Poetry Night 2020
Original and published poetry performed by every single L-Dub student.
Live Streaming on LWGMS's YouTube Channel Thursday, December 17, 6p PST
WELCOME! A NOTE FROM THE HUMANITIES DEPARTMENT Welcome to our annual evening of poetry featuring both original poems from eighth graders and performances of published poems from the sixth and seventh grades. We are embracing the virtual format and turning everyone’s Zoom stage into a Festival of (twinkle) Lights...we're live streaming the whole thing! The Humanities Department is grateful for the joy of teaching our students and watching the heartfelt work of the poets and performers...together. Please Note: At Poetry Night, you will hear published poems from 6th and 7th grade students. Many of our 8th grade students will be presenting original works. We support, affirm, and applaud our students for writing original poetry that reflects their lived experiences. You’ll hear pieces from some grappling with mature themes such as assault and race, and some poets use strong language. As an institution, we do not censor the voices of our students. With this in mind, please consider the age of younger viewers attending Thursday's event – Act Two in particular. Again, we celebrate and honor the strong voices and courage of our L-Dub students, their words, and their poetry.
