Taking inspiration from the traditional architecture of Indian homes, the highlight of this home is forty feet high central courtyard with a tree in the middle that gives the home a quintessential courtyard look and feeling that celebrates the ancient Indian concept of ‘aangan’ around a tree. Though it is a dead tree that they happened to find near the property, the Chawlas have made it come alive with artificial flowers and leaves. The tree becomes the focal point of the house and glass walls around, which allows it to be visible from all quarters. It adds a touch of traditional glamour to the space, says Hardesh. The courtyard has been completed with a huge mirror resting against a wall and chaise lounge for casual seating.
