CRYSTAL MOSQUE Malaysia’s Islamic Heritage Park on Wan Man Island blurs the line between prayer and commerce. Although it is a tourist attraction that cost $80 million, it also features one of the most spectacular Islamic places of worship in the world, the Crystal Mosque. The mosque took two years to be built from 2006 until 2008 and was only opened to the public on 8th February 2008 by the 13th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin of Terengganu.

HANGAR ONE Fly a Boeing 737 Simulator from the comfort of your hotel If you've ever wanted to fly a plane, now's your chance! The Superior Cockpit Room is exactly how it sounds, a superior room with a cockpit. Tokyo's The Haneda Excel Hotel features a full-fledged Boeing 737800 flight simulator from the comfort of your hotel room. The hotel has multiple plans for guests looking to try out the simulator, with options to spend the night or just book a 90-minute session with an instructor for 32,400 yen (£240). The session allows you to “fly” from the comfort of your pajamas!
A wheelchair friendly hiking trail at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park
Run from Dinosaurs: Jurassic World 5k Race
Guests who are in wheelchairs and need the extra special assistance can now enjoy Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park with the help of an extra special new feature. The new track chair program was recently introduced in the park last May and allows guests who require assistance on the hiking trails to reserve the chair, free of charge, for guided hikes at the national park. While the chair is currently only available for use on the Bay View Trail, it will hopefully be opened to additional trails down the line. Visitors looking to use the chair can make a reservation at least three days in advance, with a host helping users get comfortable on the chair before heading out on the trail.
If you're up for an adventure with the kid's, Jurassic World at the Universal Hollywood has got a rather heart pumping race coming up. This November, fans and athletes alike can take dinosaur selfies, enjoy Jurassic World photo ops and run throughout the California theme park during the Jurassic World 5K Race. There’s even a 1K Raptor Run for kids. The actual race will be themed from scenes from the movie so get ready to actually run!

Mini toiletries to be removed from Holiday Inn owner's hotels The hotel crackdown on plastic bottles If you're used to relying on miniature toiletries when staying at a hotel, you may need to remember to bring your own next time round. Hotels around the globe are cracking down on plastic usage in hotels, and they're starting off with their miniature toiletries. So far, miniature toiletries are to be removed from all hotels run by InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) for environmental reasons - making it the first global hotel brand to undertake the move. The UK-based owner of Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza hotels has pledged to take the small plastic bottles out of its 843,000 rooms by 2021. Last year, IHG said it would stop using plastic straws by the end of 2019. while adding that "the next big thing to tackle" would be the plastic plates and cutlery used for its breakfast service. While the change is work in process, it's definitely a good start to becoming environmental friendly.
Singapore’s Historic Raffles Hotel Reopens After Two-Year Restoration An icon of Singapore’s history has been restored and is now open again. The Raffles Hotel, which first opened in 1887 and was declared a National Monument by the government a century later, has now reopened after an extensive renovation that started two and a half years ago."The newly restored Raffles will provide an experience like no other," said Christian Westbeld, the hotel's general manager. Already known for it's luxury accommodation, top of the class services, and luxurious services, facilities, and amenities, one can only imagine (for those of us that have yet to visit!) how much more luxurious this popular hotel can get!
ABU DHABI WITH CHILDREN? YOU BET! WORDS BY NISBAH HUSSAIN
PAGE 8
In the blistering heat, my little adventurers despite their scarlett cheeks from the sweltering heat, continue down the marble walk but stop short in awe of the sight which awaits them. With sunlight radiating from every crevice of the Sheikh Zayed mosque, the monumental structure is truly an awe-inspiring feat and beautiful to boot. Watching your children’s eyes fill with wonder is what brings the joy of family travel to life!
Abu Dhabi, once only known as the business and financial hub of the United Arab Emirates, is surprisingly still overlooked by family travellers despite the Emirate brimming with family-friendly adventures. The skyscrapers and business feel are still present, but the pace of Abu Dhabi is much slower and is a lovely destination to relax, unwind and enjoy all the things that make family adventures what they are. We have adventured in the Emirate twice in the last few years and have had a wonderful time. Abu Dhabi is an ideal stopover destination as the airport is one of the major flight hubs connecting the world.
ADVENTURE JUNKIES Our little adventurers love fast and adrenaline-filled adventures, so a visit Ferrari world was the obvious first stop. Home to both the fastest rollercoaster in the world and the biggest loop ride my girl adventurer raced off to try both of these and loved them. Even though the theme park is filled with a small number of rides, it is all indoors, which is ideal regardless of the scorching temperatures outdoors, and there is more than enough for a day visit. Plus all the available rides are supercharged with adrenaline-filled ideal for those over 10 years old. For the younger lovers of rides, there are the Warner Brothers studios.
For the teens and older, Abu Dhabi is also home to Yas Marina Circuit which hosts Fortumla 1 races and also offers a multitude of travel experiences for visitors. One of our highlights was that twice a week, the circuit hosts a free family-friendly event, where you can hire bicycles (there are some with stabilisers at a small cost), and you can cycle across the race track. It was an entertaining activity to take part in and will forever be ingrained in my little adventurer’s memories.
CULTURE VULTURES Postcard-perfect and synonymous with Abu Dhabi, if there is one place that should be on your Abu Dhabi bucket list, it is Sheikh Zayed mosque. The mosque opens daily, and it is indeed an architectural feat and is stunning from every angle. There are several tours if you wanted to learn more about the mosque, but we found it relaxing to take the sights in at our own pace.
The recently opened Lourve museum is home to stunning art pieces but also contains a specific children’s museum which aims to inspire young artists and has several interactive exhibits which are an ideal way to world school little adventurers.
RELAXATION As fun as exploring a destination far and wide can be, with little adventurers in tow, it is always a good idea to build in plenty of downtime and relaxation. There are several beaches which are fun and great to unwind. Yas Beach is perfect, surrounded by gorgeous turquoise blue waters, and for those who are staying on Yas Island hotels, entrance to the beach is included. For those in the city, Corniche Beach is a lovely place to unwind.
Shopping while may not be the first thing you would imagine would be relaxing with little adventurers, but the shopping malls, mainly Yas Mall always felt more peaceful tan the Dubai Malls and they have lots of child-friendly shops, many of which have a few child-friendly interactive things to occupy little adventurers. One of our favourite shops is the Virgin store which has a red slide which you can slide down instead of taking the stairs from the first floor to the storefront.
SOMETHING UNIQUE As part of our travels, we love to showcase and road test more off the beaten path attractions, and we have found one of the most unique at the Falcon Hospital. Falconry is huge business in Abu Dhabi, and each of these Falcons is an important member of the family. Visitors can book a visit and see a fully functioning falconry hospital. It was fascinating to see operations being performed and how the treatment is administered to injured birds.
WHERE TO STAY I love that Abu Dhabi has so many options for hotels and there is something for every budget and city hotels, surprisingly, the rooms are an ideal size for families. Unlike other destinations, staying in the top class, fivestar hotels don’t break the bank, and it is affordable. There are some extra special hotel choices which offer travellers something a little unique. Emirates Palace is a truly unique and breathtaking hotel, and its opulence defined. The hotel is extravagant through and through, and gold is the flavour of the day. Yas Hotel is an excellent choice for sports lovers. From the hotel rooms, you can see the race track, and the design of the building is stunning. One of my favourite hotels is the worlds furthest leaning man-made tower, the Andaz Capital Gate.
WHERE TO EAT Abu Dhabi is an incredible place to try a vast array of halal international cuisines. The level of choice is incredible from food from all over the globe and the fact it is halal means that there is something new and fresh to try for each type of traveller. With the likes of Cheesecake Factory, PF Changs, Cascade Dining, there are some excellent choices. Cascade dining is a beautiful place to enjoy dinner and is the perfect location to see the fountains, which is the newest addition to the malls.
Abu Dhabi is an ideal location for a family trip, from grand hotels to great food to an abundance of activities you will be spoilt for choice and have an incredible adventure.

MAKING HAJJ WHILE YOUNG WRITTEN BY CHANTAL BLAKE
This month, if you happen to be traveling through major international airports, you will likely see throngs of middle-aged and elderly pilgrims in white garb, huddled in groups, shuffling their way towards the Holy Land. Many have waited their entire lives for this trip—patiently saving their funds to afford the journey or waiting to obtain a visa. Regardless, many pilgrims tend to be older adults who have raised their children, settled their worldly affairs, and are ready to join the sacred caravan. Surprisingly, the population of younger adults fulfilling their hajj rites is increasing, and there are so many advantages to doing so.
Undoubtedly, the hajj pilgrimage is strenuous. Circumambulating the ka’bah or pacing between Safa and Marwa aren’t incredibly taxing tasks on their own or at your leisure, but performing them in a crowd of millions while vying for the same space is no small feat. Sleeping on the rocky earth in Muzdalifa, trekking to the tent city in Mina, and the daily hike to stone the jamaraat are challenging when pressed in a slow-moving mass of people. Needless to say, the experience will challenge your stamina, health, and patience. While some elders find it difficult to cope and may need medical attention to recuperate, youth will likely have the energy and vigor to persist and recover more quickly. More importantly, they have an amazing opportunity, which some call the mark of an accepted pilgrimage—they can be of service and assistance to other pilgrims, who we refer to as “guests of the Most Merciful”.
Young adults generally have less logistics to sort out, depending on their family dynamic. If one is not yet married or not a parent, full attention and focus can be dedicated to the hajj, without having to tend to family and responsibilities back home. Many believe that hajj is for those who’ve attained a high degree of religiosity. However, we must remember that hajj is an obligation for every adult Muslim who is capable. Hajj is not a crown of piety, and it may actually be the transformative event that helps young adults rededicate themselves to the service of God and humanity. It’s a humbling experience to see yourself as such a tiny part of the whole. All pilgrims of various nationalities, whether wealthy or poor, sinful or pious, don the same unstitched garments and call out to the same Generous Lord with the cry “I am answering you, Oh God!”

CHECKLIST: THE WATERSPORTS BUCKET LIST
BY AMBER SWEETMAN
We have picked out a range of exciting water sports you must tick of the list this summer, ranked in skill and confidence level to make water sports accessible for all. Don’t miss out on the beauty of the waters and abundance of opportunity in your holiday destination that you may have not taken full advantage of before!
BEGINNER
An ideal water sport for beginners, this calming activity will perfectly complement your holiday; paddle boarding. Many resorts offer free non-motorized water activities, but in other areas, this is an affordable activity in which you can immerse yourself into the open waters.
BEGINNER- INTERMEDIATE
For those who wish for a more water contact-based activity, body-boarding is the answer, with the boards themselves readily available at most beach and souvenir shops sold for as cheaply as €10 around Europe. Now you have a board; it's time to catch a wave, it's no more complicated than that! Swim out as far as you wish using your board as an aid and turn back to face the glorious shore before jumping on and holding on tight as the waves carry you back.
INTERMEDIATE
INTERMEDIATE- EXPERT
With many locations offering the thrill of white water rafting from the U.S to the Philippines and Italy; why not give it a go? This sport will give a whole new meaning to the phrase “adrenaline rush”, therefore suitable for the more intermediate individual. This activity is ideal for groups, but if you are an individual and want to partake in this exciting opportunity, you can join other thrill-seekers making it another affordable water sport that you won’t regret spending on.
Deep-sea diving: a water sport slightly more difficult sport as it requires a strong swimmer and the ability to remain calm and sensitive to life below the water. You have to option to pay for an instructor who will guide your experience and spend time with you in the water. See a range of beautiful underwater scenery as well as anything from fish and crabs to sharks! We suggest the Indian Ocean, specifically Bali, to experience the colourful mesmerising depth of the waters. Deep-sea diving is a water sport providing surreal experiences to all who try it.
EXPERT
Surfing: one of the traditional sports of the water something we consider a must-try for the more experienced water lovers. A sport that takes precision and endless practice but once perfected glide gracefully at one with the wave crests. We recommend the Atlantic Ocean due to its powerful winds creating the ideal mighty waves. We recommend specifically Morocco where hiring boards is easily accessible on many of the main beaches. Get ready to soak up the sun on every wave you catch.
Many resorts specifically in The Maldives and Mauritius offer free water sports and non-motorised activities which can include snorkelling, deep-sea diving or surfing. Boards, helmets and breathing apparatus provided are also provided. So, what are you waiting for? Jump in and experience the diverse use of the waters around you on your trip! PAGE 20

LE MORNE'S JEWEL
ST. REGIS MAURITIUS Words by Sharmeen Ziauddin
Everyone has that one holiday which stands out amongst the rest. For my family, our stay in St. Regis in Mauritius was the one. It’s that resort that I compare to all other resorts, and so far no other has measured up. Less than ten years old, located in the Le Morne region (southwest Mauritius) St. Regis oozes luxury, character and sophistication. With its regal decor and candlelit lamps across the resort, it radiates a warm and homely feel. I went with my husband and three children who were made to feel very welcome. St. Regis has all the usual facilities which you would expect from a 5-star beach resort, a spa, kids club, gym, tennis court, watersports centre, two swimming pools, including a heated one which is welcome in their winter months (June-September).
PAGE 22
There’s no animation team or a buffet restaurant in sight, St.Regis is way too cool for that. Yes, that’s right, the only buffet here is the breakfast one! So what makes St. Regis so special? First of all, on arrival we were given some refreshing drinks and hot towels, as they knew we travelled a long way to get there! We had two adjoining rooms which were connected through the bathrooms, making it feel like a huge apartment. All guests are designated a ‘butler’ to assist them with anything they may need. In essence this is a guy who will do everything to make your stay as comfortable and hassle-free as possible. He booked all our dinner reservations, delivered us mineral water and biscuits daily and did our ironing all with a big smile! (Two garments complimentary per person — This was a nice touch as let’s face it no-one wants to iron on holiday).
But really what made our holiday extraordinary were the dining options. The food at St. Regis is phenomenal and to have halal A’la Carte fine dining options included in ‘half board’ is something pretty special. As a foodie, I was in heaven. Our favourite was The Floating Market with its out of this world Laksa and desserts. Everything we ate here was beautifully presented, we even got amusebouches. To have access to these fine dining restaurants in your meal plan really blew us away, as with three young children it’s not always easy to visit these kinds of places in the UK or abroad. St. Regis are so accommodating that their vast kid’s menu is available in all of their restaurants, so everyone is happy! La Manoir is the French inspired Mauritian dining room at St Regis, a favourite here was the slow roasted lamb. The Boathouse is the Continental dining option with steaks, pasta and yummy things galore, all presented impeccably. We loved the Australian Rib eye steak and the views of the ocean here made our meals extra special. How did I get through food options without mentioning breakfast? The buffet breakfast which was a huge hit with the children had that sophisticated yet personal feel that you don’t usually get with the usual chaotic international buffet breakfasts. The melt in your mouth French Toast was the most memorable, given the French influence in Mauritius, I’m not surprised they nailed this.
PAGE 23
The juicing lady was a real hit as she got my kids to try beetroot juice and all sorts of weird and wonderful combinations. That’s right, one delightful lady dedicated solely for juicing purposes at breakfast. Fresh apple, carrot, beetroot, pomegranate, aloe vera, orange juice amongst many others all juiced and ready. You name it and she’ll juice it. The grounds of St Regis are stunning surrounded by palm trees and flowers. Most rooms face the beach giving tremendous sea views. Leave your room, walk ten metres and you’re on the beach. Two metres into the water, and you’ll be able to see coral and fish. That’s one of the beauties of the Indian ocean, that your room can literally open up on to the beach. The water is shallow so children can go in safely too, again a huge plus point for young families. Another great thing about St. Regis is the sunsets. The way it’s positioned you can catch amazing sunsets from outside your room. But you have to be quick because they tend to disappear very quickl If you really want to relax after dinner there is a Library, Drawing Room and a bar area where a mini grand piano sits providing light musical entertainment a couple of hours in the evening.
So what did we do for fun other than eat? The water sports centre provided complimentary snorkelling, pedallos, glass bottom boat trips, waterskiing and paddle boarding. We pretty much tried all of these things as usually you have to pay extra so we took full advantage of this. Turns out water skiing is much harder than it looks! There are also free hiking excursions and cycling trips for the more adventurous types so that you can explore La Morne Brabant mountain which provides the backdrop for the St. Regis. Of course you can’t talk about St. Regis and not mention the diving opportunities. La Morne peninsula is unspoilt and you can dive all year round. My husband took his first dive here and loved it! Despite the luxurious surroundings, there is no pretentious vibe at St. Regis here at all which was really important for us. And because of this it was a truly memorable family holiday. @britpakgirl @britpakgirl britpakgirl.com

HEALTH TIPS
STAY C
L THIS SUMMER -Summer Health Tips
1
WEAR COTTON
2
Soft, breathable and lightweight, cotton is one of the best materials for hot weather. It also soaks up sweat, allowing heat to escape the body and for you to stay cool. Cotton comes in countless styles and colors, meaning you can find a cotton garment to fit pretty much any need.
3
PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT YOU EAT AND DRINK
Probably the most obvious tip, we all now how important it is to stay hydrated whether it be on a daily basis or during the summer days. Whether your driving, out for a walk, lounging in the sun, or relaxing at home, keep a bottle of water near by.
4
Did you know your diet affects how you can manage your body’s response to high temperatures? Eat less salty food and protein and eat more fruits and vegetables. It's also best to eat smaller, frequent meals.
5
LEARN THE SIGNS OF HEAT STROKE AND HEAT EXHAUSTION.
RINSE YOUR WRISTS Wondered how this one helps? Washing either your wrists or your feet with cold water before you hit the hay can help you to cool down and drift off! Next time you find it hard to get some shut eye don't forget to give your wrists & feet a good rinse.
SEEK OUT INDOOR ACTIVITIES While you want to make the most of the sun, on some days it may be best to stay indoors! There are plenty of family friendly activities to keep you occupied. Now's the perfect time to get the boardgames out!
6
Dizziness, a rapid pulse, nausea, headache and fainting are all signs of a heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Though symptoms can vary, if you or a loved one starts to feel any of the above, get to a cool place ASAP. 7
KEEP HYDRATED
WEAR LOOSE, LIGHTWEIGHT, LIGHTCOLORED CLOTHING, The worst thing you want to feel when your hot is sticky! Stay comfortable by wearing clothes that are loose and light wear as they will help you keep cool and comfortable.
8
STOCK UP ON ICE You can never have enough ice! Apart from staying hydrated, making sure you've got enough ice ready to break the heatwave is a must! Perfect for drinks, or a face towel, ice is the next best thing (possibly better!) to water.

TECT YOUR SKIN -Skin Protection Musts
With the excitement of the summer and the glistening sun, many of us tend to forget how important it is that we protect our skin. While getting a tan is a popular past time during the summer holidays, ensuring we responsibly enjoy the sun is a must!
1
USE SUNSCREEN We can't stress enough how important it is to apply sun lotion. Whether you're looking to get a tan or not, too much exposure to the suns rays isn't healthy for our skin, and can even cause skin cancer. Apply a reasonable amount every 2 hours for best results.
2
LIMIT SUN EXPOSURE Limit the amount of time you spend under the direct sun. It's best to enjoy direct sunlight in intervals, while taking breaks every now and then in the shade. While staying under the sun is a good source of Vitamin D, too much exposure isn't heathly.
3
STAY HYDRATED Probably one of the most obvious, yet one we tend to forget. Staying hydrated is so important when enjoying the sun. Heat strokes are very common and can attack adults and even children of all ages. Make sure you stock up on your water supply and have enough with you at all times. Becoming dehydrated can cause serious issues.
4
WEAR PROTECTIVE CLOTHING While you want to enjoy as much of the sun as you can, wearing a hat can be a great to help you keep cool and prevent your head and eyes from the direct sunlight. Even a light shawl can come in handy for those that don't want to be exposure for too long.
5
TREAT YOUR SKIN GENTLY When it comes to the products you use, it's recommended to use soaps, lotion, and other products that are gentle to your skin, meaning they do not have strong ingredients in them. Depending on how sensitive your skin is, many products can do more harm than help due to the toxic ingredients.
TIPS ON HOW TO TAKE "INSTAGRAM-ABLE" TRAVEL PHOTOS LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION Location is critical when taking the ideal shots for your Instagram page; find spots that show the beauty and uniqueness of wherever you are travelling to. To get ideas and brainstorm and even help choose a location, search Instagram-able places in‌ but consider many people may do the same so be prepared for the business of many others trying t achieve the perfect shot! Plan and organise to visit your location in the quietest time possible to avoid rushing taking the shot and genuinely enjoying the area at the same time.
RESPECT Many destinations across the globe welcome those who come to some of there most picturesque aesthetic spots with open arms. But consider the poignancy of it religiously or historically and respect the sight. Most importantly try to remember that you are a visitor of the destination and you should respect it as you would if it was one of your treasured hotspots. By showing respect and listening to instructions of security, you may find they will allow you to enjoy the experience for longer. If all visitors are to barge and act disrespectful, this could result in being turned away from the location and others being restricted further.
PEOPLE AND PLACES Naturally, with travel photography, we want to see people and places! The key focus is the location you are exploring, of course, but not only this; your followers will relate more to faces! Not all of your images have to include a beautiful backdrop. Why not use yourself or your travel partner trying local cuisine or trying an exciting activity? Alternatively, attempt to capture unusual scenery that will draw your followers to be intrigued into your travels. We've all seen a beach pic a couple of hundred times, so keep your Instagram posts original!
TIPS ON HOW TO TAKE "INSTAGRAM-ABLE" TRAVEL PHOTOS FILTER AND ADJUST Once taken, utilize the filter and adjust features of Instagram's easy to use the prepost-editing tool. We suggest minimal editing and untampered photography is the most effective yet smart tools can be used to enhance the beauty of your image! Why not try the colour adjustment, which allows you to bring out a specific colour in your image. For example, with a water or sky backdrop, you can bring out the blue in this picture, making it more piercing or softer tonnes to get the focus on the subject.
CAPTION IT RIGHT The ultimate finishing touch: the caption. Keep it relevant, find a healthy in between; showing your love for your recently discovered location without boasting. As I'm sure, we'd all love to be laid upon the beach watching a purple sunset or exploring historical ruins.
KEEP IT FUN As much as we give you full reign to go Instagram crazy and take and post a whole realm of photos of your destination, remember to enjoy the trip and watch you get to see, hear taste and overall experience beyond behind the lens of your camera or phone. Be present and enjoy the "Instagramable" locations yourself, there not only for your followers to enjoy!
