Design by Numbers is created by a group of 2nd and 3rd year students from Lund University School of Industrial Design. The theme stems from a workshop on sustainable furniture for the future, held by Sigga Heimisdottir, in October last year.

HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH Seating furniture inspired by statistics showing the level of life satisfaction in various parts of the world. The statistics have been translated into three-dimensional shapes creating peaks in places where satisfaction is found to be the highest.

SHOWER BURDEN

Print on inside of curtain serves as a constant reminder to conserve water. Two minutes less equals three buckets saved.

70% OFF!

Clothes rack shaped by the fact that we apparently only use 30% of the clothes hanging in our closets. Garments beyond the 30% mark get compressed as they move downslope.

POWER SHOWER

If we should believe the numbers, future power struggles will concern access to clean water.

THE LAST SUPPER SITTING

Our eating habits are rapidly changing. We eat breakfast standing up, lunch to go and fast food dinners. The table evolves with our new way of life.

IGNORANCE IS BLISS

Sometimes you just want to ignore the hard facts. Here you can hide your unwanted things without creating a bump as when sweeping under the carpet.

MINISCULE MIRROR Illustrating the small fraction of water readily available for human use. It’s all about do-not-forget-to-turn-off-thetap-while-brushing.
