Pete Finch Speech at the Soho House Screening For My Hustle I’m really happy everybody’s here. Some of you have seen it already, some of you know… maybe nothing about the film. I didn’t really know how I was going to get where I was going to go. A lot of the time I just knew that I wanted to go somewhere. I had a lot of great experiences and encounters with a lot of very influential, wise, iconic people and across my journey I’ve saw Christine at Jive records, Manny at Polo Grounds/J Records, and I met Esteban in an elevator at MTV and I met Jill, who was his boss on TRL, only last week, and look at how that works. And it was in my home town that I met her. And the things that happen in this movie, I can’t even really explain how a lot of them happened. And that’s a question I have a lot of the time is how, and I know a lot of you in this room have your own businesses, you own things that you’re passionate about. Music, media, fashion, acting, whatever it is. So I’m hoping that you can relate in some way because, I’m still going. And now that I’m talking to kids in college and teaching kids how to edit video and film, who are in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. I just see that there is more to this than what I thought was to it when I started this whole journey of mine. About 5 years ago, I was watching that movie Click, right where you’re sitting right now in here. And I always try and get some kind of theme and messages out of everything, right? Because we all need some support, right, so we kind of want to look to those messages that can help us keep on going and as a young man (I’m still young) but I was younger 5 years ago, I had less patience than I have now. And what I got from that movie was, to not fast forward through life and it’s still not easy. Every day we wake up, we want to have a little bit more, be a little bit more successful, be a little bit more accomplished, or reach our goals quicker. But, if I reached my goals, whatever those goals are, maybe I still haven’t reached them, but if I reached them as quick as I wanted to 5, 6, 7, 8 years ago, we wouldn’t all be here today to watch the story. So, I wanted to leave you with that, and the last thing I wanted to say was, none of us are probably farmers, maybe some of us are parents, maybe some of us own pets, and we can see everything grow. It’s easy to see a human being grow, a sister, a child, a brother, an animal but to see an idea grow, from being just an idea to something that I’ve been maybe “possessed with” for the last 8 years or really passionate about, like my show or this media thing I’m doing, just looking back, it’s kind of amazing just to see that some of the things that I thought about actually happened. Enjoy the show.
