BCNET Industry Partner Program
BCNET Industry Partner Program BCNET provides an opportunity for collaboration among leaders in academia, industry and government. As the network backbone of leading universities and research agencies, BCNET supports a community of over 140 higher education and research institution sites in British Columbia that are dedicated to developing and deploying advanced networks and shared technology services. Through its members, BCNET brings together visionaries who are using advanced networks today to accelerate the development of next-generation Internet technology for tomorrow. The province-wide, high-performance network deployed by BCNET reaches thousands of people at BCNET member institutions. High-performance networks connect BCNET to the national CANARIE network, which links to more than 80 research and education networks around the world, encompassing thousands of leading institutions in dozens of other countries. BCNET’s diverse community uses advanced networks for experimental research and education projects, and as a platform for offering cost-effective shared technology services to help members decrease costs, reduce technology duplication and improve efficiencies. The advanced network provides a platform for common services like cloud computing, shared data centres, VoIP, disaster recovery solutions and telepresence. BCNET provides a window into this unique community for collaboration, partnering and learning.

Connected BCNET’s network is the province’s first and only dedicated advanced network in British Columbia. Deploying optical transport technology, BCNET’s fibre optic network supports network speeds of 10 Gigabits per second, hundreds of times faster than a home Internet connection. BCNET’s dedicated bandwidth enables experimental and collaborative efforts in research and higher education—critical infrastructure that keeps British Columbia at the forefront of the international research stage. BCNET links provincial research and education members to the national and global advanced network, which enables world-class projects in the areas of education, health, the arts and science.
Collaboration Our aim is to build winning relationships. We seek partners who are interested in supporting the future of advanced networks, applications and shared technology services. As a partner, BCNET provides opportunities for engagement with key decision makers at higher education institutions. BCNET facilitates a multi-institutional forum to discuss technology ideas, challenges and solutions. This unique community cooperates and shares ideas, provides an economy of knowledge for its members, enables collaboration amongst members and relies on relationships built of trust and mutual respect.
