Independent living: it’s something we often take for granted. For Kevin and Kerry Dumas, living independently is a daily challenge. At 18, both were tragically paralyzed in separate events that altered the way they live forever. Determined to support themselves as much as possible, Kevin and Kerry have been employed for the past seven years by Showcase Photographers, a local real estate photography company in Middle Tennessee. Kevin has the use of his hands and edits photos, while Kerry has mobility from her neck up. She uses her mouth to input data for our tours. We are fortunate to have such hardworking, honest, and inspiring individuals to work with us. Now they need our help...and yours. We are raising money for Kevin and Kerry to purchase a new, custom van that Kevin can drive using his hands. Their current van is over 17 years old and has major mechanical failures that they simply cannot afford to repair with a budget maxed out by the high cost of home health care ($45,000 annually). Currently, they drive themselves to church, the bank and the grocery, but are fearful to go anywhere else. When asked what this vehicle would mean to them, they both responded, “Freedom!” The goal of The Dumas Fund is to give them their independence back.
