enormous steel, wood and glass cabinets for a London mansion. Recent commercial work has included ornate balustrading and bespoke chandeliers for a Venetian style restaurant in St James, Piccadilly. Current projects are varied and include a sweeping balustrade and gates for the grandest of villas in Kazakhstan, a solid bronze balustrade for a house on the Wentworth Estate, and an 80 metre balustrade for amansion on the Bishop’s Avenue. Matt and his specialised team of craftsmen are passionate about their work, and the trademark appearance is one of elegance, balance and fluidity. The detailed quality and artists’ attention to detail are evident in every piece of work, whether on the scale of the ornate baroque staircase balustrading commissioned for a palace, or the delicate filigree ornamentation ordered to complement a piece of furniture. Illuminating an Icon - VIVI at Centre Point Nulty is delighted to have completed the lighting scheme for the all-day dining destination, VIVI, the new restaurant located in the iconic Centre Point in London’s West End. Working alongside Gordon Young Architects and hospitality group rhubarb, Nulty has designed a fun and flexible lighting scheme to complement the playfulness of the interior design whilst respecting the listed heritage of the building. This architecturally interesting space with views across New Oxford Street takes its vibrant interior inspiration from the decade in which it was built, the 1960s. The lighting design showcases the eclectic material palette whilst creating layers of light which help it transform from light and airy during the day, to intimate and sophisticated for evening service. Director Emilio Hernandez comments, “For us a key part of our lighting concept was not only to showcase this unique dining destination, but to also preserve the views when looking out of the building. Lots of our light sources are specifically

concealed in order to counteract any unwanted reflections that could occur from the enormous glazed facade that frames the restaurant.” Once inside the glass fronted entrance, you are greeted by a mix of neon pink slogans, large illuminated industrial lettering replicating the original Centre Point signage and a bespoke light installation, which carefully climbs the wall to draw the eye upwards towards the restaurant.

A bar area to the front has a diffused light integrated under the countertop to elevate the feature tiling, washing it with light and picking up the texture and shapes in the material. A frosted light box is back illuminated and forms the backdrop to the bar, creating an eye-catching drinks display. Suspended above is a curved wine rack that has been fitted with an integrated LED strip, to capture the sparkle in the glassware and further frame the space.

Upstairs opens up onto a central dining area that is defined by a large bespoke chandelier, handmade by designer Vibeke Fonnesberg Schmidt, from layers of custom coloured plexiglass. A floral display placed under the chandelier is highlighted by a discreet downlight purposely hidden between the plexiglass layers to further accentuate the natural shapes of the flowers.

The symmetry that runs throughout the interior design concept continues with the private dining booths. Each area is sectioned off by intricate chain-mail curtains mounted in a curved brass frame, which houses an integrated LED strip to illuminate the exterior, creating a visual barrier and ensuring privacy for diners. Bronze pendants are carefully suspended over tables inside and add further intimacy to each space.

Carefully placed downlights punctuate the main dining area and are grouped together in clusters to create a clean ceiling aesthetic whilst drawing focus onto the dining tables below. A timber backdrop embossed with the brass lettering ‘VIVI’, is grazed with a linear line of light from above, creating a feature wall and highlighting the texture in the wood.

Paul Robinson-Webster Director of VIVI says, ‘Our overarching vision for the project was to ensure that the building’s 1960s heritage was captured in the interiors – we wanted the essence of that iconic decade to run through everything, while also creating a modern, bright and atmospheric space. Rotpunkt urge kbb industry to support further education apprenticeships Award winning designer and manufacturer of quality German Kitchen furniture, Rotpunkt, show its support for further education in the kitchen industry, following the successful submission by FIESTA [Furniture Industry Education and Skills Training Alliance], which has led to IFA [Institute for Apprenticeships] approving new Level 3 apprenticeship standards for Fitted Furniture Design. Helping to ‘provide a clear path into the kitchen industry’, this announcement marks an important step for a qualification that sits just under the Level 4 & 5 FDA Foundation Degree in Kitchen Design, currently offered. Chairman of TKET (The Kitchen Education Trust), Craig Matson said, “To get to this point has taken a lot of time & effort and special thanks should go to the Furniture Makers Company for the financial support they have given towards getting approval of this apprenticeship along with a number of others for the furniture industry. One of the next steps is to develop the existing Foundation Degree in Kitchen Design as an apprenticeship degree, and a survey is currently being circulated to establish the kitchen industry’s appetite for developing higher education options to develop a professional pathway into the industry. In fact, skills shortages are putting significant pressure on the kitchen industry, which is why apprenticeship schemes that encourage new levels of engagement are imperative to safeguard the future of highly skilled kitchen design that is qualified and cutting-edge.” FIESTA plans to call on schools with effect from March 2019, with a view to invite post-graduates to visit key manufacturers throughout a trial period. Boxx Creative’s redesign of Miramonti brings conscious design to the mountains of Northern Italy London-based design studio Boxx Creative completed the interior design of Miramonti, a luxury boutique hotel, in Brescia, Italy. Located just over two hours away from Milan, the hotel is surrounded by stunning natural beauty and is popular for seasonal activities including: skiing, ice climbing, hiking, fly fishing, porcini mushroom picking and wine-tasting at the vineyards nearby. Inspired by its surroundings, Miramonti, meaning mountain view, draws its name and design from nature. A deep terracotta facade evokes the changing seasons and rich natural Italian colour palette. In the bedrooms, the complementary green and blue colour schemes, punctuated with deeper accents, are both balanced and calming. A well-thought-out strategy for the hotel was Boxx Creative’s first step in its transformation; maximising every square foot to increase bedroom numbers, providing flexibility of room use and creating defined room types for couples and families. The Deluxe Doubles provide an appealing space for couples to relax in comfort inside the room or outside on the balcony. The spacious Family Suites have the option to connect through to en-suite

Project The majority of the furnishings were made completely bespoke by a talented artisan in his local workshop. The bedrooms feature wooden headboard panelling, metal framed open cabinetry storage and sturdy desks, each thoughtfully hand-crafted. The unique hand-made wooden flooring with individually controlled underfloor heating system, adds warmth and grounding to each room. Beautiful reeded glass panelled doors with curved frame detailing provide privacy to each en-suite and rippled wooden under-sink cabinets hang beneath attractive natural stone basins.

Boxx Creative redesigned each floor of the hotel and created the interior schemes; drawing on the elements of: earth, fire, air, water, wood and metal. Materials were selected for their authentic properties and link to the surrounding environment and feature in the natural stone wash basins, carved wooden bedframes, solid trunk coffee tables, round metal bedside tables and soft natural fabrics. Nicola Keenan, Interior Designer and Co-founder of Boxx Creative: “We always focus on quality and environmental impact in our work. All design details have been fully considered across the hotel. Carpet made from recycled fibres line the corridors and is inlaid within the sustainable, hand-crafted wooden flooring. Locally sourced and sustainable materials were used wherever possible and the build contractor was chosen for his energy saving principles and employment of workers within the area.”

Nicola Lindsell, Interior Designer and Co-founder of Boxx Creative: “Lighting was incredibly important to the client. We chose Italian designed, Flos feature pendants in each of the en-suites and Scandinavian inspired adjustable wall lights to create an appealing focal point in the bedrooms.” Visitors can experience the new re-design at the hotel from 2019. Miramonti provides a beautiful tranquil place where guests can experience total relaxation in their surroundings, reconnect with nature and rebalance. Owners of Miramonti: “When we decided to redesign the hotel we were conscious of finding a suitable partner that matched our values and design style. We loved working with Boxx Creative as they had a great knowledge of suppliers and long-term sustainable options. Throughout the redesign they presented options which reflected our sustainability goals as well as our overall artistic vision for the hotel.” Boxx Creative worked with Mariell Lind Hansen, the Norwegian interiors and architecture photographer whose artistic style beautifully captured the eclectic mix of natural, Scandinavian inspired and made-to-last design.

Going green: How to bring the outside into your home Going green has never been so popular. More of us than ever are ditching plastics in our daily lives and choosing to enjoy the benefits of the great outdoors. And when it comes to interiors, the trend for ‘bringing the outside in’ is also on the rise. Bringing botanical elements and natural materials into a scheme blurs the lines between garden and home, delivering bursts of colour, texture and vibrancy. “Adding greenery to a scheme is the perfect way to refresh your interior,” says Roselind Wilson, Owner and Creative Director of Roselind Wilson Design. “It breathes new life and energy into a scheme and complements both muted tones as well as darker, moodier palettes. When it comes to an easy way to instantly transform a space, bringing the outside in is definitely the way to go.” THE NATURAL TOUCH We all know that a walk in the countryside is the ultimate stress buster, but it’s a somewhat tricky thing to achieve if you live in the middle of a busy city! So, what’s the solution? Instead of taking yourself into nature; bring nature to you. “We’re naturally drawn to the great outdoors. Being around nature can help us feel refreshed and reinvigorated,” says Roselind. “So bringing natural elements into the home such as plants, flowers, and even indoor trees and ferns, can work wonders to improve our mood and reduce stress levels. Greenery is thought to bring balance and harmony to a space, creating a calm and relaxed mood. When we surround ourselves with the beauty and tranquillity of nature, stresses disappear as we find comfort and reassurance in our natural environment.” 16 Luxury Interiors Magazine March 2019

FAKE IT ‘TIL YOU MAKE IT House plants are all well and good, but what if you’re somewhat lacking in the green-fingered department?! It’s all too easy to forget to water plants, which is one of the reasons why sales of faux versions are booming. “Faux plants really are big news at the moment,” says Roselind. “There have been great improvements in quality, meaning that the best ones are now completely lifelike. They’re also maintenance-free and safer for pets and people with allergies. It’s easy to see why they’re the ultimate way to add instant greenery!” In Roselind Wilson Design’s Eaton Mews North project, the team created an incredible faux living wall in the basement kitchen. Troughs of fake foliage were attached to the wall to create a sea of green which was then covered with a large glass screen. “The result is a dynamic and vibrant backdrop to the dining area which will never go out of style,” says Roselind. “The faux green wall alludes to the idea of outside space, but also creates a sense that the room extends beyond its own boundaries.” Another way to effectively add faux greenery is to follow the ‘Rule of three’ principle as Roselind illustrates in her Holland Park project. Three bright green faux bushes have been placed at regular intervals along the dining table, creating a pleasing symmetry and a link to the hedges in the window boxes outside the property. “The ‘rule of three’ is a design principle that uses groupings of three, or layerings in odd numbers, to create an effect which is pleasing to the eye,” says Roselind. “This approach can be applied to all kinds of elements such as accessories, artwork and furniture. The owners of this period property wanted a simple, pared-down design scheme. The dining room was left white to maximise the light and space, with fresh bursts of greenery to reflect the hedging outside.” March 2019 Luxury Interiors Magazine 17


Feature BRILLIANT BOTANICALS “Botanical prints are a great way to bring the outside in, and they also add a softening effect to interior schemes,” says Roselind. “In the girl’s bedroom in our Richmond project, we wanted to create a bedroom fit for a princess with a soft palette of duck egg blues and lavenders. For the blind we chose a floral fabric with an intricate pattern and rich tones which provides a striking contrast to the geometric rug.” The guest bedroom of this same house also features botanical patterns, this time a dark red floral pattern for the blind which acts as an accent within the calm, understated scheme. “Here, we wanted to create some rustic charm by using different floral fabrics paired with bold stripes and rich textures for a comfortable yet elegant style,” explains Roselind. “We kept the design and furniture simple to prevent the scheme from looking dated, and instead created a modern-rustic feel using pattern, layering and texture.” 3 TOP TIPS FOR BRINGING THE OUTSIDE IN 1) Add greenery “One of the easiest ways to bring the outside in is to add

greenery,” says Roselind Wilson. “However, make sure you take the proportions of the space into account. If you have small rooms, consider hanging plants. And if you’re using a large plant, only include one; whereas for smaller plants, group them together in odd numbers to create a stylish look.” 2) Choose floral patterns Another great way to inject a burst of nature into your home is to incorporate floral patterns, whether for wall coverings, window treatments or upholstery. “Keep in mind that contrasting patterns and sizes will keep things fresh, while too many matching florals will look busy and outdated,” advises Roselind. “Offsetting floral patterns with layers of texture and colour will provide balance and prevent your room from looking overcrowded.” 3) Use natural materials “Add rustic charm by incorporating natural textures such as wicker, rattan and jute into your scheme,” says Roselind. “Also consider using eco-friendly materials. Whether it’s bedding or paint, there is always an ecofriendly option that will have long-term benefits for the planet. For example, linen is more ecologically sound than cotton because it requires significantly less water during processing.”

Flagship city workspace nearing completion as 5-metre Ficus tree is craned onto top floor Construction work at Uncommon’s fourth space and flagship 41,430 sq. ft. flexible office development on Liverpool Street is nearing completion. Officially opening on the 4th April with 850 desks to members, the new addition joins the existing three Uncommon spaces in Borough, Highbury & Islington and Fulham, with more to come in 2019.

Uncommon offers luxury co-working offices in central locations with an emphasis on design led spaces and a focus on health & wellbeing. Their aim is to promote a healthier way of working in an environment that evokes creativity, as well as productivity. The spaces draw inspiration from Scandinavian design with a combination of rich textures and tonal colours to stimulate focus and maintain levels of calmness.


Project In keeping with this, ahead of the opening, the team will be craning in one of London’s largest living trees in a workspace. The craning of the Ficus benjamina tree will be a major operation, with the 500kg/5 metre tall tree having to be lifted in via crane, using 15 strap lifts. In addition to this, a vast tree trunk will also be craned in. The trunk has been halved and polished to form two long desks. Living greenery is central to Uncommon’s wellness strategy and the Liverpool Street space houses over 500 plants, to help filter the air and provide a more natural feel to the space. Central to this is the 5-metre Ficus benjamina tree, situated in the central atrium of the top-floor communal mezzanine space. Surrounding the tree will be hanging chairs, perfect for relaxation or break-out meetings. Native to Asia and Australia the Ficus tree is the official tree of Bangkok and in natural conditions can reach up to 30 metres. This species will be carefully cultivated to ensure it remains a healthy size for its surrounding environment. In addition to meticulously designed spaces, the reception of the Liverpool Street space will feature an interactive light installation, from designer and director, Marcus Lyall. The installation will be activated through pulse; individuals can place their finger on a censor which monitors the heartbeat and in turn, the installation will pulse with each heartbeat, and measure the heart rhythm and depending on the rhythm, the lighting will react in different ways. Speaking of his collaboration with Uncommon, Marcus said: ‘’ I’m currently exploring how light and sound can help us understand our body’s internal signals and as Uncommon have an emphasis on wellness and balance in their spaces, I wanted to explore this combination in a creative way, to showcase how our feelings and senses can be displayed.’’

Complete with a full-service coffee lounge space, the top-floor area will include hot desks, break-out areas and a theatre-style stepped area. Founder and interior designer for all Uncommon spaces, Tania Adir, says “Our goal was simply to create the best flexible office building in London. The building benefits from an unbeatable location and an abundance of natural light, we have then added the elements that make it an Uncommon space. “Over the last few years there has been a major shift in the office market. Flexible office space is no longer the preserve of the unambitious, bland occupier. People demand interesting and versatile space that is flexible enough to adapt as they do. This is appealing to start ups and far larger businesses – our largest occupier currently has 200 workstations.” Tania continues; “The economy is driven by SMEs so we will provide high quality space for our members. Set within The Crosspoint, the cylindrical building, acquired from Lord Sugar’s development company, is Uncommon’s latest flexible workspace, which has been created to appeal to established businesses, scale ups and individuals looking for the best office space in the City of London. The interior fixtures and furnishings have been sourced from Italian artisan designers, specifically for their ergonomic qualities. Stand out pieces include two large custom designed co-working tables from Riva 1920 cut from a single tree trunk, bespoke meeting room tables and sideboards from Cattelan, specially designed angular polished Portoro marble bars, brass and bronze detailing, smoked glass shelving, a feature fire place made from perforated extruded metalwork and hand-crafted, walnutclad relaxation pods. The space also incorporates the principles of Activity Based Working (ABW), which research suggests can help increase productivity and overall effectiveness. ABW is a method, where instead of forcing individuals to carry out the majority of work on a designated desk, it encourages people to recognise that different work activities can be better supported by spaces and features designed specifically for a task. Partly open, with only the top floors left to complete, the Liverpool Street space offers private office space, open-plan working, phone-booth style enclosed areas and a rooftop with views across the city. UK GOVERNMENT MINISTER: UK FURNITURE INDUSTRY MAKES A ‘GREAT CONTRIBUTION TO OUR COUNTRY’ Ms Maggie Throup MP, chair of the All Party Parliamentary Furniture Industry Group (APPFIG), secured a Westminster Hall debate on 23 January 2019 that examined the contribution of furniture manufacturing to the UK economy. Ms Throup used the opportunity to champion UK furniture manufacturing and raised some of the policy issues that the British Furniture Confederation (BFC) has been highlighting. During the debate, Ms Throup raised four key issues: trade and export; standards and regulations; skills and education; and the environment. All of these areas are key BFC policy concerns, which can be found in its manifesto. The debate was well attended by MPs from both sides of the House of Commons and from constituencies across the UK. Richard Harrington MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Business and Industry, responded for the Government. He acknowledged the economic importance of the furniture industry, commented how ‘furniture is fundamental to all our lives’ and provided clarity on the Government’s position on some of the BFC’s key policy concerns. Mr Harrington mentioned that ‘the country has a rich history of producing world-class furniture’. On Brexit, he said: ‘The Government will do everything we can to ensure that the movement of goods remains as frictionless as possible to the benefit of industry across the UK.’ On safety and regulation, Mr Harrington said: ‘We need to maintain the industry’s reputation for excellence in both quality and safety’. On skills and education, he said: ‘The Government are keen to ensure that the industry has the skills it needs’. Mr Harrington concluded the debate 26 Luxury Interiors Magazine March 2019

by stating that he recognised ‘the furniture industry’s great contribution to our country and of the strong position it is in to make a positive contribution to a more sustainable future.’ The chairman of the BFC, Jonathan Hindle, commented: ‘The debate highlighted the important contribution of the UK furniture industry to the UK economy and allowed a number of the industry’s key policy concerns to be discussed. GRAND DESIGNS LIVE TO RETURN TO LONDON WITH A MYRIAD OF NEW FEATURES From the 4th – 12th May 2019, London ExCeL will play host to Grand Designs Live; bringing the height of home and design innovation to London for the 14th year running. Proudly sponsored by Anglian Home Improvements, the show will boast a range of new exhibitors and features, as well as all the usual favourites, with design guru and TV broadcaster, Kevin McCloud leading the event. Whether you are starting out on your first renovation, building a new home, redecorating a room, installing a new kitchen or simply looking for ideas, Grand Designs Live is the must-visit event for anyone wanting to learn about the world of interiors, design and self-build.

As Grand Designs the TV series turns 20 in April 2019, the show will be celebrating with fun and exciting features focused around past and present houses, and their owners. In line with its green agenda, Grands Design Live will work with returning Charity partner for 2019, Friends of The Earth, launching the brand-new movement the ‘Green Finger Campaign’. A Wildlife forest will be created at Grand Designs Live to show visitors how and where to create wildlife friendly environments in whatever outdoor space they have to work with, from a 7 acre plot to a 5sm balcony. Visitors will be invited to take regional specific wildflower seeds away with them to plant and create their own wildlife friendly environment ; then print their fingerprint on a map of the UK to indicate where they live; producing a visual and interactive heat map of where people are supporting the cause. Friends of The Earth will also provide interactive workshops and demonstrations throughout the show, including the construction of wildlife hotels. Grand Designs Live will continue to support their initiative, as launched in May 2018, to reduce the usage of single-use plastics at the show; prohibiting the sale of plastic bottles from all in-show catering points along with the distribution of plastic straws. Plastic cutlery and show goody bags have been replaced with biodegradable alternatives. Visitors to the show will be encouraged to use refillable bottles and water points at the show’s cafes. Eco-minded visitors will also find an all-new area of the show focused on the art of upcycling; showcasing a platform for skilled upcycling designers to give insight into their craft.

Victorian Townhouse, Highgate - LLI Design LLI Design have recently completed a total refurbishment of a 3 storey Victorian townhouse on a leafy residential road in Highgate, a desirable residential area of North London. Our clients wanted to create a warm, comfortable home with modern touches. Although the house was in reasonable condition, the joinery and fittings throughout the house were dated, had been well used and looked tired. Many of the period features had been stripped out and those that remained had not been maximised. The house lacked character and personality although it benefited from ‘good bones’, nicely proportioned rooms, a delightful garden and a handsome exterior. LLI Design felt that more could be made of the period features, enhancing some and reinstating others to bring out more of the Victorian feel of the property. The brief was to create a warm, comfortable and welcoming home referencing and emphasising the house’s Victorian past as well as adding more contemporary elements to the scheme. Layout The house comprised of c. 2500 sqft / 230 sqm spread out over 3 floors including a cellar and a lovely rear garden. The ground floor comprised of a generous hall leading to 2 connecting reception rooms and at the end of the hall an extended kitchen. There was a small WC and stairs down to the cellar. It was decided to leave the cellar as it was and use it for additional storage. The first floor is divided into 2 bedroom suites. The Master Suite; comprising a good size principle bedroom with steps down to an ensuite and off the master bedroom, a small dressing room. 30 Luxury Interiors Magazine March 2019

Project We created a Nursery Suite at the front of the house comprising of a sizeable bedroom and an ensuite bathroom. On the half landing up to the second floor is a kid’s bedroom and on the top floor a Family Bathroom, Guest bedroom and a generous Study Room. Ground Floor - Entrance Hallway Although the entrance hallway was a good size it lacked character. We reinstated the stained glass in the fan light window above the front door and side window, in a bespoke design, bringing light, colour and texture into the hallway. The original tiled floor had long been removed so we re-tiled the whole of the entrance hall in crisp black and white period tiles with a border pattern. This immediately visually increased the size and lightness of the hall area. Considering the overall size of the house almost no provision had been given to coats storage, so as not to compromise the size of the hall we nibbled a small amount out of the generous dining room adjacent to the hall in order to create a generous cloaks cupboard. This created a small return in the dining room; so that this wasn’t visually intrusive in the dining room we ensured that the coving, skirting and dado detail wrapped seamlessly around the new return. The new return had the added advantage of creating an alcove for a sideboard, thus making the whole alteration seem natural. We commissioned Nigel Tyas to produce a dramatic copper and glass pendant light in the stairwell that hung from the top floor ceiling down to the ground floor, giving a visual connection and really creating a wow factor. Ground Floor - Living & Dining Room In the living and dining rooms we specified new light greyed oak parquet floors and traditional white marble fireplaces, in one of which we installed a wood burning stove. Bespoke pale grey lacquer joinery was designed and installed either side of the fireplaces in both rooms, incorporating plenty of storage, with asymmetrical shelving which we lit with

individual accent in joinery spotlights. At the side of one of the fireplaces we incorporated a black steel log store. Both the dining and living rooms had the original ornate plaster ceilings, however they had been painted white throughout and were visually lost. We really brought this feature out by painting the plaster relief in close, but contrasting, tones of grey to emphasis the detail. Ground Floor - Kitchen The kitchen extension, although a good size, was rather dark, with a wall of folding sliding doors on one side at the back overlooking the garden. The architectural style was traditional and in keeping with the architecture of the house. We enhanced the rear extension by adopting a contemporary aesthetic, installing folding sliding doors in dark grey aluminium on 2 sides, which allowed in copious amounts of light and gave a real sense of connection with the garden. We redesigned the existing kitchen to suit the family. Creating a bespoke joinery kitchen in lacquer with walnut drawers and interiors. The styling is contemporary classic in soft colours with plenty of storage, including a generous larder and breakfast cupboard to house a kettle and toaster as well as a small wine fridge. Thus eliminating all clutter with everything being behind doors when not required. We specified a boston sink along with a composite worktop and added colour with ceramic deep blue tiles as a back splash. We designed and fabricated bespoke metal brackets from which to suspend 3 glass pendant lights which hover over the island below the glass skylight. First Floor - Master Suite - Dressing Room The dressing room was re-designed with bespoke oak full height units to make the most of the space. Project around. Delicate downlights in the shelves add interest to the room. An accent ceiling light was added for dramatic effect. First Floor - Master Suite - Master Ensuite The master ensuite, which overlooked the garden, was redesigned and fitted with a large double wall hung vanity unit, with elegant composite basins on a thick natural stone shelf with a lacquer vanity unit underneath, wall mounted taps and double mirrors above. A sculptural composite free standing bath sits near the window. We specified a large matt tile for the floor, steps and walls, with a contrast ceramic polished narrow rectangular tile for the shower enclosure. Dramatic lighting under the vanity unit and in the shower alcove add to the sense of well being. First Floor - Nursery Suite (Bedroom 2) The Nursery suite was redesigned, with playful illustrated cloud roman blinds and a colourful watercolour dot wallpaper. The ensuite bathroom was redesigned featuring a wall hung vanity unit with deck mounted basin and a bath with a shower over. Second Floor - Bedroom 3 We created a fun playful childs bedroom on the half landing featuring a playful illustrated fox roman blind. Lighting Design To enhance the interiors a new lighting scheme was designed and specified including new fittings and garden lighting which adds the feeling of the garden and terrace being an additional “Outdoor room”. An Intelligent Lighting system was installed in order to create moods, ambience and timed events internally and externally, controlled from wall mounted keypads and also by iPads / iPhones. Summary By subtle changes to the spaces and by adding texture, color and interesting material choices we were able to create a warm, comfortable and welcoming family home. We have achieved a harmonious and calm aesthetic throughout with modern touches within a timeless design.

L’Occitane flagship store on Regent Street, London, opened 2018 FutureBrand UXUS teamed up with French natural beauty, skincare and fragrance brand, L’Occitane en Provence to create a retail experience in the brand’s first flagship store on Regent Street. FutureBrand UXUS designed a new immersive experience that offers customers a luxurious and sensorial exploration of L’Occitane’s full range of natural beauty products, all inspired by the south of France art de vivre and Provençal beauty secrets. FutureBrand UXUS’ vision for the space was translated into an enchanting retail experience with education and trial at the core, sharing the L’Occitane beauty of life philosophy with the curious customer. Tate Modern Shop on Bankside, London, opened 2016 This retail space by FutureBrand UXUS is housed at the base of the gallery’s distinctive pyramid extension which was designed by Herzog & de Meuron. The concept of this store design was to create a space that occupies the crossroads of culture and commerce and invites visitors to explore the world of art through the museum’s retail expression. Part shopping destination, part cultural hangout, it was designed as a ‘permanently temporary’ space with the flexibility to respond to the gallery’s fastchanging exhibition and project schedule. Young by Michael Young - Sofa and easy chair for urban spaces When space is scarce there is no room for errors and furniture needs to be able to deliver more than good looks – and this is exactly what the Young sofa and easy chair by Michael Young do. Making a sofa that’s ideal for two people to socialise and also be able to find some privacy in, is a delicate equation where the proportions need to be just right. Add great comfort and style and you have Young by British designer Michael Young, who dives into the Swedish design sensibility in his first collaboration with Offecct. “Swedes have a good sense of style and I wanted to do something that was somewhat Swedish and simple. Upholstery is one of the most difficult things to do because it’s so uncontrollable, as opposed to product design which is just as much hard work but you know the exact outcome. So I’m very happy that Offecct is realising my take on a casual couch and easy chair, and about our collaboration in general which has given me new insights about upholstery,” says Michael Young. Every angle and element in this sofa and easy chair has been carefully thought out. Quilted textile covers the soft seating, which rests on a delicately shapen wooden frame. The size, appearance and function make Young suitable for public spaces and hospitality areas, as well as offices and domestic spheres where space is limited. “In many urbanised parts of the world where square metres are expensive, there is less room for furniture, so the objects you furnish with have to do a good job in every sense. We wanted a modern club sofa with an adjoining easy chair that not only fits into those smaller

spaces but could also address different needs. It was wonderful to work with Young who understood our mission and also the scale of the objects very well,” says Anders Englund, Design Manager at Offecct.

Keeping it Natural: Drummonds, a dream en suite by Summer Williams This master bathroom by interior designer Summer Williams forms a key part of the refurbishment of a Victorian townhouse. For the owners, this is the first time that they have ever had an en suite and they wanted it to be ultra-luxurious, with a large bath, shower and double vanity, carefully placed to leave the room feeling light and spacious. With the benefit of a designer’s eye, Summer Williams devised a clever floorplan, at the heart of which was Drummonds’ magnificent freestanding cast iron Usk bath, centred under the window. There is a deliberate symmetry in this bathroom, with mirrors, lights and taps also carefully aligned. A simple colour palette of silvers and whites is carried throughout, underlining the sense of space and peace, with built-in storage keeping clutter out of sight to enhance this calm feeling. Drummonds’ freestanding Double Ladybower vanity forms another key focus point in the bathroom and its richly figured Arabescato top is echoed inside the large shower enclosure, creating the sense of a grand wet room within a relatively compact area. The brassware throughout the entire bathroom is also from Drummonds, cast using the lost wax process to create weighty pieces with a forever feel. From taps to baths, Drummonds manufacture their products using traditional processes; an investment in quality which gives them unique permanence and beauty.

Nulty Bespoke Produces Clever Pendants For Pioneering Women’s College in Cambridge Nulty Bespoke brings passion and vision to the design and production of 36 beautiful pendants for the newly opened Porter’s Lodge and entrance of Newnham College. This main reception space serves multiple functions including hosting exhibitions and launch events, and as the first port of call upon entering this highly esteemed seat of learning. The challenge was to create a sense of welcoming warmth while simultaneously addressing the varied practical needs of the space. Surface-mounted lighting fixtures provide a soft, warm, and diffuse lighting effect complementing the architect’s vision of a timber-coffered ceiling. Colour temperature was crucial, as anything cold and austere as a first impression wouldn’t have reflected how the space was intended to be used. The luminaire solution provided by Nulty Bespoke composed mainly of two perfectly proportioned brass disks. The material of brass was selected for its lustrous qualities that not only aptly reflect the college’s revered history but also work best to help bring out the warm tones of the timber ceiling. A series of small LED lights are concealed in the reverse of the lower disk, shining light onto to the larger disk above, creating a rich, lustrous glow in the space. Focused accent lighting is provided via a miniature, retractable LED spotlight housed within the centre of each pendant, flush with the lower brass disk. When housed in its fully recessed ‘resting’ position this downlight serves to shine a warm pool of light on the ground beneath, echoing the rhythm and symmetry of the timber coffers. However, it can also be extended and adjusted to focus light at various angles within the space as necessary, whether it be a historical document in a showcase or a portrait of an alumna on the wall.

All the lighting technology (drivers for the lights as well as emergency batteries) is concealed behind the upper disk. Crucially, this ensures everything that is exposed is purely decorative. The feature luminaire’s indirect lights and focused directional downlight are controlled independently, introducing flexible layers of light, which allows the space to be addressed separately as required.

Omar’s Place, Pimlico Featuring Havwoods End Grain Wood Flooring Transformed in May 2018, this new eatery in London’s Pimlico is a stunning example of a historic building turned bustling restaurant / bar space. The culinary vision of restaurateur and hotelier, Omar Shabaan, the latest London hotspot was designed to establish a ‘neighbourhood haunt’ that seamlessly integrated into its location. The interior needed to be cohesive with the Mediterranean-inspired menu that was to be offered. Tasked with bringing this concept to life was Londonbased commercial design curator Sella Concept, whose team of spacial designers, led by Tatiana von Stein and Gayle Noonan, worked closely with architecture consultants from Wilson Holloway. The result is a space that is as welcoming as it is unique, with a distinctive Milanese aesthetic. A bold mix of materials includes polished terracotta and multi-coloured terrazzo tiles, rust-coloured tubular suede banquette seating set against scalloped Sapele wood slats on the walls. The flooring plays a major role in uniting each design element in the restaurant, with Havwoods’ product

specified to cover the whole surface of the floor. End Grain from the brand’s Henley collection was not only chosen for its durable engineered construction but its unconventional style, too. The natural warmth of this flooring was selected to supplement this bespoke interior, with the design’s distinctive cross-section showcasing the beautifully-organic growth rings of the wood. The product is conveniently supplied in standard length planks, with a tongue & groove fit system, so offering a highly convenient choice for commercial installation but with the visual effect of individual wood tiles when laid. The Henley collection from Havwoods presents a range of high-performance, pre-finished engineered planks with a superior-quality oiled and lacquered surface. An excellent choice for high-footfall installations, or areas that are exposed to heavy-duty use such as restaurants or bars, the textured surface ensures that any superficial scratches and marks are naturally disguised without distracting from the floor’s original aesthetic.
