65 SUPERB YEARS OF MARRIAGE

THREE’S COMPANY By GREGOR MACTAGGART and MICHELLE SLATER

LATROBE City yesterday recorded its third active COVID-19 case. The latest confirmed coronavirus case was among 363 across Victoria during the previous 24 hours. There are 11 active cases throughout Gippsland with three in Latrobe (all confirmed in the past seven days) and Baw Baw, two in Bass Coast and South Gippsland, and one in East Gippsland.

It comes as Premier Daniel Andrews did not rule out the idea of relaxing COVID-19 rules for regional Victorians if case numbers remained low. But his call did come with a warning – people have to play their part. “I haven’t ruled out the possibility of opening up further,” Mr Andrews said. “Regional Victoria should not think there is a set of Stage 3 rules coming in next week, or anything like that, while we keep these figures low. “The chief health officer has confidence

these strategies are working, but every single regional Victorian has to play their part in that and jealously guard it.” Mr Andrews announced yesterday people who live in metropolitan Melbourne and in the Mitchell Shire must wear a face mask or face covering if leaving their homes for the four allowed reasons – work, shopping, providing care or exercise – from 11.59pm on Wednesday. Residents who do not obey the rules could face a $200 fine. The rules have been toughened to

prevent Melburnians travelling to regional Victoria. Mr Andrews cited people enrolling their children in schools outside of the metro boundary to evade lockdown restrictions. “This is largely at the hands of people at both ends. Regional Victoria is in a very different position than metro Melbourne and this is a good thing for regional Victoria,” he said. Continued on page 4
