ARTEIXO, Spain — It’s known as the king of fast fashion but Inditex is maintaining its fiercely disciplined approach to expansion as the retailer plots its future course in a fast-maturing market that is reaching saturation point. The group’s strategy, as it navigates a period of uncertainty rocked by volatile global currencies and market shifts, remains centered around the optimization of stores — with a focus on flagships in prime high street locations — and leveraging digital. VF Enters Wearables Fitness Market O The company is set to acquire
the Altra footwear brand, which uses technology to connect to mobile devices to improve workouts. BY VICKI M. YOUNG

VF Corp. is entering the wearables fitness market. The apparel and footwear giant has signed an agreement to acquire the Altra footwear brand from Icon Health & Fitness Inc. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. VF said the transaction is expected to be completed next month and that the “addition of the Altra brand to VF’s portfolio is expected to be immediately accretive to earnings per share.” The Altra brand, on a trailing 12-month basis, generates about $50 million in revenue. The Altra brand is also known as Altra Running, and is one of the top brands in the “run specialty” category, particularly for trail running. The Logan, Utah-based company was started in 2009 and is known for a unique construction where the heel and forefoot have the same distance from the ground, or what the CONTINUED ON PAGE 10
