nterior home design has seen its share of trends. And depending on the region and the season, there will always be another it style, color, or pattern. Thankfully, architectural styles are more enduring and the structure of a well-built home is always in fashion. Although architecture is a big-picture concept, it is composed of countless details to achieve the final spectacular product. If you would like to highlight the existing architectural details in your luxury home or incorporate additional accents, take note of the following tips and tricks. What Are Architectural Details? Architectural details can be understated like crown molding or dramatic like columns. Regardless of the statement a detail makes, give your home the finishing touch with some of these elements. The entryway provides the first impression for your entire home. Include grand columns, stained glass, a specialty door knocker, stylish shutters, or a hand-carved front door. In the foyer, pay special attention to a single or double staircase and a personalized tile floor. Tile can also be effectively utilized throughout the home to personalize a kitchen or bath. Arched or statement doorways can help provide a graceful transition between rooms. In the living room, there are endless possibilities. Highlight the fireplace and mantel with a spectacular surround. Add built-ins to display your literary collectibles or treasured family photos. A window seat creates an unexpected yet welcoming corner to curl up and read. In any room, unconventional ceilings such as coffered, tray, or exposed beam make a statement. For a dramatic visual difference both day and night, change up your paint colors. Although it might not be obvious that it is repurposed, it gives you the opportunity to use conscious luxury materials, and you’ll inherit a great story in the process. Photographing large open interior spaces can be challenging because you have several different options to consider in hopes of capturing that one money shot. The photo below was a reshoot for Myra Brandt and Renée Hampton of Kahala Associates. Here are some tips I shared with Myra and Renée during the reshoot. TIP #1: Maximize exterior views. If the interior space has captivating exterior views, such as ocean views, your first step might include determining an angle that maximizes these views. TIP #2: Rearrange the furniture. Not only can you rearrange the furniture to accommodate an angle that maximizes exterior views, but you could also try spacing out the furniture more to make the room look more spacious.

TIP #3: Minimize shooting the backs of chairs and couches. Instead, think about shooting over the top of chairs and couches. TIP #4: Minimize the amount of walls in the photo. This tip can also make the room look more spacious.
