Hello! My name is Lamia Spohn and I’m a Pastry Chef Manager at Choux Bakery in San Francisco. I have taught at SFBA, EFBA, and the SF unified school district. Together, I will introduce you to new flavors, and an appreciation for each ingredient. I will introduce you to the basics and French cooking techniques as well as sharing a few secret recipes. For this class, healthy eating is teaching our kids about what is in their refrigerator and pantry at home. They will learn assembly basics and how to improvise things like pizza toasts or to create a simple egg dish (with an adult present when using stove or oven). They will learn about fresh herbs and develop their palates. Requirements for students: Each student will need to wear an apron and gloves. Respecting and following the rules of the Head Chef is non negotiable. Instructor: Lamia Spohn

Activities are designed to help develop both the inner and outer form of the artist. Exploring drawing and painting from life and the imagination, students will be encouraged to use their senses to understand the properties of color and form in the natural world. We will work with traditional methods of painting and drawing, including the preparation of the surface and the pigments. Students will learn to prepare their palate by creating pigments from natural, local resources. Learning artistic foraging, we’ll investigate how substances sourced from nature create colors with things such as the soil, spinach, or egg shells. Students will be introduced to traditional techniques of drawing and painting using these mediums to explore ways to create with various substances to varying effects. Students are encouraged to establish a foundation of art practice that is rooted in balance and beauty. Instructor: Melissa Parhm

John LaGatta has been studying martial arts from Japan for over 25 years, and holds the rank of 4th Dan in Aikido. The art is a vehicle to help children develop an awareness of their bodies, focus the mind, and find power and presence within themselves.
