Leisurely Lowcountry Living Distinction and Authentic Style at the Water’s Edge: Now Maintenance-Free, anks to Innovative Architectural Trim “It’s so much more than just icing on the cake,” says homeowner Debbie Vogler about the gleaming white trim that embellishes her family’s authentically detailed new Lowcountry home on the Manatee River. “It’s keeping our place fresh-faced and beautiful, protecting it from the elements, and helping make riverside living a carefree experience.” As Debbie and her husband, Ed, started planning their Bradenton residence in 2014, they knew they wanted a home with a one-of-a-kind personality expressed in outdoors-oriented, Lowcountry terms. They were just as eager to avoid the intensive maintenance the region’s climate traditionally demands. Working with Tampa-based architect Don Cooper (of Cooper Johnson Smith) and with Ken Keating (of Camlin Home Corp. in Bradenton), the Voglers reached all of their goals thanks to an innovative replacement for conventional, painted wooden trim: a handsome, super-durable material called cellular PVC. Mr. Keating, a custom homebuilder for more than 30 years, explains: “I’m a stickler about authentic detail, so I’ve always been cautious about ‘faux’ materials. But the PVC we specified for the Vogler house—a premium-grade system called VERSATEX— made me a believer.” The Voglers, he adds, were enthusiastic about trying the new material and delighted with the results. 10 | LuxuryHomeMagazine.com

Duplicating the look of wooden millwork, while standing up to moisture, salt and sun indefinitely, Mr. Keating says, VERSATEX PVC never needs painting. “Not only can it reproduce characteristic Lowcountry mouldings, pillars and railings, but it lends itself to one-of-a-kind, 21st-century interpretations that would be difficult or impossible to fabricate with old-school materials — or less precisely manufactured PVC brands.”
