EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
GOALS OF THE AES DEPARTMENT & PROGRAM
This year the AES department for 2018|19 is opening up the registration process after the summer break when school officially resumes so that families can plan and arrange their child’s schedule after their regular timetable has been made available. This year, we are excited to be joining the CIF (see details below) at the High School level that will only enhance our Athletics program while making our Middle School programs all the more important. To make attending the earlier classes easier, we will now be commencing at 3:15 pm. This will give students an additional 7 minutes between the end of their 3:07 pm school class and activity. Classes will still run for a minimum of a full hour. REGISTRATIONS WILL OPEN THURSDAY, 30th AUGUST (This is when the school releases the schedule). A friendly reminder that all AES communication will be through your Secured Parent Portal Website accounts. Through this forum, you will find daily updated information regarding all of our tracts (Activities; Programs; Camps). We also highly encourage you to download and read the APC Parent Guidelines 2018|19 where you will find all policies, important documents and information regarding all the facets and operations of the department. The Guidelines also highlight the responsibilities of what is expected of our staff, parents and students. Please be sure to check and refer regularly to the calendar when the athletics trimester seasons begin and end. Participation in APC’s will provided students a significant opportunity to become involved with other students and their coaches in an educational experience that takes place outside of the classroom while respecting traditional French/American traditions and customs. As always, our door is always open. Please feel free to also provide us your feedback through the new suggestions box located at the front reception.
ENROLLMENT STARTS THURSDAY, AUGUST 30th ON ACTIVENET! WWW.LELYCEE.ORG/INSCRIPTIONS

QUILTING (6TH-12TH) | WEDNESDAY
“Surrounding someone with a warm quilt is so wonderful! Are you interested in learning how to quilt? We’ll work together to finish several small quilted projects using different techniques so you can learn which style is your favorite! All you need is (1) a willingness to join our quilt circle, (2) the ability to thread a needle, knot the thread, and hand sew a straight line, and (3) a few cotton fabrics that you like. All our projects will be made by hand, but if you want to sew a quilt faster, you can use the same techniques on your sewing machine at home. Returning and experienced students can work on bigger or more advance projects if they wish. Note: while the class runs from 3:15-5:15pm, students are welcome to come later or leave earlier, although having less time in class will mean less time to work on the projects at school.” Instructor: Wendy Brown
CREATIVE WRITING & BOOK CLUB (6TH-7TH) $338
After-School Authors is an after-school writing program from the creators of Adventures in Writing Camp. Our program is designed to help your child develop writing skills and confidence while creating their own short story. The curriculum also integrates self-expression to inspire your child to have a positive experience with writing. During each session, every student will write his or her very own short story, using unique editing tools and activities to help enhance their storytelling. Each of our sessions has a different theme and all keep a strong focus on the five elements that make up a short story: Character development (who is your main character?), conflict/plot (what is happening in your story?), scene (where is your story taking place?), sensory detail (are you using all five senses?), and Dialogue (who is saying what and why?). Our first session is on the “Introduction to the Short Story” and our second session focuses on “Fairy tales and Myths Revisited.” AfterSchool Authors gives your child the opportunity to develop their creativity and learn new writing techniques to help bring their writing to life! Fall 2018 - INTRODUCTION TO THE SHORT STORY In this session, classes will focus on the Five Elements of a Short Story: Character, Conflict/Plot, Scene, Sensory detail, and Dialogue. Activities are designed so students become familiar with each element and include them in their short stories. This session also emphasizes the transformative power of editing. Students graduate from the session with a clearer sense of how each element works together to bring a story to life and how to implement that element in their own work. They also learn writing techniques and tools that they can use in their future stories. Grades 1st through 3rd will focus heavily on story organization, while grades 4th through 7th will delve deeper into the power of figurative language. Instructor: After School Authors

GOLF MS(6th-8th) | Tuesday & HS (9th-12th) | Friday
The First Tee of San Francisco is a non-profit organization with the mission of teaching the next generation important life skills, core values and how to play the wonderful game of golf. Through our programs, individuals will learn everything from how to shake hands to how to budget when they’re in college. They will also gain a solid base of golf’s most important fundamentals, such as grip, stance and aim. As golfers progress through the program’s curriculum, the volume and focus of their practice time grows. We also assist in competitive tournament play and leagues outside of just high school matches. Although it is not our main goal, we strive to produce competitive high school golfers and we have seen success throughout San Francisco’s teams. All students will begin our programs at TPC Harding Park for an 8 week program. After the program concludes, we will have a detailed plan for their opportunities for progression. Please reach out to adam.ochart@tftsf.org if you have any questions. Instructor: First Tee Golf
