Steve Frank of Burdick & Frank The lines on the ocean stretched to the horizon, sweeping around the point of mainland covered with jungle on a remote section of the coast. The surfer scanned the oncoming waves, looking for the right combination of angle and speed to set up his takeoff. Nothing else manmade was nearby, just the man and his board reflecting off the ocean’s surface in the early morning light. Now the set of larger waves loomed as the surfer stroked for position. He selected the third wave of the set of five, and streaked down the face, leaping up as the board was catapulted down the nearly vertical drop. The curl heaved out from the top of the breaking wave as the surfer streaked down the face. He turned up and back, staying in the most powerful part of the sectioning face. Faster and faster he went as the wave neared the shore, finally flying over the back of the breaker with his board as it reached its climax.

The surfer paddled his board back out into the channel, and into the lineup, to begin his dance with the ocean once again. Man, board, and ocean as one.

Steve Frank has had the spirit of exploration and drive to excel all his life. His will and drive to learn began at an early age, learning a second language (Spanish), traveling, and pursuing his many interests, including craftsmanship and his intellectual pursuits.

His surfing journeys over several continents, islands, and oceans are tremendous adventures by themselves. Working his way from an apprentice carpenter to a master carpenter to finance his college career is an adventure as well, but of an entirely different nature. Steve graduated from Trinity University in 1980 with a bachelor’s degree in homebuilding. During his time at Trinity, Steve became familiar with Art Burdick’s homebuilding company by using their plans for estimating class. Steve was impressed with the quality and design of the plans, and decided to apply for a position with Art’s company upon graduation. His dream was realized and he began the construction management segment of his career with Art.

Art began his own company, Burdick Custom Homes in 1989. He asked Steve to join him to help build the new company. Steve and Art’s commitment to service, quality, and value built the reputation they enjoy today in the homebuilding community and with the public. In 2000, Burdick and Frank Ltd. was formed, creating the business partnership that Steve and Art desired. Together they are continuing the legacy formed so many years ago. Steve has been personally involved in the construction of nearly five hundred homes in his thirty-four years of association with Art. Steve has built homes in many of the premier

neighborhoods in San Antonio. Now, he is also building custom homes near downtown, including the home that he built for himself and his family in Alamo Heights.

Success comes as a result of hard work, experience, and dedication to high standards. Steve Frank is one of those few that combines high ethical standards with knowledge. Every generation there are exceptional individuals that stand out among their peers. He is a blend of old values and skills, combined with his fluency in Spanish, computer skills, sales knowledge, construction management, and finance. This is a rare combination for today.
