TIM POWELL GENESIS CUSTOM HOMES LUXURY CUSTOM HOME BUILDER How did you start Genesis Custom Homes? I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas and was in the corporate and franchise restaurant business. After successfully building my personal home, a friend encouraged me to start my own company. It was then I realized home building was a true passion of mine so I took his advice and have called San Antonio home since 1993.

What is involved in beginning the home building process? I look at beginning the process of a new home as an artist would before starting a work of art. All things are possible and creativity is endless! The first steps of building begins with selecting a property which accommodates your unique lifestyle. Next, choosing the right architectural designer to help bring your vision to reality is just as important. Finally, consider that the builder you select will be a relationship that will continue far beyond the completion of the project.

What can a client expect when they reach the interior design phase of building? We have four designers we use depending on the home you desire. Whether your style is hill country design, Spanish, Mediterranean, contemporary or any custom blend, we will partner you with the perfect designer. We live in a world of flexibility and the days of recreating new designs of homes happens on a daily basis.

What client experience has left a lasting impression on you? I built a home for a doctor, who through our friendship, introduced me to Harper’s Embrace Lifesaver Program founded by a local physician in San Antonio and his colleagues. The organization began with the unfortunate tragic death of a 4 year old girl named Harper. The organization provides no-cost CPR training to the San Antonio community and it’s an organization I will continue to personally support.

Where do you find inspiration? Inspiration is all around. Sometimes while traveling, from books or photographs in magazines, however, I would have to say the best ideas are the ones that come to me during sleep!

What’s your favorite past time? Traveling with my family, scuba diving and music are some of my favorites. I’ve been traveling to Hawaii for the past 20 years. I fell in love with the “Big Island” when my daughter was stationed there while serving in the Marine Corps. I’ve been scuba diving since 1977 and music has been part of my life since I was a child. My mom and I would sit at the piano singing gospel songs trying to see who could sing the highest! I was a vocalist in my church for 15 years and still today enjoy getting together with friends from various churches to play together.

What’s something you enjoy about San Antonio? There are many things to enjoy including the opportunity to share it with my beautiful wife, Pamela. We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary this year. San Antonio offers easy access to some of the best Mexican food and for me nothing can come close to Chuy’s tortilla soup (I like to consider myself a connoisseur of tortilla soup as I taste it every where I go). Born and raised in Texas, San Antonio is truly a special city!
