MAY 2018 May is a time for both hard-work and celebration. As we approach the end of the school year, we are very busy with schoolwork and testing, academic celebrations and our largest fundraiser of the year, our 7th Annual Crabby Blues Festival. As we wrap up a successful week of testing, I'm very proud to celebrate all of our students for their excellence and, in this newsletter, we recognize some students who have recently excelled in competitions. Please also read below as to how you can enjoy and assist with Crabby Blues - see you all tomorrow! Many thanks to you all for your constant support and participation, Holly Hubbard, Head of School

CURRICULUM SPOTLIGHT Balanced Literature in Carrie Cabello's K/1 Classroom

The K/1 program begins with phonological awareness activities. Carrie Cabello works on sounds, rhymes, parts of words, blending, and segmenting. From there, she adds a strong base of phonics instruction coupled with sight word exposure. A wide variety of books, passages, poetry, and nonfiction articles are used to reach every student. Games, puzzles, and other handson experiences help her students practice new skills in engaging and fun ways. PALOOZA

Tell us about your business? At Party Palooza we will run your birthday party with any theme you can imagine. We will provide decor, crafts, games, and activities for your party. Helpers called, "Party Pals" will help you at your party if needed. When did you start Party Palooza and how did you get the idea? We started Party Palooza last February. Our teacher, Mrs. Hubbard wanted the class to learn about running a business, selling a product and/or creating a service. Our first business was called, Cherry on Top and we sold clay figures but then we came up with a better idea and started Party Palooza. Tell us about Party Palooza parties you have planned? We planned an Olympic Party for 70 people. Guests were put on different teams representing different countries. We took pictures, organized the games, created a straw ski jumper craft and made candy awards. We planned a birthday party for a classmate with a Steelers Football Theme and we helped plan and organize The Elf Shop crafts during Festive Fridays in Cape Charles last December. How can we contact Party Palooza so you can help plan a party? You can send us an email, partypaloozacc@gmail.com. We always have our information on the School Cart and we will be available to answer any questions that you may have at Crabby Blues. We will be in the Arts and Craft Booth from 5:30pm - 8:00pm. We look forward to planning your next party.
