DSG Hi guys, welcome to Vents! How have you been? It’s good to be here. We have been good, a bit busy, but that’s a good thing. So how did you guys come up with the idea of making music out of pure noise? It just happens. We don’t sit down and say to ourselves, we need to write a song a certain way, we just write what sounds good to us. It’s how we write, and what makes sense to us.

Hexes, was not the title for the album until the last few weeks, of recording. We had another title picked out for a long time before all the songs were completed. Once the music was com plete our drummer/recording engineer/producer, Keith, picked out, Hexes, from the lyrics, which we all agreed fit the overall sentiment of the album.

Can you tell us more about the story behind your latest track, Young and Brainless? Well, the song is about not feeling like you belong and being critical of people for making bad choices but then making the same exact choices, and trying to get over on yourself.

How was the transition from a two song Stone Temple Pilots cover cassette to this record? It was seamless really. We have three other self-produced EP’s already under our belt, so a full length version was the next natural step for us. We had 12 songs that we had been working on for some time, and rather than space them out with more EP’s, we wanted to get them recorded, released, and move on to writing new songs.

The single comes off your new EP Hexes. What´s the story behind the title?

How was the recording and writing process? It was great. The bulk of the songs on the album had been done

GNS as far as arrangements go, except for a few. So, we just entered our drummer’s studio, pressed the record and played the songs. Where did you find the inspiration for the song and lyrics? The music draws on multiple areas for inspiration, some knowingly intentional, others are subliminal. One of us brings an idea to the table, and together we make it ours. As for the lyrics, most of it comes from the frustrating moments in life. It’s a positive way of dealing with them. Society and human interaction also have a large inspiration on the lyrics. In all this madness I can hear some Dillinger Escape Plan. Do they play a role in your music? e defi itely get that com ariso a lot e are all fa s of he Dillinger Escape Plan, but we don’t try and write songs like any o e a d, i articular e draw i ue ces from a vast array of bands, within and outside of our genre.

Do you have any plans to hit the road There are plans to hit the road in the not so distant future. othi g is solidified yet What else is happening next in DSGNS´ world? We have a 7” split EP with Venomspitter from Virginia, coming out soon on Cointoss Records. We have a few shows lined up: October 12 with Call to the Void, and Bleak, October 16 we are playing the annual Beat the Hell Out of Breast Cancer Festival in Bryan,TX with a bunch of great bands and The Texas Revolution Festival, October 24 in Austin TX with Norma Jean, He is Legend, Madball, The Ongoing Concept, Shai Hulud, ’68, Sleepwave, and the Dillinger Escape Plan. It should be a hell of a show!
