Learning vocabulary is a very important part of learning a language. The more words you know, the more you will be able to understand what you hear and read; and the better you will be able to say what you want to when speaking or writing. Learning Gaeilge means learning lots of new words. You’ll probably need at least 1,500 to 2,000 words to start feeling comfortable. Most learners find that they memorise words better if they do something with them, if they use them in a real and practical way, rather than simply learning a list of vocab. In this section each themed word group has an accompanying series of tasks to help place the new words into your active vocabulary. Research shows that it takes from 10 to 20 repetitions to really make a word part of your vocabulary.
