Asian BBQ Lamb Ribs

Serves 6

FOR THE SEASONING: 6 pounds lamb ribs

FOR THE PICKLED PAPAYA: 10 papayas (not ripe), julienned

¾ cup kosher salt

6 cups rice wine vinegar

¼ cup smoked paprika

3¾ cups sugar

¼ cup crushed red pepper flakes

4 oz lemon grass

½ cup herbes de Provence

1 tbsp salt

½ cup El Toro chili powder

1 star anise

½ cup granulated garlic

Bring all ingredients, except the papaya, to a boil. Let liquid cool, then pour over papaya. Cover and refrigerate.

¼ cup ground chili mix (ancho, chipotle) Mix ingredients and coat onto ribs. Place in pan in refrigerator for 4 to 6 hours. Then, add small amount of water to pan, cover with foil and cook at 275 F for 3 to 4 hours, depending on thickness of ribs. Take ribs out of pan to cool. Once cold, section into individual chops.

FOR THE SAUCE: 16 oz hoisin sauce

FOR THE SLAW: ¼ cup napa cabbage, sliced 1 oz pickled red onion 1 oz pickled papaya (recipe above)

What inspired you to become designers? Brett’s father was an architect and his mother was an interior designer. Although design was in his blood, he pursued a career in music before realizing his true calling. How do your styles differ? Our styles don’t differ as much as they complement each other. Brett’s is more structured and linear; mine is more organic and eclectic, but we both gravitate toward the same things. What projects are you currently working on? The evening’s dedicated honorees were Gail and Robert Milhous, Boca residents who have been actively involved in educating and empowering the local Parkinson’s community for more than two decades. Gail has also been on the Parkinson’s Foundation’s National Board of Directors for eight years. Whether she’s boating, touring the world in an antique car or helping improve the lives of those living with Parkinson’s, Milhous is a woman on the move who believes that every day is another opportunity to do something useful.

Why is the Parkinson’s Foundation so close to your heart? My mother suffered from Parkinson’s disease for 30 years. As her caregiver, I learned many important lessons, and it became my mission to share them. I am passionate about educating those coping with Parkinson’s about how to live better lives. I hope that by helping to fund Parkinson’s research, it will one day result in Ć‚PFKPI C EWTG What is some advice you can offer to those whose loved ones are suffering from this horrible condition? It’s important to WPFGTUVCPF VJCV C RGTUQP CHĆƒKEVGF YKVJ 2CTMKPUQPoU KU C RTKUQPGT in his or her own body. Physically, they have been betrayed, yet their brains are still functioning. How did it feel to be honored at the recent gala? It was wonderful to be recognized, but to be honest, it’s somewhat embarrassing because I don’t do it for the accolades. I do what I do for the Parkinson’s Foundation only because I care so much about making a difference in people’s lives.

Tell us about the Outcomes Project. The Outcomes Project is the Parkinson’s Foundation’s most important study currently underway. It is the largest-ever clinical study of Parkinson’s disease with over 10,000 patients involved. We have gleaned so much information from the study. For example, we’ve learned that it’s critical to physically keep moving because it can help stave off the progression of the disease.

Local attraction: The beautiful water, which is perfect for boating, snorkeling, etc.

Speaking of “moving,� what should people know about Moving Day? Moving Day community walks are a movement toward awareness. The funds raised support the Parkinson’s Foundation’s mission of delivering quality care, funding cutting-edge research and providing free resources for people living with the disease.

Besides advancing the efforts of the Parkinson’s Foundation, how do you enjoy spending your time? My husband is an antique car collector, and we belong to clubs that are dedicated to almost every make and model, from Rolls-Royce to Bentley to pre-1915 autos. We have made friends all over the world by touring with these clubs.
