WHY CHOOSE CAPOEIRA

Capoeira combining martial, dance and also sport. That’s why we think this movement is unique and can create such a space. martial

Capoeira movement can be classified as attack and defense movement. And there is ginga as a transition in every movement. Narrow space

History of Capoeira Capoeira is an original Brazilian martial arts, that have elements of martial, dance, and sports. Capoeira now has been studied in many countries.

Ginga Movement

Ginga is a basic technique in capoeira. Ginga has continuous body movements to look for the right time to attack or defend themselves.

Early stages of the movement of players ginga facing each other is taking stance with legs wide open. Players ginga who is facing each other at a distance of about two meters.

STEP

1

STEP

2 The second stage is to maintain the position with wide open of legs. Because ginga is a continuos body movement.

On the third stage, each player moves forward and closer to retaining the position with wide open of their legs

STEP

Fourth stage, the body still the same position in the third stage but have the distance between players closer.

Negativa Movement Negativa movement in capoeria is a movement to defense the opponent by using foot.

STEP

1

Early stages of the movement of players negativa characterized by bending over in the direction of an opponent with your legs extended position towards the rear.

STEP

2 The second stage is to cross their legs toward the back of the hand position to give balance to the body ruled.

On the third stage, each player moves forward and closer to retaining the position

Fourth stage, hunched posture with the head facing down and take a stance leg went up ready to attack the opponent

Esquiva Movement

Esquiva movement , (mark with circle) one of attack varians movement

1

2 This movement is a kicking movement where the leg form a circle to pass the opponent head. On the third stage, each player moves forward and closer to retaining the position

3D FIGURINES

We make figurines out of wire, the wire is shaped into body movement according to the video. These figurines was made in order to understand more about the space in between created by those movements. It helps us to imagine what kind of space created and its easier for us to project that into 2D.

View from above

From these figurines, we decided to draw the 3d concept in 2d form. We try to draw /trace in order to analyze the space in between and pull some words that describe the characteristic of the space. These words gonna help us define the character of the space.

There are 3 main movements that we choose, among many of capoeira movements. We consider these movements as the unique-complicatedDynamic but also common in capoeira. continuous

Symmetrical Balance

3

GINGA

2D TRACING 2

4

We start tracing from the first movement according to the video.we try to define the space with thick and thin colors, we use highlight and shadow. From the tracing we find that the space created are symmetrical because each person perform similar movement at the same time.

4 Esquiva is one of attack movement. It is a spinning kick movement. The same with negativa it forms a circle space according to that spinning movement . But also creates some Asymetrical characteristic as mention below. Up down

Negativa is a defense moevement. So when one perform this defense movement, the other is perform the attack, so that there is different height of space. There is also spinning leg movement, from this movement the space created is also form a circle.

MODEL 1

This model made from the trace, it shape the form of the trace and we sort by their sequences. From this model we can get the shape for our initial form. And also this model represent some of the characteristic that we analyze from the tracing.

Different shape produce difference space for represents dynamic space

Curved lines represents flexible space

CONCLUSION SPACE IN BEETWEEN Interaction which involve body movement, produce space between peoples who involved in that movement. Those movement is what called violence. From this project we can learn more about generating form from body movement, and also creates some methods for it.
