How did you get into real estate?
When my children were in elementary school and I was soon to be a single mother of two, I knew I wanted an exciting career to occupy my time. I wanted to work with interesting people and make an impact on others. Because I love numbers and have a marketing degree from the University of Texas, real estate was the obvious solution. I have never looked back.
In March of 2011, I decided to open my own independent residential real estate firm. I was constantly noticing a gap in the market – there was not a company that truly served the buyer and seller. After working for a large firm, followed by managing a smaller company, I knew it was time for me to open a boutique firm that focused on all the philosophies I had collected over the years. I wanted a firm that catered to the client instead of the bottom line and offered easy access to information through helpful agents and a user-friendly website. We help the agents focus on the client, which has led to our success and hard-working reputation. Do you consider yourself competitive?
Absolutely. More than anything I compete with myself - I always want to work to the best of my capabilities. Of course I want to succeed, but at the end of the day, I rest easy if I know I have tried my very hardest to do the right thing. At Corie Properties we have a different take on competition – we strive to ensure every client is satisfied and would refer their friends to us, rather than trying to complete more sales and transactions. Our clients are our priority. Is your logo symbolic?
It is. I have always loved the beautiful Rose Windows that can be found in the Missions of San Antonio. One of my closest friends is a graphic artist and I worked with her to create the logo – there are C’s turned in different directions to create a custom “rose window” and we added a circle around it because the company has truly come full circle. We look through the window! Your office exudes a fun vibe. Where did you get inspiration for your decorating?
It really represents our brand – clean, sleek and simple. My business partner, Margaret Barnes, has
a great eye for interior design. We wanted a unique, boutique-style real estate firm with cutting edge technology, so the contemporary style of our office really fits. It's a happy place to work! What/Who is your Inspiration?
My children, husband and mother inspire me every day. My family has always told me to work for what I believe in. My wonderful, supportive husband encouraged me to branch out on my own, and create a real estate company with all the values I believe in. I want them to know that if you work your hardest for the right reasons, good things happen. You are a breast cancer survivor. How has that affected your outlook on business, and life in general?
You have to live life to the fullest! I am so thankful. It may sound strange, but I was blessed by cancer- it helped ground me. I now know that I am here to help spread the word that there is life after cancer. I am very involved in various philanthropies to not only work towards a cure, but to help those going through the same thing I did. I am stronger than ever! You will serve as the President of the Women’s Council of REALTORS* next year. Why do professional affiliations play such a significant role in your career?
I feel that an industry leader must give back to the industry and to the community. Women's Council began in 1938 for the women that were getting the transactions done for the men in real estate. The National Association of Realtors* created an organization that gave women the tools for leadership. The organization was committed to helping women become entrepreneurs and leaders in the industry. It has given me tools to be a leader in Corie Properties and everything I do! I have met numerous incredibly dynamic people from the local, state and national level. The skills and relationships are priceless.
