heck your credit report. Credit score repair begins with your credit report. If you haven’t already, request a free copy of your credit report and check it for errors. Your credit report contains the data used to calculate your credit score and it may contain errors. In particular, check to make sure that there are no late payments incorrectly listed for any of your accounts and that the amounts owed for each of your open accounts is correct. If you find errors on any of your reports, dispute them with S.C.C.R
2.
Setup Payment Reminders. Making your credit payments on time is one of the biggest contributing factors to your credit scores.
Some banks offer payment reminders through their online banking portals that can send you an email or text message reminding you when a payment is due. You could also consider enrolling in automatic payments through your credit card and loan providers to have payments automatically debited from your bank account, but this only makes the minimum payment on your credit cards and does not help instill a sense of money management.
3. Reduce the Amount of Debt
you owe. This is easier said than done, but reducing the amount that you owe is going to be a far more satisfying achievement than improving your credit score. Use your credit report to make a list of all of your accounts and then go online or check recent statements to determine how much you owe on each account and what interest rate they are charging you. Come up with a payment plan that puts most of your available budget

for debt payments towards the highest interest cards first, while maintaining minimum payments on your other accounts.
More Tips on How to Fix a Credit Score & Maintain Good Credit
Contributing 35% to a FICO score calculation, this category has the greatest effect on improving your scores, but past problems like missed or late payments are not easily fixed. • Pay your bills on time. Delinquent payments, even if only a few days late, and collections can have a major negative impact on your FICO Scores. • If you have missed payments, get current and stay current. The longer you pay your bills on time after being late, the more your FICO Scores should increase. Older credit problems count for less, so poor credit
performance won’t haunt you forever. The impact of past credit problems on your FICO scores fades as time passes and as recent good payment patterns show up on your credit report. And good FICO scores weigh any credit problems against the positive information that says you’re managing your credit well. • Be aware that paying off a collection account will not remove it from your credit report. It will stay on your report for seven years. • If you are having trouble making ends meet, contact your creditors or see a legitimate credit counselor. This won’t rebuild your credit score immediately, but if you can begin to manage your credit and pay on time, your score should increase over time. And seeking assistance from a credit counseling service will not hurt your FICO Scores. Amounts Owed Tip, this category contributes 30% to

a FICO score’s calculation and can be easier to clean up than payment history, but that requires financial discipline and understanding the tips below. • Keep balances low on credit cards and other “revolving credit”. High outstanding debt can affect a credit score. • Pay off debt rather than moving it around. The most effective way to improve your credit scores in this area is by paying down your revolving (credit cards) debt. In fact, owing the same amount but having fewer open accounts may lower your scores. • Don’t close unused credit cards as a short-term strategy to raise your scores. • Don’t open a number of new credit cards that you don’t need, just to increase your available credit. This approach could backfire and actually lower your credit scores.
• If you have been managing credit for a short time, don’t open a lot of new accounts too rapidly. New accounts will lower your average account age, which will have a larger effect on your score if you don’t have a lot of other credit information. Also, rapid account buildup can look risky if you are a new credit user. • Do your rate shopping for a given loan within a focused period of time. FICO scores distinguish between a search for a single loan and a search for many new credit lines, in part by the length of time over which inquiries occur.
Credit is King Benefits of Good Credit
You can survive with bad credit, but it’s not always easy and definitely not cheap. Having a good credit score will help you save money and make your life much easier. If you’re looking for inspiration to improve your credit score or reasons that you should maintain your good credit, here are some great benefits to having a good credit score.
12 Credit Is King
Benefit 01
Low interest rates on credit cards and loans. The interest rate is one of the costs you pay for borrowing money and, often, the interest rate you get is directly tied to your credit score. If you have a good credit score, you’ll almost always qualify for the best interest rates and you’ll pay lower finance charges on credit card balances and loans. The less money you pay on interest, the more you have for everything else including repaying your balance.
Benefit 02
Better chance for credit card and loan approval. With a shaky credit history, you’ll probably avoid making new credit card or loan applications because you fear you’ll be turned down. Having an excellent credit score doesn’t guarantee approval because lenders still consider other factors like your income and debt, but it does give you a very good chance of being approved. When you decide to apply for a credit card or loan, you can do it with confidence.
Benefit 03
More negotiating power. A good credit score gives you leverage to negotiate a lower interest rate on your credit card or a new loan. If you need more bargaining power, you can refer to great offers you’ve received from other companies based on your credit score. However, if you have a low credit score, creditors typically won’t budge on loan terms and you may not have the freedom to shop around.
Benefit 04
Get approved for higher limits. Your borrowing capacity is based on your income and your credit score. One of the benefits of having a good credit score is that banks are willing to let you borrow more money because you’ve demonstrated that you pay back what you borrow on time. You can still get approved for some loans with a bad credit score, but the amount will be limited.
Credit Is King 13
Benefit 05
Easier approval for rental houses and apartments. More landlords are using credit scores to screen tenants. A bad credit score, especially if it’s caused by a previous eviction or outstanding rental balance, can severely damage your chances of getting into an apartment. A good credit score saves you the time and hassle of finding a landlord who’ll overlook damaged credit.
Benefit 06
Better car insurance rates. Add auto insurers to the list of companies that use a bad credit score against you. Insurance companies say that people with bad credit tend to file more claims and these people are penalized with a higher insurance premium. With a good credit score, you’ll pay less for insurance than similar applicants with lower credit scores.
Benefit 07
Get a cell phone on contract with no security deposit. Another drawback of having a bad credit score is that cell phone service providers may not give you a contract. Instead, you’ll have to choose one of those pay-as-you-go plans that have more expensive phones. People with good credit avoid paying a security deposit and can get hundred-dollar discounts on the latest phones by signing a contract.
Benefit 08
Avoid security deposits on utilities. These deposits are sometimes $100 to $200 and a huge inconvenience when you’re relocating. You may not be planning to move soon, but a natural disaster or other unforeseen circumstance could change your plans. A good credit score means you won’t have to pay a security deposit when you establish utility service in your name or to transfer service to another location.
14 Credit Is King
Benefit 09
Bragging rights. Because of all the benefits, a good credit score is something to feel good about, especially if you’ve had to work hard to take your credit score from bad to good. And if you’ve never had to experience a bad credit score, keep doing what it takes to keep your good score.

Bryan Mays, 26, Wal-Mart Manager in Ft. Lauderdale, FL His Credit Trajectory From 550 to 760 Back Story "Back in 2015 I was a pretty busy guy. I was an industrial technology and applied engineering major at Florida Atlantic University Being so busy I made a mistake, one that carried some big consequences when it came to my FICO score. I charged some Christmas presents on my credit card, but forgot to make payments totaling about $1,000 for four months straight. I didn’t realize how badly my credit was affected until I was trying to buy a car in 2016, and learned that my score had plummeted to 550. I was astonished and had to forgo the loan because it would have been too costly to repay and required a cosigner. Concerned that a low credit score would have even more severe repercussions in the future, I, along with my wife Keira, who at the same time learned that her FICO score was
unhealthy decided it was time to get our lives in order. But before we could seek help, we had to face the financial facts. That's when we realized that, between credit card debt, student, and auto loans, we owed a whopping $40,000. We had our work cut out for us. "We tapped into our competitive spirits by downloading the Credit Karma app, which allowed us to track and compare our scores." We finally made the call to Second Chance Credit Repair to create a budget that scaled back on non-necessities, such as eating out. We then used any money that we freed up to pay off our debt often contributing more than double the minimum payments each month. On a regular basis, Keira and I scheduled check-ins with S.C.C.R to run the numbers. It felt good to be accountable, and it increased our discipline by keeping our goals top of mind. It was helpful to see how our digits improved as we eliminated more debt, and motivated us to change our budgets whenever possible to make even more progress. As a way to reestablish a positive

It was a long journey, but finally in 2018 my FICO score reached 760. I was ecstatic! Keeping at it took a lot of discipline and hard work, but this process has allowed both Keira and me to get our finances back on track. These days we still have a small amount of debt left to cancel out, but it’s controlled. Our credit utilization ratio remains less than 25%. We’ve also found easy ways to maintain good habits, like setting up automatic bill pay, ensuring we're never too busy or distracted to settle an account by the due date. An added benefit of our progress is that, in 2018, we were in a financial position to start our own food delivery service. We even found investors willing to entrust their money to us, and qualified for a few small business loans to help us get it off the ground, something that might have never happened had we not called Second Chance Credit Repair to fix our credit as well as our lives!
20 S.C.C.R Testimonials The Attorney Walter Williams, 39, a Bankruptcy Attorney in Miami, Fla. His Credit Trajectory From 580 to 720 Back Story “There’s only one reason my credit score fell to 580 in 2014, I lived way beyond my means. Even though I’d worked as a waiter as an undergrad and as a law student in Miami, I prioritized enjoying the city’s nightlife over saving money and consistently found myself using credit cards to pay for necessities like gas and groceries. The result? I accumulated $35,000 of credit card debt in just seven years. As I was finishing up law school, I tried to refinance my home but was denied because of the results of my credit check. So with an eye toward bettering my 580 score and refinancing down the line, I spent the next couple of years trying to whittle down my balances. But I was quickly overwhelmed, the interest fees began to snowball, and eventually the minimum payments skyrocketed to an amount I couldn’t afford.
“Life is difficult, but the ability to pick yourself up after facing financial ruin is what’s important. That defines me.”
The next step was to work with a professional service. I got in contact with Elaine, the owner of Second Chance Credit Repair and i was on my way a speedy credit recovery We decided to wipe my slate clean by filing Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Unfortunately, that meant I had to surrender my property, but I was willing to do what I needed in order to get a fresh start. Surprisingly, I noticed an immediate credit score bump. Even with all of my balances zeroed out I knew I had a long way to go. So I set out to increase my score in three specific ways.
S.C.C.R Testimonials 21 First, my wife, Lisa, whose credit score is in the 800s, added me as an authorized user on her credit card. So her responsible behaviors, like making on-time payments, were reported to credit bureaus as my own. Then I used $5,000 from our savings to open a secured credit card, making sure to never charge more than I could pay off at the end of each month. That resulted in the credit issuer returning my $5,000 and allowing me to keep the card, unsecured, in just a year’s time.
automatic payments to prevent any slip-ups. I expect that my score will only continue to improve over time. The blessing in my credit problem is that it pointed me to my career as a bankruptcy attorney, which I began in 2013. My own experience helps me empathize with what clients are going through, I certainly haven’t forgotten those sleepless nights worrying about debt.
