of these changes. Now we want to change the way of promoting natural stone towards the end user. We will take the step of transforming Lundhs products from a commodity to a strong brand. Not only in the stone industry, but also all the way to the end user. Our materials are 100% natural. Each slab of stone has nature’s own unique fingerprint. We hope you will be inspired when you have a closer look at the LUNDHS Real Stone concept – promoting natural stone in a new way”, says Lundh Håkestad.

CHOICE Knowing that Lundhs provides only the highest quality stone, you are free to revel in the beauty and diversity of all LUNDHS Real Stone work surfaces. With the choice of four colours, two distinct surface finishes and a number of different edge profiles, you have a range of options to perfectly suit your favourite interior style.
FINISHES
POLISHED A high gloss polished surface is the most popular finish for Lundhs' materials. This surface finish reflects the light beautifully, mirroring the surroundings and making the blue crystals sparkle.
SILK A silk polished surface has an elegant matte and lightly structured finish. This provides a more soft and subtle look than a high gloss finish. Beneath the texture, crystals still catch the light and sparkle gently.
EDGES From classic country to urban contemporary – one of the key points of any kitchen style is choosing the perfect work surface edge. Your kitchen designer or fabricator can offer you guidance in selecting the perfect edge detail for your style of kitchen. Below are some examples of popular choices.

REAL
QUALITY The high density, non-porous surfaces of LUNDHS Real Stone are the result of nature’s marvellous mineral melting pot and the comprehensive Lundhs quality control combined. Our extensive quality control begins with stone blocks carefullly harvested from the quarry and then displayed for inspection. They are hosed down and turned carefully to examine and uncover possible discolorations and cracks. Blocks that have made it through the preliminary sorting are cleaned again to remove dust, then scrutinised from every angle. Only the highest quality blocks are sent further for work surface processing. This makes 100% certain that the LUNDHS Real Stone you choose for your kitchen work surface is of impeccable quality.
