Philadelphia as an important colonial city, where the first step of American independence was taking place, its settlements and building styles had embraced cultural diversities that was impacting by the wide variety of its immigrants from Europe, African, and Asia Pacific. It could be easily recognized while strolling in the city. For one second, we had the neoclassical style architecture at the last glimpse, next turn we just ran straight into the redbrick European housing settlements. Around the west side of the center city, they used a diagonal green axis points directly at the Museum of Art that had suddenly interrupted its original rigid and framed grid system in the city of Philadelphia. The site is surrounded by the central public library, the Barnes Foundation, and the Parkway. One salient feature of this location was the natural context, the design of this library is to bring the balance to the architecture and the surroundings. In order to create a comforting and relaxing reading environment by choosing the greenery and light elements into the project instead of heavy materials that might lead to a disconnection with the adjacent context. The idea is to bring nature into the project, which merging the outdoor and indoor and blurs the boundary. By introducing the courtyards and the roof gardens, blend the boundaries between building and the surrounding. Provide users a reading area that feels like nature.

The building styles are different on each side of the site. Instead of standout than other building, using the glazing and the aluminum sheets as main facade materials. The reflection blend the building into the environment also being respectful to the urban context. In order to solve the problem of the western face of the building, by placing aluminum fins at angle to provide shade and reduce the solar heat gain, at the same time, brings the light in and frames the view toward Parkway.

Instead of the horizontal stacking, using vertical way for stacking book as book walls. Books to me, could be seen as artifacts. Each book’s appearance is different from each other. To display like a showpiece other than look just as a item. A giant book wall goes through the whole building. It not only show the books but ties the spaces. It not only serves as bookcase but serves as main circulation goes through all floors. The book wall is the spine of the library. It represents the main axises of the urban context which holds the history and story of the city. Vertical stack and multi-use concept sketch

Graduate level 3 // Individual University of Florida, 2019 Architecture+ Urban Singapore Instructor: Lee-Su Huang Programs: Revit, Photoshop, Illustrator, Free-hand sketching Singapore is shaped by various cultural. Every culture is weaved together, help each other which generates and supports this city. From the urban development, the man-made infrastructures and nature environment blend well together, like the majority of buildings integrated nature elements, vegetation, and water, into architecture design. The city gives me the feeling of weaving all different kinds of elements, which is driven by the design, waving urban context and the green in to the building in order to create a relaxed and breathable environment. The program was inspired by doing laundry when traveled in Singapore. Notice that their laundromat are more like urban living room. People chat when they are waiting the laundry as well as the space are open to courtyard or park. Doing laundry is an essential thing in daily life but we spend a lot of time waiting for your clean clothes. A multi-use laundromat provides a combination of the 45-minute program. You can have a cup of coffee, have a great book time or a gossip time with your neighbors or friends. It is a great place for family, bring kids and
have fun at the playground or all around the building. You also can work out while doing your laundry. Everyone could find their own place while waiting for their laundry.

CLIMATE AND ENVIRONMENT STUDIES BETWEEN HOT AND COLD
Graduate level 1 // Individual University of Florida, 2018 Architecture+ Landscape Oslo, Norway + Phuket island, Thailand Instructors: Lisa Huang, Lee-Su Huang

Carefully reading the place where we build before determine what is the best way to do the intervention. Understanding the site context: landscape, vegetation, precipitation, temperature, and seasonal sun path, and how we respond to those factors The meditation cabins project was proposed two small structures occupy in two different extreme climates: hot and cold which within zone A “humid equatorial climate” and zones D-E “humid cold or cold polar climate”, which was based on the Köppen-Geiger climate classification system. Focusing on how to cooperate with natural surroundings and responded to the climate condition. One locates in a tropical climate in Phuket Island, Thailand, another one locates in the polar climate in Oslo, Nor-
way. With the differences of the latitudes, contexts, climate, local materials, and vernacular building techniques, but those two sites have one thing in common the "precipitation". Although it shows in different forms but is "water" in general, heavy snow in the winter in Oslo, torrential rain in the summer in Phuket Island. Both sites are integrated with water as the main element for the meditation process. For instance, to see how snow accumulates and rain washes, to hear the sound of snowing or melting, to hear the sound of raining on different materials, observing the different phases of water, static or dynamic. Make your mind calm and peaceful, just focus on those subtle feelings.
L I – T Z U C H E N ' S P O RT FO L I O | 2 0 2 0
The project is adjacent to Lake Sognsvann where is on the outskirt of Oslo. The site is surrounded by the pine forest and has a great view of the lake. With the good condition of natural noise-barrier, it is an ideal site for doing meditation. Meditation is a process to focus on yourself and clear your thought. Focusing on all subtle uniform and repetitive sounds or movements, such as the rainfall or water dripping. Opening up the senses, sense of vision, hearing, feeling. Thus, by setting views, arranging spatial experience in order to shape the atmosphere. Following the idea of "water collection" as the meditation process. The shape of the structure was using the idea of two hands holding an either liquid or solid things, collecting snow and allow it to accumulate.

Watching snow accumulating while snowing, staring into the whiteness of the world while it stops, listening to the sound of water dripping while it melts, listen to the crackling sound from the fireplace when it is dark. The heavy and massive materials respond to the weather condition as well as bearing the weight of snow. In order to reduce the loss of heat also reduce the impact of the intervention, the design followed the vernacular building methods, the cabin was designed lower position closes to the earth. The folding shape of the roof follows the topography and blends the building into the landscape, especially with snow accumulation. It would be like disappearing in the snow.

MEDITATION CABINS : HOT CLIMATE
The Rain meditation cabin is located on Phuket Island, sitting on the rocky cliff facing a small bay of Andaman Sea. With the tropical climate, the weather is hot and humid with a great amount of precipitation, especially in summer — the rain season. Thinking of how would the rain flows and be collected.

The prototype of the structure was referred to as the vernacular building method: open, light, and high roof structure for the ventilation but blended the idea of water collection into it. The raining scene is a combination of visual and audio experiences. A steep roof allows to drain the water but also served as a collector. With aluminum louvers on the steep roof, the texture would create a waterfall-like effect when rain falls down.

PALM POINT PARK ROWING BOAT CLUB
Graduate core program // Individual University of Florida, 2018 Architecture+ Landscape Gainesville, U.S Instructors: Bradley Walters + Mark McGlothlin Programs: Sketchup, Photoshop, Illustrator, Free-hand sketching Palm point park, a small peninsula beside the Newnans Lake. It is surrounding by abundant natural resources, for instance, birds, cypress forests, and water bodies. Based on the historical background of the site, where has found the Indian tribe dugout canoes, canoes could be regarded as the tool which connects human and water. From mapping analysis, it emphasizes the strong axis across the site, which is the orientation of the Palm point park, also the density of the woods. However, the spacial experience of visiting the site was different from just looking from the aerial map. For example, the path and view under the canopy, the density of trees, and the view of the lake. The topic of the project was focusing on a program of rowing. The site context pushed me rethinking about the relationship beyond humans, water, and land, the relationship between architectural intervention and the natural environment as well.
| 29
Series of space reflects the experience of walking in woods of palm point park: high ceiling lobby shows the openness while entered the park; the transition space represents traveling through the woods; elevated clubhouse and training room shows the view at the edge of the point; mass boat storage symbolizes mass of the Lake. Integrated the site context into architectural design, brings nature back into the building also blurs the boundary of the building.

Two solid walls hold the building marking out the main axis of the site, guide people to enter the building, also divided space into a public area and private area. Part of the building was elevated by V-shape supporting structures which are inspired by sketching the moment of rowers raising the boat. It also was functionally designed to prevent the flood and structurally reduce groundtouched columns give the lightness and contrast to the heavy anchored walls. Creating the multi-elevations and giving a sense of flowing movement through space. Moreover, it provides the clubhouse and training room a great lake view. The idea of the roof of the boat storage space is referenced from the track of paddles moving back and forth. The wavy shape of the roof shows both dynamic of the rowing also implies the shape of the tree canopy. It contrasts with the flat and quiet roof of the remaining space, which implies the quiet horizon of the lake.

Graduate level 1 // Individual: Phase 1 & 2 Phase 3 - 1:1 assembly as a group work with Frances Membreno. University of Florida, 2018 Architecture+ Material studies Gainesville, U.S Instructors: Lisa Huang, Lee-Su Huang
The idea of light condition drawing was based on the experience of light comes through curtain ruffles. Soft and uniform light comes into interior space, but reflects exterior context, shadow and bright reflection project on the fabric. Sometimes light penetrate through the gap between curtain directly, having sharp and high contrast brightness and shadow on the wall or floor. Moreover, curtain ruffles create different depth not only provide shadow itself but also could see the fuzzy shadow of objects behind. Depends on the distance of object locates, closer makes the image more clear, vice versa, further makes it ambiguous. Based on the same idea of light condition, using simple fold as a module but shape the reflection and shadow to be organic shape. Without using soft material as fabric, but tried to use rigid material but provide the same kind of light condition. Focusing on how simple paper-folding geometry and material affect the light condition also create different depth by folding the sheet. Moreover, testing different finishing, for instance, steel, copper and frosted on plastic surfaces, keep one side matte and another side shining, and see how it affects light, shadow, and reflection condition. Light quality collage.
36 |
Continuing the concept and light quality of phase 1, but also focuses on the hierarchy of structures of the building facade. Metal structure was used as main building supports, which the beams, columns, and secondary fin structures. It gives the thinness and lightness feeling of the structure. The folding perforated metal panels were designed as the outer facade, give the similar blurry and vague condition as frosted plexi-glass. The outer panels not only diffused light but also the structures provide sharp and dark shadow, which gives the contrast and diversity of light. The catwalk between the glazing gives different spatial experience and different opacity of the panels while people go through.
L I – T Z U C H E N ' S P O RT FO L I O | 2 0 2 0
Continuously, blurry or ambiguous condition applied on both past projects. The panels on one of the main facades were covered by a frosted film to achieve the condition mentioned above, while the other main element was two different types of fabric which created different opacities in relation to the panels. The main structure of the project consists a heavy material– wood, while the secondary structures are based on light material – aluminum, supporting semitransparent panels and fabric. The detail we represented on the project was the joinery, having different types of joints to hold the main structure between notched elements and bolts. The most difficult joint in the structure was the connection between the wooden elements and the panels, which were made by hand, calculating the different rotations of each panel. The joints of the panels were carefully measured and aligned, mainly because of the concept of creating a frosted , meaning the connection needed to have the least impact on the panels, in this way creating different depths to it.

URBAN REGENERATION: FROM RAILROAD TO GREEN NETWORK
What would the urban pattern be after the railway become elevated?
Landscape Architecture + Urban Development Nei-Li,Taoyuan City, Taiwan Instructors: Hsiu-Chuan Wang Programs: Sketchup, Photoshop, Illustrator, Free-hand sketching, Physical modeling
Taoyuan County
Taoyuan City Jongli City The western south-north railway urban plan between Taoyaun and Nali Pingchen City,Chungli amendment Plan
Railways in Taiwan segment the urban pattern, separating the city into “front and back sides based on which direction of the station is facing. That situation hinders the urban development. Nowadays, the railway in Nei-Li region is progressing a urban plan to elevate the railway in order to ease the gap of urban development. Ground barriers are eliminated, release plenty of urban open space. Recent years, the space under the elevated railway in Taiwan, is either taken as the parking lot or the land for roads. This could make no contribution to urban passersby network or urban landscape. Based on this issue, through this project, we expect that we could make use of the opportunity of elevated railway engineering to release the space by integrating the elevated railway and conducting the precious surrounding resources and routes for providing the busy Taoyuan metropolis a recreational green space.

With high housing prices and high population density in Taipei city, people tend to divide the space into as many rooms as possible to fit more family members, maximizing the value of the space. This apartment wasn't an exception. We open up and remove all the partition walls, redefining the space by using transparent and reflective material to enlarge the space but also bring back the beautiful daylight and greenery to complete this high-end modern apartment project. The apartment has two beautiful balconies and natural light. However, the origin layout splits the space into 3 bedrooms/ 2 bathrooms, including a living room, dining room, and kitchen. It completely hid the values and giving the whole apartment a narrow and dark feeling. We redefined the way of living, creating an open and spacious space with minimum partition walls.
The partition walls are made by Polyvision Smart Privacy Glass, which is an opaque film laminated between the glass that can be switch instantly from opaque into a clear. It provides more possibilities and transparency into space. The two restrooms and the master bedroom, for example, use smart glasses as partition walls, you can switch into an opaque mode when you need it, otherwise, it would remain open and transpar-
ent. The kitchen, dining room, living room, study area we think as one living space with open circulation. The linear pattern of the gray travertine flooring laid across the living space. It pulls the visual axis and enlarges the space. We added a touch of detail to the space by collocating designer furniture and lightings - B&B Italia, Flos, Iguzzini, Delta Light. Details can enhance the atmosphere and show the characteristic of the space.

In this project, our clients asked an unconventional modern home style and wanted to integrate the smart-home system to control all the lightings, changing light colors, control HVAC, curtain, security, garden irrigation system, which is widely used in hotel design but not homes. It was a big challenge for integrating the electrical system with the smart home system.

Professional experience // Major Project Leader (bidding phase) Tai+ Associates, 2016 – 2017 Interior Design+ Hospitality Taipei City, Taiwan Principal: Tai Chen Photographs: Ji- Shou Wang Area: 700 M2 ( 7400 ft2) Construction cost: $1.1 million.
Taipei 101 is the most iconic landmark in Taiwan. The observatory gives the first impression for visitors and tourists. The design concept comprehends and shows the Taiwan features- Mountain, Ocean, and culture. The ticket desk was made by jade-green marble implies the iconic central mountain range in Taiwan. The original circulation had caused visitors' confusion finding the ticket desk and queuing area. On the ceiling, light guide plates (LGP) are arranged in the shape of Taiwan and streamlines indicate the ocean that embracing the island, continuously guiding visitors to the elevators to the observatory. To avoid visual chaos from disorder banners and posters, using the LED screen to replace them, which is easier for updating information. The multimedia exhibition area, surrounded by the curved LED screen wall, not only provides the impressive image of Taiwan to welcome the visitors but could be a flexible-use place for exhibitions or other activities. We want to achieve a welcoming and hospitable environment
